we all may have our projections as to were his ceiling is, but the man just keeps comin...incrementally improving every year, thats pretty cool..not sure if Ive seen such a steady, dare I say even slow improvement at the position, every year, and were in year four, overall improvement, I mean we saw how he struggled early last year, but much better this year early, thats improvement from year 3 to year 4, this has to bode well for the rest of the season..
the reason why I think the damien william td pass was his most important play as a pro, is because for once, he didnt wait til the pressure got to him, he dictated his athleticism to the defense early in the progression, was decisive with his footwork, and that assertiveness put him in a position of strength..TD..

imagine where he could be if he had coaching and an oline worth a ****.

Perhaps Tanny should freelance like Suh has been accused of.
Whatever they try to accomplish this week they better do it quickly because he may not have a lot of time to throw.dolphin25 likes this. -

I tried finding it..but cant.
The play before Franks misses the FG...Tannehill is scrambling and rolling out to his right, you can see he is being chased. Watch him...its almost like hes slowing up so he can allow someone to get open deep, but at the same time, he knows exactly where the pursuer is....he holds onto it just long enough to throw it away before being hit.
THAT PLAY is when I really knew the game is slowing down for him. Thats a play I see Russel Wilson making. Yes he didnt complete the pass...but he knew exactly how much time he had...felt exactly where the defender was...loved itSceeto likes this. -

This is why I find it impossible to take detractors seriously when they speak about his game. They are always looking at his past record and the player you see today isn't the one from 2013 or even 2014. He was a project coming out of college and hasn't hit his ceiling yet. When he finally hits his ceiling we can figure out where he ranks. But I will say this, eventually we will have at least one game this season where he gets protection and I expect fireworks. I think he'll absolutely rip it up if he has time. That's why next season we have to fix the oline once and for all no excuses

even though we see rare occassions of him evading pressure and making a play, he's still no where near Lucks level in that dept, and playmaking is a big dept for me..
As far as the gap being closed, I wouldn't hesitate to take Luck so I cant honestly say that gap has closed.
ryan is a tough sob though, love that about him. -
One play I liked a lot from Tanne last week was, in the first or second quarter, he took the snap and looked left. He had an easy, wide open, short, dump off to Miller. In the past, he would have taken that easier dump off, but he quickly shifted his eyes downfield and hit a nice intermediate pass. I forget who he hit on that pass, but it was great and I think a progression to be able scan his options faster. Read, react and hit.

The thing between these two for me, is ceiling. I believe Luck is a lot closer to his than RT is. Luck came into the league MUCH more polished and NFL-ready than RT was. Many thought RT would ride the pine a few years before given the keys, but that didn't happen so there's no way to know if that helped or hurt his progress, but he steadily, if slowly, improves in many areas from year to year.
Many of the issues we notice with RT are timing and quickness in reads for the routes. He has slowly (at least, slowly to me) shown improvement in that area. At times it seems like he's just a hair behind in making that final decision to launch and letting it go. This is the main reason I say we don't know what his ceiling is yet, I'm not sure the game has stopped slowing down for him yet, but it certainly has slowed. It may take another 2 to 4 years for him to really hit his potential...who knows.djphinfan likes this. -

Luck has clearly been better over the course of their careers but if we are talking right this minute I'd say they're about even. For three games straight Luck has gotten a taste of AFCE style defense and he's produced next to nothing. Welcome to Tannehill's world...
Luck remains superior in play making and pocket management, Tannehill seems to have the edge in accuracy and decision making. It's still early though.Phins Up Wins Up and DolphinGreg like this. -

Ryan's not the problem here. His progress has been steady and he's good enough to take a team to the playoffs and win. We can't get our oline built despite an amazing investment of picks and money and the coaching staff just can't coach its way out of a wet paper bag.

IMO it's incredible how steady Tannehill's improvement has been. Most QBs regress in various aspects. I don't see much of that in Tannehill. He's obviously not perfect at everything, but he's improved in everything. Our own Boomer even said he wouldn't trade Tannehill for Luck straight up citing how Tannehill is improving more steadily. Statistically they're basically at the same point now even though Tannehill came in as a very raw prospect and Luck came in as arguably the greatest QB prospect ever. I think it was PFF (or some other similar outfit) that ranked Tannehill above Luck this preseason. Whether you agree or not isn't the point. The point is that they are obviously close enough that reasonable people could come out on either side.
You'd have to be blind not to notice that for two games this year Seattle's defense has looked more like Miami's did for the second half of last year and now Seattle is 0-2. For as much as I like Wilson, it would be unreasonable to expect him to carry his team when his D is giving up 30 pts a game. Yet that's exactly what the "can't differentiate between team stats and individual stats" crowd criticizes Tannehill for.
I am a big Luck and Wilson fan. I think they have a great future ahead of them. But Tannehill is clearly on the same tier.Phins Up Wins Up, Puka-head, adamprez2003 and 8 others like this. -

Objectively, THill is finally shaking off the yrs he missed as a Qb in college and dealing with the league.
Still think his deep ball sucks balls, do think in that 30 yds and in box he is as good as any Qb in the league, and he is sort of shackled, I see a Steve Young in THill -
The problem is that the rest of the league is getting "better" as well, in that the passing game is expanding to such a degree league-wide that Tannehill's performance so far this year is but merely average once again. That's a problem if you want this team to win. It's real tough to win in this league with only an average passing game.

What is true is that people tend to remember the great passing attacks more than the teams that used running and/or defense to win.
It's about average though when you actually review the teams that won and how they ranked.Phins Up Wins Up likes this. -
This thread--while it's positive--is still a Tannehill thread.
In reality, football requires you select a structure you like and build around that. Miami seems to want to have a hero QB. They don't seem to worry abut the lack of production from the O-line, their pass-heavy play-calling and the general lack of talent behind the D-line.
To me, those are all much more important stories. We can probably all stop talking about Tannehill at this point.
In my eyes, if you're talking Tannehill at this point, you're no different than the analysts on TV who want to praise and malign each and every QB for their team's record.Phins Up Wins Up and KeyFin like this. -

Basically what you're saying is that two games played this season is enough to say that Tannehill (a guy that has gotten better each year) already hit his ceiling. I personally don't think so, but to each their own.Phins Up Wins Up and RevRick like this. -
