Dan Quinn should be a familiar name, coached Miami's DL under Saban. Koetter I could do without.

There is a lot of interesting stuff in that article and you post the bs speculation part?
How about:
Pouncey took reps at guard and when asked said he perfers the position?

I'm actually doing research right now on quarterbacks, coaches, and passer efficiency numbers and how they fit together. Dirk Koetter is one of the names I'm looking at and my initial reaction is that I'm kicking a hole in my television set if that's the best we can do. He is a total non-impact offensive coach.
If we're going to grab a coordinator, I'd be far more interested in Hue Jackson. As long as Steve Ross doesn't die and leave Jackson to hijack the team mid-season, he's very intriguing. The only 2 seasons the Raiders have had in the past decade that weren't complete and utter garbage, Hue Jackson was the offensive coordinator and then the head coach. Those were the only two times they finished better than 23rd in scoring (6th and 16th) and he got 7.3 YPA out of Jason Campbell and then 8.4 YPA out of Carson Palmer. Definitely would excite me more than Koetter.MrClean likes this. -
I may turn my fandom in if we were to hire Dirk Koetter...that's over-exaggerating, but I'd be so disappointed.
I want Harbaugh. He's the best winner that will/should be available. If we can't land him, that's a major disappointment. I'm OK with Dan Quinn as a fall back. I've always like him. However, I worry about this ability to run a team and not a section or specific department. -
The Falcons offense is faltering this year. With Ryan and his weapons, there's no excusing it. No to Koetter. But I wouldn't mind having Dan Quinn back here. Did a solid job here under Saban and continues to prove he's an excellent defensive coach.

They're averaging over 30 points a game. I think that's part of why Koetter even gets brought up.

Todd Bowles is the next no name and we never really considered him to be HC and let him walk.Same with Jason Garrett.
How many people thought Carroll would win a SB after his 2nd stint in the NFL?
JJ was the biggest name out there when we hired him. What did he give us besides great draft picks?
62-7 and quitting come to mind.
There is no science to hiring the right HC whether it be a big name or not. -

Seems like we have messed up every Head Coaching hire we've tried for the last 20 years doesn't it? No matter if they were the biggest name out there, the best coordinator available, the best college coach etc, etc. Please Santa Clause give us a coach or make Philbin suddenly better, Please!

Unfortunately I just don't have any faith in Ross being able to hire one of the top prospects if Philbin is fired. So my expectation right now is that the next HC will be someone who has no other head coaching opportunities in the NFL, but he will agree to work well with Hickey and Aponte. That appears all Ross really cares about when it comes to hiring individuals for the Dolphin organization.
As long as the HC, GM, and Aponte all can get together and have some fun, Ross seems to think that's all which is needed to have a winning organization.
The reason I think the Dolphins have no chance of getting Harbaugh is because after his experience with the front office of the 49er's, Harbaugh would want to hire his own GM and I wouldn't be surprised if he wants to get rid of Aponte as a condition for taking the job.
I don't think Ross is willing to give Harbaugh this much power and he would rather settle for another no name head coach who will accept the present power structure in the organization. -

I mean truly he was a headliner among that head coach class. Even John Fox, who had won at the NFL level and had a 5-3 playoff record with Carolina, wasn't as hot an item that offseason. -
JH did well at Stanford and panned out no doubt, but there are guys like Shiano and Spurrier that did the same thing too.
One who took a lesser team out of obscurity and the other with greater credentials than JH ever had. They didn't do much in the NFL
My point being, there's no science to knowing what your going to get. Whether it be a big name or no name. It needs to be the right person to HC this team. -

Harbaugh was a rock star in 2011.
He had the NFL QB resume. He had the bloodlines. He had the college resume, turning programs into winners and rugged national powers. His sophomore QB was the sure-fire #1 pick, the best QB prospect in years. His name was all over the media. And his brother was currently excelling as a HC in Baltimore.
Our power people -- led by Ross -- were slobbering all over him pregame at the Orange Bowl. A game in which his team slaughtered a Frank Beamer club on an 11-game winning streak. And then Ross desperately flew across the country to offer him the keys to the kingdom -- while he still had a head coach under contract.
Harbaugh was going to be a rookie HC in the NFL, but he certainly wasn't a nobody. And he's done nothing to temper talk or expectations since!MrClean and ckparrothead like this. -

Maybe he learned from it though.
But that ilk of a coach in general...sure. -

Why no mention of Adam Gase?

You'd think that after our experience with Joe Philbin, this team wouldn't be stupid enough to hire Peyton Manning's personal secretary.

He's still one of the most talked about coaches in the NFL. And his teams are expected to compete for the Super Bowl.dirtywhiteboy likes this. -
If this thread is about discussing coaching candidates that aren't named Harbaugh, then I think Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald deserves mention.
He's long been respected and even coveted by NFL teams, but he's resisted moving up and has stayed the coach of Northwestern.
Guy was a 2x Bronco Nagurski and 2x Chuck Bednarik trophy winning linebacker at Northwestern, also a 2x Big Ten DPOY winner. He's in the College Football Hall of Fame. Yet he wasn't even drafted. The Dallas Cowboys gave him a chance in 1997 but after a year he decided coaching was his thing.
Northwestern has been to only 10 bowl games in the last 50 years, and 5 of them were coached by Fitzgerald during his 8 years (this is his 9th year and at 3-2 it looks likely they'll go to another bowl game). -
He's also one of the most talked about coaches bc he and his team have been the center of plenty of drama. -
