A lot of names have been thrown around such as Chris Long, Darren McFadden, Jake Long, Matt but with this pick the Miami Dolphins should select the best player in this draft, Glenn Dorsey. Yes I did say that Dorsey is the best player in the draft over Darren McFadden and Chris Long.
Why not Darren McFadden?
-McFadden is going to be a good and maybe great NFL Running Back. With that said I am very optimistic on the return and future of Ronnie Brown. What Ronnie showed us of his shortened season was not only promising, it was MVPish. If Brown plays a whole season like he played before his injury and Tom Brady doesn't have the best season that anyone has ever had, Ronnie Brown is the MVP of the league on the worst team in the league. Wow! I think the fact that he is almost running already is indeed a very positive sign. I do not question Ronnie's durability and predict that he will be a clear cut Top 5 Running Back in the league for years to come.
Why Not Jake Long?
-Long will not be a dominant Left Tackle in the NFL. His skill set does not include that of a high caliber left tackle. Jake Long will be a Right Tackle in the NFL and #1 pick money is way too much to pay a right tackle. Jeff Otah out of Pittsburgh would b e a much better option for this team at Left Tackle. I like Long's intensity, mean streak, and strength but he just isn't blessed with the feet to make him elite.
Why Not Matt Ryan?
Ryan could become a great NFL QB but the key word is COULD. I know players such as Carson Palmer, Peyton Manning, and Big Ben have been first round picks but drafting a QB this high just scares me. If it doesn't pan out, it kills your franchise for years to come. I don't think Ryan is as good as QB Prospects over the last several years and to be honest I am not sure how much better, if any, he is than John Beck. It is not fair to give Beck a bad grade as a rookie b/c the supporting cast around him was just terrible. The one thing that was obvious is that he was not comfortable yet which caused him to fumble a few ball. Bottom Line is that ROOKIE Quarterback's turn the ball over. Let's talk about the poise he was showing against the Steelers and Eagles in their houses; not to mention that they are two of the hardest places to play in football. Let's talk about the arm strength and accuracy he portrayed against the Bengals in the 2nd half. I am sold on John beck and think he has a bright future here in Miami.
Why Not Chris Long?
Nothing really negative to say here except Dorsey's ceiling is much higher than Long's. Chris Long is an absolute machine with a non stop motor and he will cause havoc in the NFL for years to come. Being a Maryland Alumni, I know full the effects of playing against Chris Long, Al Groh even said that Long is the best player he ever coached not name Lawrence Taylor. If Not Dorsey, then long is the pick BUT ....
WHY DORSEY:
Dorsey would make an immediate impact for our team. The man demands double and in some cases triple teams and still gets to the ball. Getting sacks and tackles is not a defensive tackle's primary objective. The primary objective of the position is to eat blockers so that everyone around him can make plays. Dorsey does that better than anyone I have ever seen. He is nasty, intense, and one bad mofo. Passing on Dorsey would be a huge mistake. As far as him being an injury prone player, one injury doesn't mean your prone especially when that injury comes from an illegal chop-block. Why Dorsey? He is the best player in the draft.
Round 1: Glenn Dorsey DT LSU
Round 2(a): James Hardy WR Indiana
Round 2 (b): Dominique Rodgers Cromartie CB Tennessee State
Round 3: Martin Rucker TE Missouri
Round 4: Barry Richardson OT Clemson
Round 6: Matt Flynn QB LSU
Round 7: Andrew Bain G Miami

I cant wait till the draft is here. we've beat this to death
Sorry, had too...
The only ones worthy of the 1st pick is Dorsey, Long, and McFatty and we dont need McFatty so I dont care who we take whether is dorsey or long...
Ultimately I hope to god we can trade down* because not 1 player in this draft is worth 40 mil garuanteedLast edited: Jan 9, 2008 -

I don't see a draft with only two defensive players taken, especially after last year.
-
Glenn Dorsey makes sense to me.
I think we were ranked 30th against the run this season. -
-
-
There are no free agent DT's as good as Glenn Dorsey. Albert Haynesworth is there but is he better than Dorsey? He had a great season but where was he the rest of his career? Anyways, he is in contract negotiaions with the Titans.

I knew it was bad. I wasn't sure if we were the worst.
now we know.... -

Any scenario that DOESNT have us picking up a stud Linebacker is suicide. You think just by picking Dorsey our defense is gonna be able to stop the run?
-
Get one or two great players on D (Dorsey and a CB) and I think that will help the D immensely and allow us to continue to build the offense. -
offense - a veteran qb, a te, an OT (either left moving Carey back to right or a right) 2 guards, and a wr with size.
defense - 2 DT (yes we need 2), DE, OLB, ILB, CB,
We need a LOT of help. -
I like Dorsey, and I think without any doubt, we pick up a STUD lb in the second round. -

As you can see from my power Rankings, I am a huge fan of Vernon gholston and would not be terribly depressed if he were the pick. Bottom Line, GLENN DORSEY -
-
I am a HUGE advocate of Dorsey, and I think we Will take him...but, he is 303 playing DT in a 4-3..He is gonna probably project to DE in parnsips grand scheme, and unless he has help behind him he isnt going to be able to single-handedly stop the run.
I say that if Dan Connor or Crable are there at 32, they will also be wearing Orange and Aqua. -
Regardless of how many RBs you have its always good to have more. It is not a problem to have 2 1st tier rbs, especially when 1 has proven he cant carry the load for the entire season. If we cant trade the pick and we dont plan on picking up kevin smith then Mcfadden has my 1st vote.
I dint see much double teaming during the championship game. I saw a short slow player get blocked effectively by 1 man. I saw him jump on the ball carrier a few times after he had already been tackled. believe me the announcers wanted to call his name but didn't. Just because the press builds you up doesn't mean you are what they say you are.
If you use the #1 pick overall on a player with a history of injuries it will bite you in the end. -
Dorsey was only single blocked about a handful of times in the entire game. After the first two drives Dorsey was a non stop presence in the backfield...just because he wasn't the one making the tackles doesn't mean he wasn't making plays. Wells was constantly altering his running because of penetration by Dorsey and yes Dorsey had a sack as well on a play where his QUICK burst took him by his initial blocker as well as a player who was supposed to provide help. -

Frankly, I think it's Chris Long at the moment, barely, over Dorsey. I think Long fits the defense a little bit better, that's it. Both are amazing and high character too. I
After that, free agency is really going to impact what we do in rounds 2 or 3. I don't think we should go after any of the high priced free agents. I think Corey Williams the DT from Green Bay (a versatile guy that can play nose) ought to be the top target (if available) since he is young and has lots of good games under his belt. Bryant Johnson, I think, is the right kind of complement to Ginn running fly routes all day.
That gives us room for two things, not have to WR early (it's a weak class) and be able to focus instead on CB (it's a deep class). Why pay a guy 80 million when you can get a CB in the 2nd who would normally go in the first? -
No, re-read what I said. I am saying we pick up 1 (one) (Singular) linebacker either with the 2a or 2b...Ultimately would probably be Davis with the 2a and either Crable or Lehman with the 2b...or even Cromartie with the 2b and perhaps Bell with the 3-1..that would also work for me -
-
2a-Davis
2b-Rogers Cromartie
3-Beau Bell
?
That would be outstanding! We should prey the draft gods be so kind to us. -
:ffic:..I know its a piep dream, but stranger things have happened  -
Actually, I am more surprised at
A:McFadden being in the top 8
B: Ryan being in the top 10... -
Sorry, I watched him...closely albiet for only two games this season, but I dont get it?
I mustve missed something cause I see a "Gimmick" back that runs very upright and is going to get pulverized at the next level. I just dont think he is going to be nearly as affective in the pros.
Keep in mind, I was expecting Adrian Peterson Part II cause that was the hype I was reading in here.. What I saw was more like Adrian Peterson Part III (Right behind the Bears AP)... -
Long is my choice obviously. I've had the pleaure to watch this kid play throughout his college career being from VA, he will be a defensive captain and enforcer in this league no doubt whatsoever. I may be biased, but I want that kind of drive, talent, and heart on this team. BTW I'm not taking away anything at all from Dorsey, I just prefer Chris. Either way we can't go wrong between the two, so I will of course support our FO's decision.
