I think they have their long term QB, but I don't think you can really back that with statistics at this point. IE: Year 2

As long as you define "Franchise Quarterback" to be a solid player who can start for your team for many years, and don't narrowly declare that the term is only used for the top 5 in the league or a sure fire Hall of Famer.

He's the best one we've had since Marino and he's only 25. He's smart and hard working and seems to love playing football. We're lucky to have him and made the right move taking him in the draft where we did.

He does have more than his share of INTs that weren't bad plays by him. The ball off of the foot in the New Orleans game, and at least two that bounced off of Dolphins player's hands and into defenders.

 

He's making the necessary strides to be one.

Yes. He's our guy. Good QBs are hard to find. There's no doubt he's "good", working on "really good" could become "great" given some time with a consistent team/coaching

 

I think, at the very least, Miami will have an above average QB for the next decade (give or take). It not comes down to how far above average he'll be.

 

Plus the int where he was hit against the Jets.

His major issue was fumbling and it seems he's fixed it. His pocket presence looks bettee as well.

 

borderline...he'll never be peyton or brady, but he can be a top 12 qb. he can get us to the playoffs. if you're talking superbowl, i doubt it.

 

If you're top 12, year and and out, thats the defenition of franchise.

There was no Brady until there was a Brady. Point is that there's no need to put limits on players. He has shown the guile to come back from mistakes which is huge. For his development, that pick six was the perfect situation. He responded and won the game.

One thing I will say for everyone reading this watching the 9ers/Seahwaks game, you notice how Wilson struggles to make plays from the pocket? He almost invariably rolls to the right.

Agreed, while I think his potential is sky high he's not a top 5 guy or HOF guy at this point. If he works hard and gets some breaks, I do believe he could reach those heights though. If he gets Miami into the playoffs this year then the league wide perception of him will certainly be raised. I know that going into this game he'd averaged an 88 rating over the last 5 games and somebody said he had a 95.5 rating in this game. A 90 rating or so would make him top 12 QB. IMO considering the lack of a run game, he's played at a top 10 level over the last six weeks.

 

Given the situation with the running game, the pass protection issues, and the fact that he spent half his time in college playing a different position, I think he's done a hell of a job. I can easily see him being at or near top five within the next couple of seasons.

 

He just needs to keep working hard. Even Drew Brees took time to become what he is now. Given his experience I'd say he is well beyond his curb.

I see no reason he can't be a top 5 or even top 3 QB as he improves and age claims a few ahead of him.

He is definitely going to be better than guys like Dalton, Rivers, Eli and Big Ben. IMO

 

It's possible, especially since a few of the current QB's in the top 5 will probably be on the decline in the next few years (Peyton Manning, Brees, Brady all bordering on 40)

I think he has the chance. The good thing about him is that he is still growing rapidly in his ability to play the position. His pocket presence has improved as the year has went on. He's making more progressions, will be very interesting how he looks with a good offensive line. As their play has improved so has Tannehills.

He won a big game today that QB's in the past have lost, lets see what he does against the Pats.

 

If he gets somewhat better each season over the next two years, you'd even consider letting him walk as a free agent? Almost no NFL team would. He's better than Dalton, hands down. Cincy i going to give him a big contract. Its just inevitable.

I think that in as few as two seasons, Manning and Brady will be done, Big Ben and Rivers will be in decline, and Ryan will be fighting with Luck to be considered the best in the AFC. Whether he's as good as a lot of other guys who have played in the past is debatable, but as it currently stands, we're in a very good position to have a top-3 AFC QB in the near future.

 

Then he missed the playoff his second season. Then he started the 3rd 0-2...one being the massive blowout at Buffalo. A lot in NE and around the league thought he was a nice story and a fluke. 17-0 the remainder of that season and he hasn't looked back.

My point is let their careers progress before we start putting limits on their potential.

 

Too much is linked to catch phrases imo. He is this franchise's QB , and he can lead this team to wins in the playoffs. Feel very confident about that.

If that is true then we need some other things to go well , improve or be better to eventually get to and win a SB.

Like his upward trend , his demeanor , his skill set . I concentrate on other areas of this team to address rather than QB. Easily.

Not to harp on this , as it has been done this season a lot , but on that long pass to Wallace , it was not perhaps "perfect" but he put the ball in a position to be caught with a slightly better than average attempt by your premier wideout imo. Plays like that make the difference for wins and losses and elite teams make them more than not. We need to do this more consistently. We are getting better at it , but not at the needed level as of yet imo .

 

These passes require better schematics. Wallace is just too far downfield before Tannehill is ready to throw. Play fake out of the shotgun might speed it up enough.

 

Rivers and Ben are really really good (Ben more so IMO). Above guys like Eli and Dalton. There is no guarantee yet he'll be better than Ben and Rivers. If he's as good as them I'd be happy. They're right below the big guys (Rodgers, Manning, Brady Brees) in my book.

 

Yeah we can improve in that regard too , but I see that play ( and several others this year ) as ones I want to complete and I see wr's all over the league make the difference on plays like that . The pass or throw isn't very different but the wr's effort and results are. Kind of like CC finishing the td in the 4th quarter or Hartline producing a TD with a very above average effort in the ned zone along the sideline. One hand washes the other , I don't see that or haven't nearly as much from Wallace. Some is on 17 , most imo is on 11.

We get 30 , 40 , 50 % of those plays going positively we win some games we have lost.Whether Wallace can or will do that or another WR remains to be seen , but I believe we need our premier WR , our downfield receiver to make more of those plays.

 

I don't want this to get into another bogged down argument with Keith but this is why he was available in free agency. If he did all that you just stated, Pitt never would have let him go. We'll just have to work around his limitations to use his greatest asset.

 

Out of the two I'd probably take Rivers every time. Its no guarantee, just where I see him falling.

 

Understand that point , but imo it is also related to coaching or being coachable at least. That can be improved and should be. That interception was just awareness and effort , and that isn't or shouldn't be acceptable imo. Pitt does let big price players go and they have a history of finding productive wr's outside the top rounds.

We do need to get him targets where he can use , utilize his elite skills , I agree with that . More miss than hit in that regard this season. That is on coaching for the most part imo .

 

I think RT is the long term QB for sure. Will he be an elite?......probably not, but he will be even better with an improved OL and a couple more weapons. He shows a great ability to run for first downs.

 

cincy would have to be nuts to give dalton a hundred mil contract. i dont think he'll get that franchise qb money. he may get an alex smith typpe contract. so will tannehill if he isnt putting up elite stats.

 

As long as he continues to improve he will silence more of his critics as time passes.He gets better every week..
