All of those players had the ability to flip a switch and elevate their games in the face of adversity. That's exactly what this team is lacking.

 

This season was a good reminder to all of us. As fans we always fall into the trap of assuming both bad and good play will continue on into perpetuity. There are 31 other teams trying to win and the things change constantly. Tua was not good enough down the stretch, and the Dolphins were just not a great team at the end of the season. It was clear the last few games that they just couldn’t hang with the better teams.

I’m back to being Tua neutral. I’m not going to trash or discuss him all season long, just going to wait patiently to see what he can do next year.

I still think Miami has the right head coach and hope he will take on a more authoritative role with the players and put a stop to some of the horse**** that helped to derail this season down the stretch.

 

I don’t think anybody needs to really apologize a lot of us come to this form for the same reason that we want the Miami Dolphins to be the best football team there is we’re very passionate fans, and some of us are very critical because we’ve been waiting so long for the team to become something.

I never really take anything to Hart. The people say they don’t know me they don’t know my passion for the team and I can be quite critical of the team, but I never really direct that towards individuals because I know that they have the same wants for the team as me we just seem to go about expressing our feelings in different way.

at the end of the day we are just like this team either went together or we lose together and being that this is a form and it’s only function is to have conversations I think it’s fair to have both sides of the story personal attacks are silly, but having discussions I think our fair game

A good forum has healthy debate between differing points of view. The problem with some on this site is they want to label anyone who says something bad about the team as a troll. That same group of people(not you) were complete a**es to people who didn’t buy into the hype and saw the major flaws with this team.

 

And they can flip the switch and elevate their games because they have the physical ability to do so. They have the physical gifts to put their team on their backs. To make plays when the designed play breaks down. Tua doesn't have any of that.

Tua is mentally strong. You don't get multiple concussions, almost got knocked out the league, play with the chance you are doing serious physical damage to yourself, and then make it through the whole year in the face of all that if you aren't mentally tough. Mental toughness isn't Tua's problem. His problem is he's lacks physical abilities that top QBs have. There's no teaching or mental coaching you can do to solve this. Tua is what he is and always has been.

 

Tua was missing a bunch of passes yesterday that he regularly makes, and some were fairly easy ones. That's the effect of stress on a person who isn't mentally tough enough to withstand it. I agree he's mentally tough enough to continue playing through injuries, but his performance tanks under highly stressful situations that don't involve injury. That type of mental toughness he doesn't have (yet).

 

Nobody should attack anyone's character when you express your disappointment and frustration. I was so excited when we drafted Tua and over four years something's are clear, he does not show up in big games, he is a game manager not a playmaker.
Unfortunately, this kind of debate has torn fans apart, causing personal attack.
I don't doubt Tua's character, however I doubt his ability to lead us to a Championship. The same people who are defending Tua are the same who defended Tannahill.
I have been a fan since 1970, and it's been 51 years with no championship, this is a very long time of believing year after year with the same talk coming out of training camp every year that this is the year.
McDaniels needs to stop trying to be best friends with everyone on the team as it shows the team lacks discipline, communication and execution and if I was Hill I would demand a trade as he is wasting his career here. I love my fellow Dolfans, but I'm not getting any younger we need real commitment to real change because the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results

 

Two different groups of posters. I was out on Tannehill by 2014. The stats didn't look right. I'm pro Tua because the stats still look right. He's got one more year to show he can win in the playoffs. If he can't we need to start looking elsewhere.

 

the only problem with this is we lose any value waiting. McDaniel knows in his heart if he’s the guy whatever he says publicly is a different story.

IF McDaniel believes he is the best QB for his system than he has to sign him. If he’s not he needs to get some value instead of letting him walk for nothing.

I think this team needs some major changes and one of the two wideouts Hill or Waddle may be gone.

We need to address the Online for once and all, we need a premier TE, we need corners and safeties, we need 2 DE’s and we need a true MLB

We need a few special teams players, and possibly a new coach..

Lots of things needed done we’re tight on money and have big contracts coming due. We may have to lose a few of these players IMHO.

McDaniel needs to retool the offense scheme to more of a dink and dunk with a heavy running game. Take 5-10 deeper shots a game. TUA is very accurate so use that. It will also give him a shorter timeframe to look at options 2-3 instead of standing back waiting for 1 to open.

I’m against signing TUA for top money, but if he’s the best option we should ride him next year again but adjust instead of trying to prove TUAs a stud. Reduce his role to a game manager not trying to make him the MVP.

 

The alternative view is we really aren't that far away from playoff success. Imagine we don't have that epic collapse against Tennessee. Just that one game and we probably have the 2nd seed and are favored to win one playoff game. Personally, if I were McD, I would take that view instead of thinking we need wholesale changes. If McD incrementally improves play calling, learns to come more prepared with a plan B in case the defense adapts in-game, and even changes the culture a little more towards a down-to-business approach instead of having fun, that might be all this team needs.

That's why I would give it one more year to get more data instead of thinking we need to make these huge decisions right now, i.e., I'd focus on lots of minor improvements for 2024 and only say we need major retooling if that doesn't work.

 

I guess I should have said all those who defended Tannehill now defend Tua, that might be more accurate and no I have no data to back the claim but I have seen the same get played out on this board when Tannehill was here. Appreciate your comment, my friend.

 

I soured on Tua when he was benched during the Broncos game in Denver four years ago. He was physically overmatched and it was clear he was not a franchise quarterback.

Tua can’t move, has a below average arm, he’s really not that accurate when push comes to shove and when you pressure him he folds like a lawn chair. They were able to hide it for a while with a pair of all pro receivers but the moment both of those guys started battling injuries the real Tua came out. It’s time to move on.

 

So true.Me I was upset when we drafted Tua.Thought he was a product of unbelievable talent at Bama.But in saying this I was believing in him early on this season and early last year.I won't be fooled again.

 

And now watching Jordan Love we really ****ed up drafting Tua.

Same draft and yeah, he’s playing as good as anyone in the NFL the last 8-10 weeks. GB has a hell of a better team and roster but he’s making throws Tua can’t.

 

Sure was, we would have been better off drafting Herbert, Love, or Hurts. This GB Dallas game also shows how far away we actually are. Dallas is the only above .500 team we beat all season, and we barely beat them in a home game we probably should have lost. Now the Packers are spanking them in their own stadium. We're crap.

 

He would‘ve been my pick back then but we don’t know how he would’ve developed/fared here.

 

I think Dak is a better version of Tua. Guy ain't it. Don't make the same mistake Dallas did and lock him in.

 

Tua would‘ve been my #1 with Burrow gone, if it weren’t for the hip injury and injury concerns. So it was Love, Herbert, Hurts for me, but I was okay with Tua and thought injuries would be his only real concern, after this season there’s sadly more questions about Tua.

Flores wanted Love. The guy who picked the worst QB in that draft got to keep his job though. Make it make sense.

Not against Buffalo. They've been our kryptonite for a while now. We need an offense that can take advantage of his guaranteed turnovers and better run defense against QBs. Seeing Mahommes not get sacked after he was in their clutches time and time again only to scamper 10-15 yards downfield was infuriating. I know they were short due to injuries but we need to shore up the defense with better linebacker depth and the secondary can use a re-tool.

 

Actually, it's funny, I'm on the opposite side of this as compared to the Tannehill Wars.

 

Not Herbert. He also choked in the playoffs and tends to disappear in big games. Tua > Herbert thus far based on how good an offense you can build around them, but neither has shown they're the type of QB that can win the SB.. yet.

 

I mean this is always such an odd argument though. Would you have passed on Burrow because he played with talent at LSU? How much talent did Stroud have at OSU? Should teams avoid Penix at all costs because of all that Washington talent?

I do think we need to face - and beat - some good teams earlier in the season though. I've said it before, I want Buffalo early. Week 1-3. Give us 2-3 teams with a 2023 winning record in the first 5-6 weeks. Let us see and know early on whether things might have improved or whether it's the same old same old.

 

Correct. The Dolphins front office did everything they could to disparage Flores with leaks to the media and now look. Tua couldn’t handle Flo criticizing him and melted down.

 

Also correct. Flores wanted Jordan Love but was overruled by our overrated GM and our clueless, bumbling hobgoblin of an owner.

 

We played Buffalo game 4 this year and they stomped us. I knew right then we were the same old same old.

IMO, I like Ross in that he wants to win. Some owners don't have that, and just want to be profitable. So thankful for that. However, he backed the wrong horse, and he needs to stop being a moron, and move on. NOW.

 

If look at my earlier posts I wanted Burrow.Seemd to have that it factor leaders have.Tua just didn'tseem like a leader to me then and definitely now.I watched after the Ravens game when they lost the chance for home field advantage joking around with Raven players after the game like he didn't care.
He.also.makes us handicapped with his concussion issues.How many QB sneeks did we attempt on 3 and short?

 

I think it also handicaps his throwing abilities. He's not really standing in there to take hits on throws. If you watch the Warner videos, there's 2-3 examples of that. Just him getting rid of the ball before he should because he doesn't want to take the hit. Which is fair, he doesn't want a concussion and his body type isn't one that can sustain a hit but it's just another reason why the play always needs to go as planned.

The KC game they showed a graphic where Tua had the most time to throw all season, but obviously he was a disaster. Looking at football reference he was pressured only twice, which is 4.7% of his dropbacks. That's the 4th least all season. So the problem wasn't applying pressure to Tua, or the line, the problem is KC was playing man press, bumping guys at the line, and that just murdered Tua's timing. Murdered the script, and when he has to start processing on his own and go off script. He's a mess.
