How do you guys see this season playing out for you?

I think we will have a top 5 pick if that defence playes like it did in the preseason. But like any other Dolphins fan I hope we can shut the national media up (espn, nfl network) and win the Super Bowl!

I really used to be a "glass half full" guy. When you're used to watching Shula teams since 71, you kind of have some justification for that. I'm keeping an open mind, but I've got that same sort of feeling I had about Saban's Culpepper led team and the Cam Cameron Dolphins. I had the same bad feeling with Sparano's team prior to Pennington falling into our laps.
On the plus side, I think Tannehill looks like a poised QB who could develop into an elite passer. He's very smart, confident but doesn't come across as a jerk, appears to make good decisions. He's pretty accurate, has an NFL caliber arm and pretty decent anticipation for a rookie. Aside from the strong arm, I never saw these qualities with Henne.
I *think* I see what Philbin is doing. My take is that he's trying to create a culture where players have to pay attention to detail as a matter of habit. He's trying to instill the fear of uncertainty in his players by keeping a relatively even (and thus, unreadable) demeanor, chastising them for saying F@#K, not tying their shoes, and creating the impression that he is obsessed with detail by noting such things and picking pieces of paper off the practice field. Turning this team into something like that, in my opinion, is going to take a while, if he can pull it off at all. There will likely be locker room disatisfaction as the team is molded to this vision I *think* Philbin is going for. If he can pull it off early, we could be a plus .500 team. If not, I suspect we could be looking at 4-12 or worse. -

I see 6-10 season or 5-11. Just basing that on the talent I don't see on the roster at DB, OL, WR, TE and passrush outside of Wake. I hope I am wrong. I think Philbin and Tannehill will be a good match though, and getting a good QB solves a lot of other problems.

Very low expectations. Where are the explosive plays going to come from on offense and defense? But this season is honestly not about wins and losses... it's about Tannehill. And hopefully going into next season feeling very confident about him with plenty of picks and salary cap space to build this team the right way.

I'd say no worse than 4-12 and no better than 7-9.
I'll be happy so long as Tannehill stays healthy and some of the key pieces like Jake Long and Randy Starks are re-signed (whether that's with a franchise tag on Jake Long or not is fine. I just want both back in 2013).
I'm interested to see how Kevin Coyle's defense does. After watching this team this preseason, and hopefully it was just very vanilla schemes, I think he may be in over his head. I think the current personnel in the front 7 are better suited to a 3-4 defense or to the 3-4/4-3 Under mixture from last year. Coyle's scheme, again, in this preseason, didn't incorporate as many Under and Over fronts as I would've expected to see.
But, mainly, I think this year is finding out of Tannehill is the real deal and if some of our recent draft picks - Jared Odrick, Koa Misi, Daniel Thomas, Nolan Carroll, Reshad Jones, and Chris Clemons can step up and assume the roles they're slated to be in; most of them starting. Their success holds a key to Miami's overall success, along with Tannehill.Bpk likes this. -

No better than 6-10, more likely 4-12.

I'll be pretty surprised if this team goes any better than 5-11. If it somehow went 8-8, I'd be shocked beyond belief. Nearly everyone considers Tannehill our next Franchise QB, such as Griese or Marino were. I'm not as totally sold on him as the majority are, but try to remain cautiously optimistic. It's been hard to get a good read on him when other than Bess we have the worst collection of WRs in the league. Of the rookie QBs selected in the first 4 rounds, the only ones who were worse in preseason were Weeden and Osweiler. Luck, RG3, Foles, Cousins, Wilson, all did better than Tannehill IMO.

I predict a high draft position in next years draft. With the number of picks we have that might be good.

Omar's post but a worth reading quote from Philbin.
Here's a couple things I found troubling about the Dolphins 2012 preseason....
Opposing quarterbacks had a 92.2 QB rating.
Miami's quarterbacks had a 59.5 cumulative QB rating.
There is no chance a team that win games with that type of disparity, and that's an offensive and defensive problem.
“We’ve got to disrupt the passing game better, whether it be re-routing receivers, whether it be putting more pressure on the quarterback,” coach Joe Philbin said. “The quarterbacks are operating at too high of an efficiency against us and we’re not operating at high enough. “ -

If they win 6 games I'll be SHOCKED. Like most say, this season is really about getting Tannehill the NFL experience and seeing what he's got. With that said, that may be impossible seeing what he has to throw to. I'm looking forward to seeing what Lamar Miller has to offer. Potential for some good WR's in the draft next year. Miami should be picking Top 6 if they are as bad as we all think they are going to be. If Ireland doesn't trade any picks AND survives the season, Miami has a good amount of picks in the draft. Of course the big question as always: can Ireland and Co. turn those picks into anything. It's pretty much like groundhog day: They'll be bad. Is our QB and good? Top 10 pick in the Draft. Joy.

Worse at WR and Secondary, but probably better run game this year...only thing is defenses know this. Last year still had the Marshall threat. If the Jets are as inept as they were in the pre-season and end of last season, they might keep us in 3rd. I expect last or 3rd. 5 or 6 maybe 7 wins. We play a bunch of unknowns - Jaguars, Colts, Seahawks, Raiders, Jets, Bills, Cardinals, and possibly the Titans with them starting a new QB. Worst division in the NFC (west) and worst division in the AFC (south) based on last year.
The AFC in general isn't that great...which almost makes it worse. Having a decent team across the board makes you playoff material. Sadly, having a good run game and good run defense isn't where you want to be in the most pass heavy time in NFL history.
The last time I had such low expectations was 2008...expected like 5 or 6 wins. That turned out to be a nice surprise. -
2-14 or 3-13. And yes I'm being serious. This roster looks like a train wreck. I see a small handful of teams we can actually beat on the schedule.
It would take a miracle like 2009 for us to be in contention.
Basically... another year of piss and moan, and we can look forward to Ireland getting canned, until they hire an ever worse GM. Go Dolphins. -
Pain.

Rams
Cardinals
Jets
Jets
Jaguars
Colts
Those are teams who I could see us being the favorite against. Not saying we'd win all those games, but I doubt we'll lose every game we aren't favored in either. We always seem to split with the Bills (for example), and Titans, Seahawks, and Bengals have holes on their teams too (and all 3 will be starting young QBs too), so they can be beat on any given Sunday.
We have about the easiest schedule you could hope for in the NFL, and subsequently I can't see worse than 4 wins even as an absolute worst case scenario.
I'm guessing 7-9 personally. But I like being optimistic before the season, rather than dreading a season I waited 7 months for. -
A) not use expletives when speaking to the boss.
B) to tie your shoes.
C) not be a slob and leave garbage on the floor.
As for the season, we aren't going to win many games but not because the players are going to have an untied shoelace revolt. Merely because the team doesn't have enough talent to win a lot of games yet.Bpk likes this. -
G'damn me I love em But i'll stick with my 3 wins. I don't get my expectations up for the Phins any more, I'll save that for the Heat's RepHEAT. -
I'm a huge fan and I hope I'm wrong. I'm honestly think 5-6 wins is about it. 8-8 if we get some breaks.

Predictions:
*Brian Hartline will trip over his own feet a lot
*Bob Griese will call Rishard Matthews, Ryan Matthews, a lot
*Lauren Tannehill will be shown on TV more times a game than TD's will be scored
*Karlos Dansby will say something to the media that he shouldn't
*Sean Smith will tweet something unsettling after a loss that will piss you(the fan) off
*You won't hear Olivier Vernon's name often
*They will re-sign Ryan Baker by the end of the season
*They will work out Jake Scott again and again not sign him
*There will be at-least 40 transactions involving the bottom of the roster
*They will be losing and the TV will show some players laughing or smiling on the sideline, thus pissing you(the fan) offmiamiron, MAFishFan, MrClean and 1 other person like this. -
We will suck.

2-14 or 3-13

We will be a lot better than people think. I still believe that.

I think we will Fail Forward Fast, while up in Balmer, CamCam will be silently smiling to himself.
