its crap, somebody is feeding us garbage. the Department of Transportation did a survey and in March 2008, americans drove 11 billion fewer miles than they did last year. you know the miles driven had to be less in april. so why are prices skyrocketing?

Bro, I think it is because of the demands for energy in China have increased and that has lowered supplies.
-
Hopefully this means people are also using alternative means of transportation like carpooling and public transit.

Also, the US and China combined to use half of the worlds refined oil in 2004. Think where it is now.

China and India basically. Even if only 1% owns a car, a good chunk of the rest is using buses on an almost daily basis. And because those populations are so huge, even a few percent is a huge absolute number.
That and oil prices are not entirely set by supply and demand. There's a lot of speculation about the future of the market, and that's partially tied to political volatility in different parts of the world.Phinz420 likes this. -
At some point, unless we get a buttload more sources of oil or change to another fuel, China will have demand enough to use ALL the available oil in the world.

The reason alternative fuel technologies haven't taken hold yet is that most are not technologically mature enough to implement and the ones that are still cost more than gasoline, even at $4 a gallon. -
It appears that a 'customer first' business model has taken a back seat to a 'profit first' model. Reminds me of that motivational poster I saw the other day: "Exxon, when Billions just aren't enough" -

If I wanted to..I could also say that the prices HAVE SKYROCKETTED SINCE the Democrats took Congress. THAT would be a fact. Look at the price of Oil since the Dems took over.
But who cares about those..it gets in the way of the convenient left wing talking point.
The real truth is that the price of Oil has nothing to do with the president or the Dems that took over..although...you can blame them for not wanting to increase supply.Last edited: May 27, 2008 -

Now a retired Cornish mechanic has enlisted the help of the University of Plymouth to rebuild Pogue’s revolutionary carburetor, known as the Winnipeg, from blueprints he found hidden beneath a sheet of plywood in the box. The controversial plans once caused panic among oil companies and rocked the Toronto Stock Exchange when tests carried out on the carburetor in the 1930s proved that it worked. -

Interesting documentary called Who Killed the Electric Car? For those talking about companies killing alternate fuel vehicles in the development stage.

don't be so negative, read the entire article plus dates before you try and prove somebody wrong. as near as i can figure they're two entirely different scenariosLast edited: May 27, 2008 -

there is a finite supply of natural resources, with an ever-growing world population.... this is pretty straight-forward.
don't understand what the confusion is about. the laws of supply & demand make sense and hold true. -

i don't have a lot of faith in Snopes. i heard if you locked the keys in the car, somebody could send a signal over a cell phone and unlock the doors, snopes says it false. well i beg to differ, i saw somebody open their car that way at my dentists office. didn't work the first time but she put her cell on external speaker and it worked like a champ. so snopes doesn't know it all. i believe the article -
