Unless Tannehill show more consistency over the last five games, it will not surprise me if they draft a QB in the first or second round of this years draft.
Philbin, Sherman, and Lazor all tied their jobs to Tannehill developing into a solid QB. While Tannehill did show improvement each of his first three years, this year he has seemed to plateau in his development.
Perhaps it's because of Lazor's play calling to some degree, but his pocket awareness and inability to play well for large parts of many games continues to be a major problem.
Tannehill will obviously be with the Dolphins next year because of his contract. Whether the next head coach will want to put his job in Tannehill's hands beyond 2016 will have to be determined. Yet the next head coach should have the right to bring in his own QB of future if he thinks Tannehill is not the answer. Drafting a QB in the early rounds of the 2016 draft will at least provide competition at the QB position and just might provide an upgrade for the position over the coming years. -

One small correction I'd like to make on that final quote;
Another reason time is running out imo, is because they are no more meaningful games, hence no more clutch games, and that is one of the big issues that the team even mentioned when he signed this contract. -
I'm all for drafting a guy. There are some decent QBs available in the draft imo. Free agency doesn't have much to offer. I'd say we'll take someone in the early rounds. Tannehill has five games to show us something, otherwise his run will be coming to an end. In a way....his era already has ended.

Kind of what we all (well most of us) have known. Ryan will be our QB next season but will basically be playing for his job next season. I think they will undoubtedly be drafting a QB this year to help make that decision a little easier if it comes to that. Sucks but he simply has not shown enough to date to merit that bogus contract that IMO had a lot to do with trying to help him feel like the organization was 100% behind him. Because god forbid he have to think someone doesn't like him or that the PS players are trying to make fun of him. The delicate kit gloves treatment has been pathetic...a QB can't be a mental midget and thats what Philbin and his regime just may have created.
That being said we will also get another full year in all likelihood to see if he can become that QB we all hoped he would but has yet to surface. Ryan will be our QB next year and I'm ok with that, because he will be forced to play with a chip on his shoulder instead of having everything handed to him. He just may thrive with that weight on his shoulders. -
I think we will see better overall play just because Lazor being gone is a breath of fresh air for the Off in general. Question is will Ryan also improve on many of the things he still needs to improve on?? Here's to hoping.dolphin25 likes this. -
It's high time this team follow the Seattle Seahawks' approach of addressing the QB position. Spam it until something sticks. Look at the resources they spent in a very short amount of time searching for a QB on Charlie Whitehurst, Matt Flynn, and then Russell Wilson. I guess you could even throw Tavaris Jackson in there. They weren't afraid to move on from a failed attempt quickly or even draft a guy to cover their *** if the free agent (Flynn) didn't pan out.
I'm not lumping Tannehill in with the likes of Whitehurst or Flynn. But simply put, he isn't playing well enough this season and not only has he not improved, but he's regressed. It would be a very prudent move to draft or otherwise acquire legitimate competition for the position in the offseason.MAFishFan, Bumrush, dolphin25 and 1 other person like this. -

There were people on here who really wanted Flynn.
I'm not sold on drafting a QB in this draft. If we're going to go high in the draft on a QB, I want to be sure we're getting someone better than what we have. Not just draft high because. You know, like how we got Tannehill. -
It's certainly NOT looking good, and I agree with what a poster said earlier: there's just no more meaningful games this year. Pride only goes so far, and it works better when there is something to work for.
I said this before the season started, but retracted a little when the preseason came; but I smell another Alex Smith-type career. And he is not near as athletic. Smith had what? Three or four different coordinators in his first several years in the league? He gets chopped for Kaepernick. I hope Miami doesn't have similar results.
Another first-round QB comes to mind with similar circumstances: Jason Campbell. I sure as hell hope for Tanny's sake his career doesn't turn into that..... -

I disagree these games are very meaningful for him. They may be the last games he plays if something clicks in the off season but besides that, he needs to show something to restore peoples confidence. He faces some solid opponets and his performance means a lot.

Unfortunately, this draft is rather week at the QB position. Miami might do best trying to pick a young QB off another roster who has had a year or two to develop...McCarron from Cincy or Hundley on GB. I don't think the Pats would be willing to let go of Garoppolo given Brady's age.
Heck, if Manziel could stay off the booze I think he would be an upgrade over Tannehill. At least Miami would be a bit more exciting on offense. Not only has Tannehill played bad, he is boring as ****.dolphin25 likes this. -

I don't think we can stop trying just because some guy was a bum or another guy didn't work out. I used to like Holmgren's approach who would take a QB in almost every draft whether it was to find their franchise QB, develop a good backup or find someone who could be trade bait, even if it was in the 7th round. It's too important of a position to not be drafting someone in every 2-3 drafts.
On top of finding someone who could replace Tannehill, I think we just have to get better at drafting in general. The last 3 drafts have yielded 1 impact player which isn't going to cut it. I'm not talking about All-Pro caliber players, just people who can play their position at a high level and positively impact the game.
This team is littered with backups who shouldn't be starting on most rosters besides 4-7 teams. With Grimes decline, we need to replace 3/4 of our secondary in the next 2 years, at least 2/3 of LB corp and 2-3 starters on our DL. Hopefully Phillips can develop into a starting DT. Offensively, we need at least 2 better starters on the OL. Either Tannehill has to figure out to reduce the number of negative plays with sacks and turnovers or we need to move on from him. At this point, he doesn't have my confidence. -

They should at least bring in a vet to compete even if the y don't draft one.

I've read your posts defending Tannehill like you gave birth to him. So I've wondered is he trolling or just simply lonely b/c clearly you subscribe to the "only time we're speaking is when we're beefing" way of life. If you even want to call it a life. So have at it and continue to believe it's your duty to be part of THill's defense team while getting your panties in a bunch every time a fellow fan makes a negative post. -

It's time now IMO.
The guy while having issues with his OL has shown very little growth.
I've taken a wait and see approach consistently up to recently.
It's time to reassess the QB position again.
Don't believe Tanny is going to progress much more. -

manning isn't going anywhere to compete for a job, if he doesn't start he is just going to retire.

That Marshawn Lynch guy, he was pretty good.
To me, get THill even a competent offensive line, we have two Guards who should not be on the field, a poor running game, and chaos in the Staff, a mismatched Te.
Still buying what Tannehill is selling let us see how the month plays out -
I don't wanna draft a QB high. I want to draft BPA because this team has needs everywhere.
That being said, I'd like to trade for McCarron or draft mid to late rounds. We need competition at QB. Tannehill should be playing for his job next season so that should light a fire under his ***.
