You have to wonder how involved the new CEO Garfinkel will be involved in the decision... He may be the guy that persuades Ross to head to another direction.

 

Garfinkel has nothing to do with football operations and no input on that side.

 

Like I said in a previous thread. How can this billionaire, not be prepared? Its not like this team just suddenly went spiraling down the drain. It's been 6 plus years that we have been mediocre. The last 2 hasn't changed, A GM who blew a lot of his money on shat players and lets not forget all the crap went on this year. Ross should have a plan and execute it, doesn't take a rocket scientists to see where the problems are.

Seems Ross was playing dumb, and just hoping we make into the play off so he can sweep everything that happened to the club this year under the rug. This guy is as unprepared as the team was for the last 2 games. No wonder he likes Philbin, apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Still Ross needs to speak with whomever and decide what to do next? Come on' Man... Grow a ****ing pair and learn what it takes to be a real NFL owner, get your hands dirty. Dam just look at the other 2 clowns Jones and Snyder, at least they got the cojones to do what best for there club, even if there wrong.

 

I'd like to think that he's taking his time on Philbin. If he's taking his time on Ireland and trying to figure it out, well then **** me, we're doomed.

 

Well, if you beat the jets your in the playoffs, you simply cannot remove people from their duties if that happens, unless it comes from the head coach..

It's really not an easy situation for the owner, and what I mean by that is when you have two games to go, and you control your own destiny for the playoffs, and your coming off a three game winning streak vrs the jets, steelers and pats, your not out there actively shopping for replacements..

The two losses, in the fashion that happened, suggests somethin wasn't kosher inside..

We all want the best GM possible, but Ireland isn't bad enough to flat out can w/o a viable solution in place. This isn't like Sparano where we're basically guaranteed to do no worse. If we fire him but don't find a worthy replacement then we're left even more screwed. We could have Carl Peterson acting as interim GM for a year with Philbin a lame duck head coach. LOL. People act like canning Ireland is the solution. It's not. Finding the right replacement is the solution. So that's what we should be most concerned with, not firing Ireland just for the sake of it which could actually do more harm than good.

 

I disagree. I think every owner should have a list, updated annually, of 5 persons he would consider for the position of head coach, and another 5 for general manager. That same sheet of paper should also have 3 things he wants his team to do really well, anything from sacks to ticket sales, and he should evaluate every year if the team is doing them well enough.

I don't think fans forget that there needs to be a plan, it just isn't their job to develop that plan. Fans are allowed to make it known when they think the product isn't working, because ultimately the point of the product is to entertain them. If they aren't entertained, it's not their job to tell the provider how to fix it, it's the provider's job to figure it out. If the fans were paid individually millions of dollars per year and had the resources that the professionals do, then it might be a different story.

Yes, he is. He is definitely not irreplaceable, and his track record is not exactly a high water mark of competency.

 

That's a creative method. Not sure if anyone does that but I'll give you credit there. Ross should have been prepared for the worst, so that's where he failed really. He wasn't so I can't blame him for not firing anyone on Monday.

He just doesn't get, imo being an NFL you just cant hire some people and sit back, while being involved in your other businesses. You have to be involved in some capacity. Dam this is an exclusive billion dollar club, that needs to be attended too. First he got too involved to lettings others handle it. You get reports, you see what and where your monies are being spent and finally you look at your returns. If the don't work, something is up.

He couldn't close the deal on Harbaugh and other coaches. 1st red flag. Giving an additional year and more money to a coach you planned on firing just so he doesn't feel bad and you look good? 2nd red flag. Others are telling you the reason why you couldn't close the deal on Coach H and you ignore them. that's 3rd red flag. To top it off you give an additional year to Ireland under the radar, but it still smacked you in the face, since we fans found it, but hey its your money.

Tried getting Manning, he tells you Not interested. Dam something must be wrong. I would be racking my brain to find out wtf is this not working. Your a Business man, work it dude.

Now 6 years of BS drafting and free agency. 100 million spent this last year. The once Prestigious Miami Dolphins, are a laughing stock of the NFL for what happened with clowns in the locker room, which fall's on the GM and Coach. You reach out and get together with past Dolphins and Highly regarding coaches and players and you still have no clue what to do?

Ross cant call himself a Dolphin or a fan of the NFL. Seems he just went out a bought a membership to a really exclusive club.

I haven't been pissed off about the phins in a really long time, since the Marino years. I so wanted to have the Dolphins (Marino) win a SB. After breaking too many remote controls and being aggravated I just said I need to back away after so many disappointments. :pity:

This man, despite what many others here told me over the years, is not brilliant. Luck plays a part in successful people becoming mega successful, and it's clear his luck has run out in regards to his football team.

 

the choice becomes live with getting worse but then getting better over time with the best players in several years drafts, OR reliving Ground Hog day every year, where you never get worse but never get better because the GM is just what his teams are - mediocre.

I choose to take a chance that includes worse or better, than standing pat and never finding success. At least the other way there is a chance to get better

 

Um, all Garfinkle (and Dee for that matter) are in charge of is marketing...basically nothing on the field.. In the future, you might want to get facts before you become outraged...otherwise you look ridiculous.

 

LB, even you should know not to believe every thing you read on the internet. Ross is too successful to be 'blind sided' by this loss. He may be young in 'owner years', but he's not stupid... Whatever plan that he's working on, he's doing it calculatingly and purposefully... That's not to say that he won't make the same mistakes or make another mistake, just that he's got a plan for this situation....

 

What exactly has Ross done to make you think he's not stupid? Just about every football move he's made so far has been incredibly awkward, ham-handed and stupid. The man knows nothing about football or how to run an NFL team. He's a joke of an owner, worse than Huizenga. He needs to go get some help from someone who knows what they're doing, find someone who knows how to run an NFL team.

 

For years people have had a hard time understanding that business success does not = sports ownership success. They're not mutually exclusive. It's why the Marlins and Cubs and Redskins and Cowboys all turn hefty profits each year despite lackluster play.

I am thinking he thought letting the GM go on a shopping spree, having hired the "right" coaching staff, that everything would just pan out and the playoffs would just fall into their laps. Is he so arrogant?

Well he needs to make up his mind soon. All of the top candidates for GM or Coaching positions are being interviewed right now so if he waits a week a lot of the quality candidates are going to be gone. We've been gun shy before and wound up with 2nd tier candidates. Ross needs to wake up. The fact that he hasn't fired Ireland yet scares me, I think Ireland is actually going to get another year which is just infuriating as a fan to even think about. The worst thing we could do is to go into next season with a lame duck front office and coaching staff with a goal of just winning one more game and having a shot at the playoffs. After the better part of a decade to do his job Ireland has had more than ample time to put together a 10 win or more team. Its over Ross, do the smart thing and move on.

 

That's one of many reasons why I think this franchise will struggle regardless of our GM or HC. Success starts at the top and I'm not sure Ross is capable of having a successful NFL franchise. I've seen nothing up to this point that would lead me to believe he can be.

 

Exactly. Mark Dominick, who has a better track record of bringing in high level talent, was fired yesterday for having 1 winning season in 5 years. Well, Jeff Ireland has had 1 winning season in 6 years, and our owner isn't prepared to make the move?

Someone get Jordan Zimmerman on the line and get him to make an offer for this team! If Ross isn't prepared to fire Jeff Ireland, quite possibly the worst GM in all of football, then there is no hope for this organization going forward unless Ross sells the team.

 

He was pretty aggressive in trying to get Harbaugh, Fisher, and even Manning. Sometimes it doesn't work out. It may have hurt this franchise even more. I think people looked at the way Ross handled Sparano and shied away a bit.

There is a more nagging question: why could this organization NOT bring in a big-named HC? Ownership? FO?

From all accounts, Miami (the city) seems to be a very appealing. Nice place. Gorgeous weather. Tax leniency. Beach and boobies. Why have the team struggled in their pursuits of the big names? I think this is the sixty-thousand dollar question...

 

Ross busy with a lot of things these days.

 

Ross hasn't quite figured out that the reason he missed on Harbaugh was because of the man he brought with him to try and convince him to take the job. Had he been willing to fire Jeff Ireland, then Jim Harbaugh is likely the Dolphins coach. Jeff was also the reason we didn't get Fisher.

 

Am I the only one that doesn't think us missing out on Harbaugh and Fisher is a sign of us struggling?

I mean, at the time, no one thought we even had a chance at Harbaugh. He could just stay in the same area and move up to the NFL. I honestly think the only time it even looked like we might have a chance was just Harbaugh using us as negotiating leverage contract wise, he (and his family) wanted to stay where they were.

With Fisher, again it seemed like he was already looking towards St. Louis. They had a much higher draft pick, and most importantly, what everyone assumed was a franchise QB at the time. Plus, he was already from a smaller franchise so I don't think any big city aspect really mattered to him.

If you look at the past, we've had big name coaches, and recently, we've had opportunities and just picked the wrong people. I think we'd have a really good opportunity to get a big name HC this year with the play of Tannehill improving and the team having a good amount of talent, but I don't think Ross is going to fire Philbin.

Edit - I will also agree with KB21 for once that one area where Ireland could be a hindrance in acquiring names. I don't think we would have gotten either of these coaches or Manning even without Ireland, but his reputation really doesn't help much.
