I guess if that was the way the first round was going Keenan Allen or Chance Warmack seem like the likely choices IMO*.
*Ireland's the GM. -
Sign me up for that.

Me too Fin-o
K Allen..Zeke Ansah..Jon Cooper..Stepfan Taylor..Terry Hawthorne.
That's a nice draft..
Might go Skov, Chase Thomas, and Tyler Eifert instead, but I would be happy either way.Fin-Omenal likes this. -
Almost every mock draft has the Dolphins picking a WR in the first round, and i cannot tell you how much i doubt that's gonna happen.
Firstly, there are no clear cut stud can't-miss number 1 WR. Keenan Allen is the closest, and he is not quite that talented, and he suffered a knee injury to boot.
Then, take into account that this team has sooo many holes, a best player available in the 1st round, is also very likely to be a need-filler.
And finally, while the weakest argument perhaps, the fact still remains that Philbin from Green Bay philosophy, is very likely not inclined to spend 1st round picks on WRs.
I might be wrong, of course, but i just don't see the Dolphins picking a 1st round WR with what looks to be a high draft pick.ssmiami likes this. -

I like it honestly but would prefer Desmond Trufant out of Washington over Hawthorne.

It's one thing to pass on players you think are going to be elite at their position because you really need a quarterback worth a damn. It's another to pass on players you think are going to be elite at their position because you really want a wide receiver.
Passing on Manti Te'o for Keenan Allen would be a hard thing to justify, for me. The range and agility on Te'o have always been off the charts good, but I love how he's cleaned up his game from an instincts standpoint this year. A lot fewer wasted steps, and it goes without saying the guy is playing the passing game a lot better. -
Call me nuts but in the hierarchy of things, after franchise QB, I'd be hard pressed to not deem an elite, franchise ILB in the Lewis/Urlacher mold second in importance. In fact, if you offered me either JPP or a 24 year old Lewis/Urlacher, I'm taking the latter. The only player who would cause pause in my decision is Calvin Johnson, but I'd lean toward Lewis & Urlacher b/c you can still find great WRs to compliment a franchise QB en route to a SB. -
So by targeting a pure three down defensive end, are we saying we're going to let Starks go, and move Odrick inside and put the rookie in Odricks spot, because if we sign Starks and still select a defensive end, then were saying that our first round pick isn't good enough to be a starter..don't like that way of allocating draft resources if that's the case, big picture takes a hit.

I'd be more inclined to spend a 2nd rd pick on a DE or OLB that could come in with pass rushing in mind, a situational pass rusher that can develop at DE or OLB. Maybe a Brandon Jenkins or a Corey Lemonier- or both. I'd rather keep Odrick as a base DE and bump him in on passing downs, not just move him to DT. Pay Randy Starks, he deserves it. I also think that Koa Misi and Kevin Burnett should be looked at in terms of our lack of a pass rush. Jared Odrick is a good base defense player- we need more attack pieces around him and on the perimeter when he's bumped inside on passing downs.
How would this work:
1. Xavier Rhodes
2. Brandon Jenkins
2. Matt Elam
3. Corey Lemonier
3. Sean Porter
4. Da'Rick Rogers
If Mike Williams can fall to the 4th round... And that list above is predicated on signing either Greg Jennings or Dwayne Bowe as a FA. This WR situation has to end. I still wonder if Karlos Dansby is worth $12 million a year, and also whether or not Koa Misi could play MLB for us. I know that Dansby is hurt, but I woudn't say that he provides value at $11-12 million/year. I'd be ok with saving the Dansby money for Starks or a WR/CB free agent. -

If we're looking to draft a Dlineman early than I can't see resigning Starks, just too many resources in one unit...If we dont sign STarks, must move Odrick full time to dtackle and replace Odrick with someone like Werner or Ansah. -

Besides, you can't have enough DEs/pass rushers. Look at the Texans. They have Barwin & Reed and still used a 1st rounder on Mercilus.
There's plenty of snaps to go around IMO.
