people are too rash in their judgement of players and have this mindset that you need to be under the cap before FA starts. Hold onto players before you really need to cut them, then you could see the restructure contracts help.

Like in Pittsburgh, and DBrickshaw going from 9,985,000 to just 985,000

Eh I think the mindset of getting under the cap has more to do with having money available for particular players. For me I know thats why I do it. Its more important to have space for players I actually NEED as opposed to guys I might be able to get a late round pick for but those have virtually no value in this league except to those who have teams in rebuild mode

 

I cut certain players because I knew no one was going to trade for them. Like Trent Williams, for example. His cap was 11 million. No one would have traded for him.

 

I don't mind forking out a lil extra for someone I want rather than giving up a draft pick for him.

 

Trade me your picks for them, then you cut them, then we can find out. That works, yes?

 

hence why I tend to just trade later round picks for players.
