"... to pursue other opportunities."
This is something of a shocker.

People still read the newspaper? I'll be damned. As for Jay, I take it ESPN will be seeing alot more of him. Can't imagine what else he could be "pursuing".
-
The online edition, at least. :wink2:
Actually, I enjoyed reading his Cubs-related columns quite a bit. -

ESPN has been snatching up all of those writers from their shows. Michael Smith, Woody Paige, J.A. Adande and others have spurned the newspapers to write for ESPN.com, The Magazine and appear almost daily on various sports talk related shows.
Marriotti will be no different.
And yes, the newspaper is a dieing business. I was talking about this the other day and I think most major papers will either be out of print, or severely scaled back by the time my generation hits its 40's ( I am 25 currently). Everyone gets their news online and through the TV now, its rendered the need for a newspaper useless. -
I don't know that I can fully express how much I dislike hearing him, and his idiot twin. Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb.
-
That show and the one during the day with ESPN's #1 idiot. Skip Brainless.Motion, alen1 and steveincolorado like this.
-
There all idiots.
-
To even put Mariotti in the same sentence as Skip Bayless could possibly be the most insulting thing ever.
Not that I like Mariotti... but Skip is on his own level of stupidity and annoyingness...Oboy likes this. -
Newspaper Are still good for packing your glasses and china when your moving.. tbh
-
and for a bird cage.....or training a puppy
-
and fish... I think...
see it had multiple uses! -
Note to sportswriters (and ESPN): the newspaper business is dying because of the content, not the format. Absorbing anti-talent from the newspaper industry does not improve your own offerings, ESPN.
-
But what will we read in the morning? Newspapers pass the time.
-
Yet I'm insulted every time either opens their trap.
-
Dan leBatard had some details...
he said that Jason Whitlock called him and told him that Mariotti threw a fit because their department had a story to do on Obama and they gave it to Rick Tellender. Mariotti threw a hissy fit and resigned on the spot.

Chicago Sun-Times Editor in Chief Michael Cooke has made a statement:
cnc66, DrAstroZoom, Mainge and 2 others like this. -
-
I do believe he is a Jets fan?:tongue2:
-
Wow. Just ... wow.

-
around the horn is easily my favorite show on tv...i wish they could only have woody, cowlishaw, gutiriezz and adande every show.
-
I dont mind Whitlock. He pulls the race card quite a bit too much though. His radio show is much better than are his tv appearances.
