According to Jason La Canfora we will be players for both. I think they're looking at a veteran free safety like Reed or more likely Woodson. Jones is an underrated lineman. Still think Brad Jones is a player they invest in, especially with Dansby's high number.

Ill take woodson and jones please.

Ed Reed obviously isn't the old Ed Reed but I would lose my **** if he ever became a Dolphin.

This is one of those positions I can see Ireland waiting out and picking up an inexpensive veteran. I believe he's already hinted at wanting to pick up a veteran or two.

Reed and woodson are sexier names but Jason Jones is a grinder and an agitator and every good team needs guys like this. He's hard nosed and there's nothing sexy about his game but id take him on this team any day.

Superstars, that's what smart GMs acquire when they get money.

Ed Reeds a Hall of Fame safety....
Besides whats left in his tank...wouldnt he be a great addition just to mentoring some of the younger players? -

Not sure I'm crazy about Jones if he's coming off IR with a knee injury. -
Reed could be our Darren Sharper for the Saints.
I'd heard JJ was being looked at by the Rams? IMO he is a slightly younger, less durable version of Randy Starks -
I'd tend to think Jason Jones would end up to some degree playing in Jared Odrick's role. Odrick would got to 100% DT in a 3-man rotation, and Jones would be the big end who kicks inside to tackle in Nickel.

Ed Reed has said that early in his career he always assumed he would finish his career as a Dolphin.

I would be amazed if we somehow landed ed reed but its so unlikely I won't even bother getting my hopes up but he has at least 3 years of high level play left in him

Sounds like San Fran is going to be the landing spot if these planets align correctly.

You win at free agency by signing guys and getting more than you paid, not signing guys who you are pretty much guaranteed to get less than you paid.Bpk, Stitches, unifiedtheory and 2 others like this. -
he's a grinder whose veins just pop out when, when he's grinding hard.................

Reed isn't close to the player he once was. Last season, Reed missed 15 tackles and allowed 17.3 yards per catch – both 7th-worst in the NFL among safeties. He's still a ball hawk but he's a liability in coverage. Woodson is the better player at this pointClick to expand...

I know Ed Reed is a Miami guy and most of you guys are Miami guys but Charles Woodson had a better season.Click to expand...

You need to go look at the track record of "superstars" in free agency if you think that.

I think most people would be ok with woodson as a stop gap but he has less years left than ed reed we can also most likely get the best safety in the draft at 12 if they wantedClick to expand...

But it could also signal them trying to trade Jared Odrick, as Armando suggested earlier this off season.Bpk likes this. -

while there are many more examples of FA busts who get big money, there are many examples where "superstars" do work out very well: Charles Woodson, Deion, P Manning, Reggie White, Drew Brees, Kurt Warner, Tony Gonzalez, Shannon Sharpe,Click to expand...

And it sounds like the 49ers and Ed Reed are eyeballing each other. It's hard to compete with the 49ers at the moment especially if the money is similar. Most people see them as the favorites to win the next Super Bowl.Click to expand...

I don't think a lot of those names are valid. Brees wasn't a star player by any means when he was traded, Warner was alternately as has-been or never was, others were in noted declines.Click to expand...Ohio Fanatic likes this.

Does that really happen though?
I imagine some players learn by watching a pro, but I wonder if mentoring happens the way we like to believe it does. But I don't think there's this whole taking another player under your wing thing, like in Bull Durham.Click to expand...
