1. Detroit Lions - Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma
2. St. Louis Rams - Andre Smith, OT, Alabama
3. Kansas City Chiefs - Matthew Stafford, QB, Georgia
4. Seattle Seahawks - Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech
5. Cleveland Browns - Rey Maualuga, ILB, USC
26. Miami Dolphins - William Moore, FS, Missouri
The emergence of USC FS Taylor Mays as a potential NFL prospect has bumped Moore down a bit in his draft projection spot, though keep in mind that Mays could opt to return to Los Angeles for his senior year at USC. If that happens, at least in theory William Moore would move up the board.
The Dolphins used a first rounder on Tennessee DB Jason Allen in 2006, but to date that hasn't particularly panned out -- plus it was a move made by a previous administration. Bill Parcells and his crew are very sharp, and I could see them snatching up Moore and developing him into a solid NFL talent.

p.s. I don't know why he even bothered with that lame assessment of Alex Mack.
-
I just dont see us going safety with any of our first three picks..
Center, linebacker, nose tackle..need strength and power at these positions. keep building from the inside out.
I would love mack or unger to pair up with donald and justin.
Just pick the best player available in those three positions. Seems like a pretty solid simple strategy after assessing our weaknesses on the season. {lotta ss's in there, lol} -
I could see it. William Moore is a heck of a football player.
And do we really pick #26 after all? -
I'm gonna go out on a limb and draft someone from these positions that we haven't drafted or aquired in FA just because these concerns are coming straight from the horses mouth if you will.

I know there is Aaron Maybin or Jerry Hughes; I doubt they declare. I have Andre Smith dropping just b/c I don't think he is a Top 5 Tackle in this draft.
-
Funny that?
That would be terrible mock considering I forgot Aaron Curry. Note to self, don't mock while on a conference call. -
Andre Smith is a guy I changed my opinion on. I didn't know much on his personality abnd when I liked him he was playing well. After watching him more, especially when it counted he struggled. Michael Oher, Eugene Monroe, and Jason Smith are defiantly better. Ciron Black and Eben Britton are even IMO but Smith's issues lowers him for me. the fact that he missed the biggest game of his life due to suspension baffles me.
-
Please share all-knowing Boomer
-
He has a very slow first step which allows speed rushers eat him up. I don't like the fact that in this biggest game of his life he was not playing due to a suspension. He is big and strong but I think the fact that Alabama's line as a hole was solid truely made him seem as a better player than he truley was.

Fins 1st rd pick could bump up to #25
The NFL said the Dolphins will draft 26th in the first round, but would move up to 25th if Philadelphia, San Diego or Arizona makes the Super Bowl. In his first mock draft, ESPN's Todd McShay has Miami picking Gators junior inside linebacker Brandon Spikes, with USC linebacker Brian Cushing and Alabama junior defensive tackle Terrence Cody going right before that.
http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/co...ry/840551.html -
I would be happy with Spikes due to his versatility. He obviously can play inside but like CK brings up, he could be very good on the outside.
-
This might be overkill, but how nice would it be to have Unger AND Mack? I have to give props (Boomer, et al) to the notion that not only is Unger solid, but how nice would it be to have one guy who could step in anywhere on the line (except LT) without a steep dropoff in play? I would imagine that it could be a cost effective approach as well. Mack may come with some question marks, but the dude is a flat out mauler with smarts and work ethic. Unger- he's just plain good and darned athletic to boot. If I had to pick one right now- Unger gets the nod because of his versatility. Just with C in mind- tough call.
I could live with this:
1) Unger
2) Mack
3) Britt
That doesn't mean that I would be disappointed with a solid defensive pick, though. As long as they're good picks and the guys contribute it's all good to me. -
Alex Mack is playing way too upright in pass pro, doesn't reset his feet and will find himself on his backside faster than you can pronounce his lastname against any decent NFL DT if he doesn't get rid of this habit. Personally, unless I'm absolutely positive that I can get him out of it without messing up his technique, I'm not investing a first or high second round pick in him.
Boomer likes this. -
Why go center that high when a big, strong, mean SOB like Antoine Caldwell will be there in Round 3?
-
If you ask me and you didn't so I am chimming in here our needs are as follows...
1) Pass Rushing Outside Linebacker
2) Cornerback(Andre Goodman is a Free Agent)
3) Nose Tackle
4) Big Wide Receiver
5) Center -
I would much rather have Vontae Davis.
-
I'd prefer OLB, but I would not shed a tear if we got William Moore. I think he is awesome, and could potentially play either S position depending on how he tests out at indy(though I think he'd be better at SS).
-
Add mulauaga and curry to that list and thats 5 legit 1st rounders, we gotta try to get one of those bad boys. Then one of those centers with our 2a {Unger, mack,caldwell}..
I know some have said that this is a weak draft but i kinda like it and the way it shapes up. -
A 3rd down OLB who is a pass rusher mostly would be a great way for a rookie to break into the NFL. -
No seriously, hes a heck of a player. A big part of the CB debate will be Jason Allen. I think he gets decided this offseason. Safety, CB or cut. Where he ends up will likely play a big part of whether we go after a S or CB early. -
-
If we could have swapped guards and center with the Ravens, we beat them hands down. IMO.jim1 likes this. -
I am not 100% sure of how Irelands Column ranking works out but to me it seems that he ranks the players in every position, then assigns each pick a position and then goes with the best ranked prospect at that position when the pick comes up. Like, I said before I am not sure if thats correct. If Boomer or anyone else care to share their knowledge on the subject of Column ranking I would greatly appreciate it! -
Think about parcells teams in the past..especially with the giants, no big #1 wideout on those teams, justa collection of savvy vets.same thing in new england, same thing with new york..cammy. bess and ginn can get the job done.
We need obvious brute strength on both sides of our interior lines, and desperately need a bad *** linebacker who can hit like a truck.
Like i said if you wanna add to the receiver core, i think its the smart move and the obvious one to add a pro, a vet like bolden, its the perfect position to spend some money on thru free agency. not a draft pick. -
As my last post here at thePhins.com I want to start by syaing it has been a real ride and I wish the best of luck to everyone in the future.
Why do i think Caldwell falls to Round 3 you ask Boom? It is easy. The junior talent level in this draft is the best it has ever been in the history of the NFL draft. Underclassmen such as Michael Crabtree, Sam Bradford, Matthew Stafford, Knowshon Moreno, Andre Smith, Gerald McCoy, Brandon Spikes, Hakeem Nicks, Vontae Davis, Eben Britton, Kenny Britt, CJ Spiller, Chris Wells, Jeremy Maclin, LeSean McCoy, etc. etc make all the senior prospects take a step back. There are only 32 picks per round and this years' draft is the deepest it has been in awhile. Caldwell is very good play and IMo sort of a sleeper. Looking at the rankings I have seen for Centers and it seems that Max Unger, Eric Wood, Alex Mack, and even Jonathan Luigs all have higher grades than Caldwell.
For Caldwell to last to us in Round 3 I would need to name roughly 75 players better than him in the draft...
Sam Bradford, Matthew Stafford, Josh Freeman, chris Wells, Knowshon Moreno, LeSean McCoy, CJ Spiller, Shonn Greene, Michael Crabtree, Jeremy Maclin, Darrius Heyward Bey, Percy Harvin, Kenny Britt, Derrick Williams, Hakeem Nicks, Louis Murphy, Brandon Pettigrew, Jermaine Gresham, Chase Coffman, Eugene Monroe, Andre Smith, Jason Smith, Michael Oher, Jamon Meredith, Eben Britton, Ciron Black, Russell Okung, Phil Loadholt, Duke Robinson, Herman Johnson, Max unger, Alex Mack, Brian Orakpo, Aaron Maybin, Tyson Jackson, Michael Johnson, Greg hardy, Everette Brown, Larry English, Jerry Hughes, Cody Brown, Terrence Cody, Sen'Derrick Marks, Peria Jerry, BJ Raji, Gerald McCoy, Ndamukong Suh, Evander Hood, Aaron Curry, Clint Sintim, Brian Cushing, Clay Matthews, Rey Maualuga, Brandon Spikes, james Laurinaitis, Darry beckwith, Malcolm jenkins, Vontae Davis, Sean Smith, DJ Moore, Alphonso Smith, Darius Butler, Victor Harris,Mike Mickens, Louis Delmas, Taylor Mays, William Moore, Rashard Johnson, Patrick Chung,
I believe that is 67 off the top of my head.
Anyways good luck all and Happy new Year -
I never heard Caldwell got a 2nd round grade if he had come out last year. Was that according to Tony Pauline? If he did and passed coming out for that reason, it would seem foolish on his part. Center are so seldom taken in round 1 over the years, except a few notable exceptions. -
Thanks Boom. I just can't imagine Caldwell improved his draft stock by returning for his senior season. Perhaps, but not likely. I guess he could leapfrog Luigs and Wood, though some have Luigs higher than Mack. The best he can hope for is to remain a 2nd rounder IMO.
