First 2 picks were reaches. Turner was a really good pick, good value there. Aikens is a good pick, big corner, I would have rather taken Dontae Johnson there, but I won't complain much. the only positive thing about taking Arthur Lynch is that it probably means the end of Egnew. Tripp was a solid pick at where we got him, we'll see if he sends Wheeler to the sideline. I like the Hazel pick too, this will probably be Hartline's last year here. Fede is a longshot to make the roster.
overall I give it a C.
if they sign Colt Lyerla/Brandon Coleman/Max Bullough as UDFA's, I'll bump it up to a B-.

They get an A in FCS Draft, when does the NCAA draft start?

I give them a B-
Ja'Waun James wasn't exciting until I saw him against Dee Ford. What a punch!
Landry is a football player. Wouldn't surprise me if he is the 3rd wide receiver next year. Then start the year after, after Miami cut Wallace.
Billy Turner is pretty exciting. Looks like he could be a really good player. Hopefully he can step right in.
Walt Aikens: Sure, looks O.K. Made a mistake, but made up for it. Pretty good athlete
Arthur Lynch: Not too excited about this pick. I see him pushing Sims more than Egnew.
Jordan Tripp: A special team player
Matt Hazel: Small town player. Funny, his best game was against Aikens Liberty. Has improved every year.
Terrence Fede: Love watching his highlight youtube video. Looks like a man among boys.
On a whole, looks like Miami got a lot of solid players. No one that is super exciting, but functional. Feels like Parcells and Ireland were together again.cuchulainn, Da 'Fins and Unlucky 13 like this. -
I said A-. The main goal was to solidify the offensive line with pass blockers and get a playmaking WR. We did that beautifully. Mission accomplished.
Now it's up to Lazor to get us an offense that makes me not want to vomit every time they touch the field. -

I'm not blown away. The Front Office seems to be in line with my thinking for the draft. No amount of makeup could make this pig beautiful if Tannehill doesn't progress significantly. We drafted two linemen, two receivers, and are bringing back some good players with Rishard Matthews being a breakout candidate. We didn't have the draft resources to go out and fire rockets and that's reflected in our picks. There really wasn't any "win now" talent available so we're banking on having that on the roster already. Interesting that Hickey is hitching his wagon so completely to a situation he didn't really create although that might be a function of recognizing Philbin's ultimate roster authority and great standing with the owner.
I was thoroughly not blown away by this draft which was to be expected. I'm leaning toward a C grade. In this context, a C isn't average, more like adequate. -
If you give this draft a C or lower you pretty much admit you know jack about the draft. Best draft Miami has had in a VERY long time.

hard to grade a draft when it is just said and done, we will not know for 2 or 3 years how the draft ended up. that being said i like this draft. the dolphins filled in the biggest needs, added a playmaker, a blocking tightend and potential red zone threat, and some cb depth. i would give them a B- so far, could go higher or lower in the next couple seasons.

I liked the draft for the most part.
I would have prefered Allen Robinson > Jarvis Landry. And I would of preferred we not drafted Lynch whatsoever. Horrible pick, IMO. But the only pick I feel strongly against. The first three rounds were pretty solid though. I haven't thought that in years. Hopefully these guys turn out well. -
-
Lots of tough, physical guys with leadership qualities taken and most were seniors,... a lot of focus on OL and blocking as well, reminds me a lot of a Parcells-type draft. -
C+
Overall a C. They met expectations, filled some immediate needs. I wish they added Aaron Murray and Daniel McCullers at 4 and 5.
They get a + because players they added 1-5 are good players. The 6 and 7 picks are irrelevant.
Once again Dolphins failed to maximize draft value and gain competitive advantage in rounds 1-3. They did this by drafting scared, ignorant, and reaching for OL. The place for Oline was in later rounds. Benjamin, Hyde, Murray, impact players were available, and Dolphins missed.

I guess time will tell.

I didn't understand the Lynch pick. His skill set is the same as Dion Sims. We didn't upgrade the position.

I give them B. It's not exactly the most exciting draft, but I can see the logic behind the picks and we took care of some glaring holes. So... can't really complain.

I think that it was ok, but not great. The team had the terrible luck of having what were probably ALL of their realistic options at 19 taken shortly before their own pick came. Then it seems they were afraid that James wouldn't be there later if they traded down, so they took him a little higher than he was rated. Not unhappy with the pick. It makes perfect sense. But its a B player. Not their fault that all of the A's were gone, but its what happened.
Not down on Landry, but I didn't think that WR was a pressing need. Rather than the moving around that led to Landry and Turner, I'd have perfered that they trade up and take one of the better interior OL or MLB. Not thrilled about Turner at all.
Virtually everyone after that point will start as deep backups and special teamers, if they make the squad. Thats ok, but none of them even really project to eventually develop into starters, the way that players like Rashad Jones have in the past.
Not angry. Not yelling at Hickey and saying he needs to be fired. Just not excited either. Seemed like they kept just missing on better players and settling for one in the next tier down. -
I dunno I thought the 1st round pick was a good player just awful reach. Liked our 2nd round pick then we went on a scrub school binge. I guess well see how elite scrub school players stack up in the nfl.
-
If we had traded back and still pick James I'd give this draft an A.
I loved our first three picks. I liked our next two based on the little I know. No feelings on the last two. -
I think it was a mediocre draft. Solid C.
- We took safe players.
- We went after needs first regardless of talent level or BPA
- We did not take a game changer on offense/defense
- We did not take a dynamic explosive player on offense/defense
- Many other teams flat out drafted more impact players.
- Passing on Cooks in round 1 is going to haunt us.
- Not trading down and still taking James was unacceptable
- Trading down twice and missing Allen Robinson was unacceptable
- Giving up the 4th we obtained while passing on Allen Robinson to draft another OL was a bold move that we did not need
- Moses went pick #62.......James went pick #19
In a parallel universe, we took Cooks first and then shocked the world and took Robinson in round 2. Rounds 3-5 we built our OL and came out of it better than expected. Nobody cared who we took in round 6 and 7 because we were so pumped about the first 5 rounds.
After all of that it might sound strange to hear that I actually like our first few players that we got. They will probably be solid pros and I have a feeling that we are going to love Landry. What bothers me about this draft is that we didn't get the offensive weapons that we so sorely need to take it to the next level. Our OL got a couple of solid players but I feel like we could have gotten a couple of high end playmakers and still fixed the line. We can't even play on the same field as Denver right now and we aren't in position to win our division in my opinion. We don't have the playmakers that many other teams have. Maybe Lazor will save us. I hope that he does and he has his work cut out for him. -
B-
I think the first 3 picks were EXACTLY what this team needed. "Draft value" is opinion, not fact. If all three of these guys turn out to be stellar starters and last awhile, then the "draft value" is irrelevant.
Landry was my favorite pick. I was very vocal (shocking, I know) about my Stedman Bailey homerism last year, and Landry is probably better than Bailey.inFINSible likes this. -
You like him a lot more than me, I'm guessing? -
I don't think the Rams are using him enough.
Landry is all that plus Hines Ward.cuchulainn, Phins_Fan_87 and Rocky Raccoon like this. -
So where can I get one of these crystal balls so that I can chime in on this?
Impossible to grade this draft or any other. Bare minimum - give it till the end of the season.
Right now, my focus will be on enjoying and supporting this team. All these guys are Dolphins now. They'll be wearing the aqua, white and orange. For at least for the rest of this offseason and season to come, I'll be rooting for them, praying for them, and hoping for them, and enjoying everything they do on the field. Here's to another coming year!

I gave them a B.
We drafted players the coaches felt could best implement their game plans. I love the James pick....because we needed a Right Tackle. We now have bookend tackles, and thats huge.
Landry ...man I cannot WAIT to watch him play in a Phins uniform.
I was confused on the Lynch pick, I know he is a good blocker and catcher, just dont see the upgrade over Sims.
I felt like they knew what they wanted going into the draft, and came away with an improved roster. Solid B.LSU1978 likes this. -

I give it an incomplete.
I'm actually pretty happy with the players. I'm sure I've come across as negative over the past year, but big things like draft weekend turn me into an optimist. Like every year, I'll be hoping for everyone to come in and make his mark on the team in a positive way. We'll see in two to three years. -

A can't great a draft right now. Way too early.
I give Jarvis Landry an "A" because he now has my heart.
