Actually, this is absolute Nonesense. We already have a pretty solid Strong Safety in Reshad Jones. This makes as much sense as drafting Barkley at 12.

Clemons was a top 10 FS last year, and IMO acquiring 2 more CBs should be prioritized before FS...not to mention the fact that I've been seeing Vaccaro slip down to the late 20's-2nd round in mocks and big boards. Taking him at 12 would be incredibly stupid.

IMO, our priorities should be:

1) LT/RT
2) CB
3) DE
4) WR
5) RB
6) CB
7) FS
8) K
9) TE
10) G/C
11) SLB

 

I think it wouldn't be worthwhile to draft any safety at 12th overall. IMO, Vaccaro isn't that much better than the safeties we may be able to get in the 2nd. Is he really decidedly better than Elam, Cyprien or Reid? I don't think so.

 

I am pretty dubious about that report. I would go so far as to say that I will eat my hat if it's accurate.

 

If you read it....it's obviously bad reporting. They are linking a scheduled visit by him as saying he's a possible pick. Well duh...so is everyone else they bring in.

 

Yeah I just don't see why we would. We have 2 solid safeties. Think they'd go after an O lineman, DE, CB, or even WR (Austin?), before a safety.

 

I think this is the guy. They've been sniffing around defensive backs more than anything else. I'm not sure if you want to call him a free or a strong, but he can get his hands on the football. With one of the better secondary coaches in the league, this can be a homerun.

 

Miami is in a tough position at #12. The OTs worthy of #12 will be gone. WR has been addressed in FA. Vaccaro would be a decent pick imo. He has versatility, a hard hitter, smart. Clemons was only signed for one year as was Grimes. Makes as much sense as anyone else unless one of the OT's slip.

 

I kind of hate to say it this year, but i have a feeling about this guy. Same feeling i got about Ronnie, Ginn, Sean Smith, and Pouncey. Basically just another guy we're looking hard at that i can easily picture down here far more than anyone else. I'm not sold on him but there is a whole lot to like. Still, I'd most likely prefer another player available. Trufant even.

 

I agree. Vaccaro would be a great pick at 12 because it provides insurance in case Clemons or Jones get hurt during the season, and he's got talent enough to win the starting job.

 

After watching Vacarro all season, I wouldn't feel good about drafting this high at all. I am not sure he is an upgrade of Jones. Maybe, but I personally don't see it.

 

I don't understand people citing we have Clemons as a reason to not draft him. Clemons is signed to a 1 year deal. As soon as I heard it was a 1 year deal it made me think they are drafting someone at some point at that position with the idea of upgrading long term. Clemons is a solid safety, but he's far from the playmaker you would like to see at that position. Vaccaro isn't my top choice, but I wouldn't be upset if he were the pick and if it's not him, I would expect that they'll draft a safety early.

 

Maybe thats the guy we will be trading up for.:shifty:

TEXAS SUXS there isnt one player from Texas that is worth drafting . if we draft this guy I will come down to miami and do to Ireland what McMichael did to jason when he boxed jason's ears.

 

I'm curious, because you seem to really dislike him as a prospect, what specific areas in his game you think he struggles with that makes him such a poor selection? Considering how adamant you are that he (and Alex Okafor also apparently) isn't even worth drafting, I'm sure you have some pretty specific details about weaknesses he possesses other than 'TEXAS SUX'.

 

The Dolphins are likely looking into a Big Nickel or some other package with three safeties on the field. It's a potential solution to the problems the Patriots two tight end packages. Vaccaro is as much a slot defender as anything. I'd imagine you would see Vacarro and Jones in the base with one of the two moving to the slot while Clemons comes in for Nickel.

 

Thats a good way to go about it. The thing about going in this direction is that at some point, you'll likely have to look into drafting another safety to sit deep and clean up like Clemons likely will be asked to do.

 

I'd rather take DJ Swearinger in the 2nd or 3rd.

 

No chance in hell IMO. Without a LT on the roster, there's no way we take a player at a position where we're already fairly comfortable at. I call smokescreen.

I still say this... I wont be surprised if we use some of those later picks to move up, and take a LT

 

Vacarro would be replacing Clemons.... One thing that Vacarro brings is that he can cover the slot. Miami ranked 27th against the pass last season. If anything this shows that they're very much still in the market for help and helping out that unit may be their best bet at 12. They may feel that Vacarro is a better option at 12 than Rhodes or Truffant if the secondary is indeed the way they want to go with that pick

 

I know that Clemmons had 4 int's last year, and that's very respectable. Vaccaro is a gifted Athlete, but I don't see him playing FS.

We need help at CB MUCH more than safety. We have 2 guys that should be coming in on nickel and dime packages and a kid that was injured pretty bad last year. Not a good position to be in in today's NFL.

 

I can understand shoring up the CB position, but using the 12 pick for the sole reason of stopping NE is not a very wise thing to do IMHO.

I could see us going after a safety, but not this early in the draft. More important positions to fill, and much better talent there at 12. I pulled my hair out watching Vaccaro mis-read plays this last season. He is indeed a great athlete and a very good tackler, but he too often counted on that to bail him out after missing the initial play.

 

Yep, agreed. It's how the Giants beat the Patriots (and lots of other teams) in their 2011 superbowl run. Vaccaro would be Antrel Rolle - safety with corner skills moving down to guard a WR/TE on passing downs. Those versatile guys are hard to find. But they give you this big nickel package option, have experience deep, and provide depth/flexibility in the secondary with guys getting hurt (Antrel Rolle had to play everywhere in 2011 because of other injuries - safety, slot, boundary, sorta LB - he was the MVP of that 2011 team, imo.)

Vaccaro wouldn't be my first choice (I'd prefer pass-rush), but I get the appeal and would be down with it.

Those are honest questions. But I keep hoping that a certain cb/s had great meetings with the phins because there is only 1 of those types of players the type of production in college worthy of that high of a pick

Considering our history in the 2nd rd and we have 2, I would be willing to spend a 2 on Honey Badger and use the 12 to get elite talent at another position

I agree, wouldn't have too much of a problem. Clemons is adequate, but not much better than that, despite his numbers from PFF last year. He just is NOT a playmaker and if he was the answer that some seem to think, why is it that they only signed him to a one year contract ? That said, I'd still prefer an OT (if Johnson is available), a CB (Rhodes only at 12) or one of the DE that may slip down to us. Maybe they can fleece a trade down with Dallas and then pick Vaccarro ??

 

I think he's one of the players that fits if the strategy is to trade down and get an extra pick, and the blue chippers are off the board at 12.

 

I don't think any hole, real or perceived, at the LT spot will have any bearing on our first pick.

 

II think people need to get used to the idea that the Dolphins are potentially not going to be drafting for an immediate hole. Looking at interviews, there is a very good chance they end up with a safety or defensive tackle.

Your division goes through New England at this point in time. There are also a lot of these players, and the same mismatch problems occur.

Clemons still had twice as many as any of our CB's not named Sean Smith or Vontae Davis (That includes Grimes, who for his career has exactly.... zero INT's) . IF we bring in Vaccaro, he sure better be ready to play CB.

I don't believe it. My guess is that the first pick of the Dolphins will be an offense lineman. This is a far bigger need than the safety position at this time.

 

I too am thinking OL will be first pick. A lot of fans will be disappointed, but it's a big need.

 

Well, I can go with just about whatever they choose at #12, so long as it's not too much of a reach...Let's face it, the way this draft is shaping up, there isn't much difference in talent between #7 and #50, and we have multiple needs...You like to think that at #12, you just may get one of the top guys in the draft, but with this draft, I'd say the better talent is from 1-6...after that, it's a crap shoot...

So, in my measly little mind, a CB (Rhodes, Trufant, Hayden), OL - (Johnson, Warmack, Cooper, Fluker), TE (Eiffert, maybe Ertz?), S (Vaccarro, Elam), or even WR (Austin, Patterson, Allen)...seriously, Lotuleilei, Jones, Floyd, Mingo....all about the same talent and in play for #12...this is exactly why it's so subjective and hard to compare draft to draft... As drafts go, because of the dearth of top talent QBs, we don't stand much of a chance to get any of the elite talents in this draft, where we would in most drafts...

 

I'm not happy with any db in the first, horrible miss use of resources.
