Ross has to, he must know that the last two games have seriously pissed off the fanbase, no changes will say he's happy with the same old same old. Any owner, no matter how useless he is, knows he's got to do something to give the fans some optimism...and at least some reason to spend their money on his product.

Of course, I'll not hold my breath waiting on any changes being what is really needed...we've been kicked in the stomach too often in the past.

 

As long as they don't eject the best parts of the team while retaining the problems, no one will have a problem with change at this point.

If these changes don't include firing Ireland it will be shades of 2010. Every fan in their right mind new this regime needed to be flushed but Sparano got one more season. And Ireland is somehow also still employed.

The way it's worded suggests that definitely Ireland and Sherman are gone, with Coyle a possibility. That's what I gather at least.

They'd be stupid to fire Philbin. Coyle should go IMHO. His gameplan's the last 2 weeks were atrocious, and he had no adjustments. Not to mention the degredation of the run D. Sherman, maybe. OL coach, definitely.

IMO Sherman was calling plays according to Philbin's instructions.

However:

Head coaches give direction in how they want games called but the coordinators make those calls and manage the game when it comes down to it unless the HC literally calls in what he wants. Nothing that I have seen has even insinuated this is what has been going on.

Secondly, Sherman's Dolphins tenure is not the first time having his game plan/management and calls being a focal point of controversy.

Agreed. But I saw some things from Sherman this year that were so against the grain that I have a hard time believing he was doing it without instructions or at least blessings from his boss. Abandoning the run early in games, not calling screens, draws, counters, traps, etc. Not moving the pocket, running the QB, moving Wallace around to create favorable matchups, among other things. It's hard for me to imagine that Sherm decided all that on his own. If Philbin was a bystander to that then it doesn't speak well for him in my book.

 

Ireland should go. I've been debating it a lot lately and I'm turning the corner on this. I stand by my original idea that he should get this season, and he did. Now I'm judging him fairly without bias and I don't think he should be back.

Philbin should remain another year unless the new GM decides objectively that he isn't the man for the job. Not just because the GM wants "his guy".

Sherman needs to go. No more game plans written with crayon and construction paper please. I'm not sure Sherman doesn't do it that way...he's that inept.

Coyle I'm on the fence. I wouldn't mind keeping him but he needs to better utilize his LBs and set them up for success not failure. Also needs to look at his late game defensive calls, man up and make some changes.

New OL and QB coaches as well.

I honestly believe we are an easy rebuild for a decent GM. We have some nice pieces, now lets add to them and make a run.

That statement right there, to me... says that they all need to go. Whether it was Sherman's decision to do all of that, or Philbin's... It's irrelevant. Someone decided to do things that way... they should have collectively been able to realize it's not working, and try to adjust. We had the same problems all year long on field. It never changed. To me, that's damning of the entire staff. I dont care who was the bystander, and who was the director, it was all wrong, it wasnt ever really fixed asife from maybe a few brief momments. To me, that means your OC needs to go, and your HC needs to go for failing to take control, especially when he's a former OC. The whole thing is flawed at this point IMO.

 

I also believe this to be true. This team has a greatly improved young QB with the arrow pointing up. Bring in a GM who can build a competent offensive line and this is no major overhaul. It's a flawed roster, but it just needs some glue in the cracks to bring it all together. The problem is Ireland can never fix it. Not without making more cracks. He's proven this time and time again. If he's retained he will prove it again.

 

I agree, you can't seperate Philbins ultimate responsibility from what Sherman was doing. Philbin blessed the plan weekly and has override authority on all plays.

 

If Sherman were to get ****canned , it doesn't mean a entirely different offense would be installed. We have more then 4-5 plays in the playbook.

Sherman is terrible. He needs to go. Tannehill is crazy smart, and would have absolutely no problem learning a new system.

 

I wouldnt shed any tears if they we're let go but IMO they'll get at least one more season. I just hope they've been sufficiently humbled by what's happened.

 

Even if it DID take him time to acclimate himself, ill take one learning year overultiple years of Sherman. He won't be the OC for Ryan his whole life, so it will be an issue at some point. Lets get it out of the way now.

 

I'd love to know what Philbins game day role is. I see him walking up and down the sideline, clapping and saying let's go, talking in his headset on occasion. I don't see him talking to RT, the OL, receivers, etc. He doesn't call plays, both coordinators are upstairs, so what is he doing, anyone know?

I find it hard to believe Philbin said "No moving the pocket. No draw plays. No HB screens. In fact don't run the ball".

The offense was very Vanilla, like many have said....predictable. Im not a big fan of gimmick plays, but we saw nothing this year to shake things up once in a while.
I still have a hard time with them letting Bush and Marshall go.

I've never really understood why people tend to evaluate an OC/DC on an island. If Philbin didn't think that handing the ball to Clay on 4th and inches, he had every authority to overrule the call. If Philbin wanted more screens, rollouts, draws, all he had to do was tell Sherman to call them. A pretty significant part of Philbin's job is to make sure that his assistant coaches are doing theirs properly. If he cannot do that, he has no business being a head coach, no matter what he actually called on the field himself.

 

I don't disagree, but geez, folks Armando?? Really?? Guy doesn't have a clue as a reporter/team insider...

 

Could not agree more. You can't hammer Sherman for playcalling and a general lack of offensive productivity and then turn around and give Joe Philbin a pass.
