Talk about the draft here... or just go off topic, I know it's bound to happen with Paul involved now.

So just watched that John Carter movie... The advertising for the film was bad. Film itself was alright.

Well here we are back again with yet another GML Draft. The first pick has been known for the past year regardless of which team had the pick so it'll be an easy one to grade. To make things a little more exciting for me other than my bottle of Glenlivet, I have also digger deep into my treasure trove of records to bring to you a soundtrack to Peter Kiper's draft!
Without further ado, let's get this started with the Colts and a drink!
First Overall: Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford - Indianapolis Colts
So the Colts went on the clock as soon as the season ended, and here we are the day of the draft to find out exactly who they would take first overall. I'm not saying it was obvious or anything, or that the sky is blue or you can't live if you don't breath but only my brother Randy could possibly think anyone but Andrew Luck goes here to the Colt.
He's got intelligence, it doesn't hurt that everyone has said he is heads and shoulders above any other quarterback prospect to come out since the man he is replacing and the man that might be making a move on the man he is replacing.
Whether those lofty goals are met, well that remains to be seen. For now Indianapolis fans will be happy because he'll be able to win more than Curtis Painter. This is the only move the Colts could have made and really if they veered off this course it would be an automatic fail. They needed a franchise quarterback and to say they got him is both understated and obviously redundant.

Actually I just wanted to look up some stats so that I had something to say. Didn't want to look like a moron after GIK's writeup. Though from here on out you'll probably get a Belichick-like post. -
Well that was obvious, but it looks like we're in for more of the same. Me with another double and this "shock" look on my face I used for the first pick.
Second Overall: Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor - San Diego Chargers
This is never a great place to be in the great quarterback prospect debate because you can always end up being the next Ryan Leaf, no matter how hard you try to run away from it the parallels are always going to be there. Now what makes the case even worse against the Chargers is that they had a very good, Pro Bowl quarterback and they shipped him off and paid quite the price to get to this spot to make a lateral move and bring in a dynamic pivot.
Not to take away from RG3 who is the best athlete at this position, he's a track star and not just a raw quarterback prospect like Vick coming out of college. He can make the throws you want in the pros and great accuracy. He won't turn out like a certain Raider bust but the Chargers put themselves here. Griffin is a great prospect, an A level prospect, but the moves surrounding it, well I can't grade that too highly. So we'll level it out just under an A.
Also you know Phillip Rivers couldn't have been too happy with being shipped out because he wasn't the problem with the Chargers, but what can we say about someone who's got eyes for another but my brother, sorry brotha' Bizzie Markie said it best… you got what I need, but you say he just a friend...

Well this pick is a surprise, because I know for once they need someone to helm the offense but instead opted for the best wide receiver on the board but the way they got fleece for this pick makes it the wrong move.
Third Overall: Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State - San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers have a hole at quarterback after Alex Smith signed a contract with the New York Jets, but it seems Harbaugh and company are comfortable with giving the ball to Colin Kaepernick seeing as he's the only quarterback listed on the roster right now.
The 49ers pretty much gave up their entire draft for Justin Blackmon. Don't get me wrong he's the number one receiver in this class, a two-time Biletnikoff Award winner but the bounty they gave up is what we would value a franchise signal caller not someone who only gets the ball when the quarterback is able to get it to him.
I'm fully expecting more of the same from last year where we saw the Niners move the ball on the ground, and have their quarterback manage the game more than naught. However Blackmon is a team guy and ultra competitive and will help in the locker room and maybe open up some opportunities for Crabtree on the opposite side. Value wise, I'm not feeling it for the amount of picks knowing how deep the Wide receiving class is. However Harbaugh is probably going to argue this one with me because the 49ers will have an actual receiving crop reminiscent of the days you had John Taylor and Jerry Rice, and I'm sure the coach likes the old school flavour.

Titans would like to take this moment to offer probowl and superbowl quarterback Matt "we want the ball and we're gonna win" Hasselbeck to any team looking to solidify their quarterback position. This would include the San Francisco 49ers. His salary is a meager $5.5m. We... ehem.... Bud and I feel Jake Locker needs more reps, is ready to start, and can flourish this season given the offensive line we've put together. And realistically, all he has to do is hand it off to Chris Johnson... right Chris? Also, Matt's sister in law Elizabeth is offering free handjobs to the lucky GM. She's kinda cute as long as she doesn't speak.

I think it's a good pick. Blackmon is a stud. Has a lot of Andre Johnson in him IMO.

And by the way, before anyone can complain tomorrow about me taking too long to make my pick, I live in California so I'm not going to be up most likely when I get on the clock. I'm setting my alarm for 8 though so I can wake up to make my pick (or look at potential trades) so no one gets their panties in too much of a bunch. Don't expect a pick before 11am EST though.
EDIT: Also, I'm thinking the guy I want is going to be picked at 4 so if anyone is interested in moving up to 5 to secure, what I'd expect will be the best player available at a very important position, PM me offers. I'm not accepting anything less than what the value chart says though. -

All very good players so far.

I'll tell you right now, some people can't even be happy with what they've got. Sure they couldn't procure the first overall pick early in the offseason, dumped a couple of young guys that looked like they were going to be studs and replace them at their position with solid, safe players but I guess they prefer to have a solid player at corner and not a playmaker.
Fourth Overall: Morris Claiborne, CB, LSU - Denver Broncos
Last year the Broncos defence had a resurgence of dominance, but during his offseason they let go of a couple of young playmakers, notably Von Miller and Chris Harris. However they did address those positions and made them solid again, just not spectacular with their replacements. They added Eric Wright to start opposite Champ Bailey, as I said before Wright is one of the lower ranked corners so for the time being he makes a good stop gap solution.
It only made sense that the Broncos select the best corner back in the draft, even if he's no Patrick Peterson. He'll be good in man and zone. He can be pretty physical and can maintain contact with receivers his covering.
Champ is eventually going to have to retire, and Claiborne should be able to grow into the role of number one corner. Landing a top prospect like this you would think the Broncos would be happy, but from what has gone around, they were trying desperately to get out of this spot. I could think of worst things, I really don't know how he was torn here.

I'm surprised there isn't more interest in my pick with probably the 2nd best player in the draft still sitting there. I think unless I'm offered a really good trade though I'm going to stay at 5 and make my pick.
-
Well then, I'm fine staying put. I'll give it just a little longer to see if I get a bite then I'll make my pick.
-
Well Alen, you're about to be 5/5...
