Not sure what isn't a core position. Maybe kicker? I hate to say it, but there are a lot of good O linemen who should be available at 12, but Ireland would probably get crucified if he picked one. However, who gives a s--t what most fans think? If it's best for the team and it's a great prospect, then so be it. I want someone like Austin or Eifert, but guys like Cooper could be a great fit. After the receiving group they've assembled, that would be another way to really help Tanne, but who knows. A guy like Trufant would make sense. I wish they had gone after one of the FA CBs who were available, but I guess they already shelled out a lot of dough. It is nice having a good amount of picks and options for this draft. I wonder what the deal is with Winston. I don't know what his asking price is, but with the team needing a RT and he being a zone guy, I thought it could be a good fit. I trust Philbin & Co. We'll see.

I have a feeling we are going to try to trade up for one of the top two or three tackles.

Dont think we'll move up to #4, according to the draft value chart that would cost us our 1st and both 2nd round picks. -
At some point even his obtuseness should learn his damn lesson and realize..those are NOT value positions.
This is actually a default to his norm, he said the same crap in 09, I truly hope this is a smoke screen.Phins28, finfansince72, oakelmpine and 1 other person like this. -

Why on earth does everyone want to draft Ted Ginn Jr. #2 otherwise know as Tavon Austin? We already tried fast and skinny, didn't work. If Ireland goes in the direction of adding speed hopefully he will have learned his lesson and draft a bigger athlete like Patterson.

If we're not trading up to get Milliner, we should be trading down. CB is the biggest remaining need on this team (and we need 2).

I hope it is a smokescreen. But, I've never thought much of Ireland as a deceiver around draft time. Who knows.
I have to say, watching the videos and watching games of Austin as well as the video of the WR's at WVU running routes - he dominated that, imo, with his quick cuts - I can't believe he's not going to be a great player.
I think he could do just what Welker does in terms of getting open - he just needs a bit of time to read the D and where they are going to be so he can settle in the zones. But, the difference is that if he gets a step - he could go an extra 30 above Welker. But, he also can run deep routes as those indicated to me.
If Tavon bridges the gap with a CB playing off him - then gives a spurt - who can keep up with that?
But, I know I'm overhyped about him.
Then, again, if we go "boring" in this draft and are not explosive offensively (even at that there will still be apologists) ... this will be an interesting board.Jcouch1021, Sceeto and djphinfan like this. -

I forget, how did this all play out again? That's right, Hartline got resigned for a little over $6 mill per year and Jennings didn't appear to be anything more than an afterthought (if that) if throwing Fort Knox at Wallace didn't work out.
It's be done, move on. -
QUOTE=Sceeto;2032092]You must not have watched Austin bro. Other than being fast, he is nothing like Ginn and his body type is very different. He's more compact and rounded. Not as lanky as Ginn. The league is moving in that direction. Catch up. :pointlol:[/QUOTE]
I've seen the tape. The kid can fly. I was being a little facetious in comparing him to Ginn. I knew that would irk a few who appear to get upset no matter what I say. Obviously, Austin's game is much better than Ginn...of course, Ginn is the biggest ***** to put on an NFL uniform imo. I am sure Ginn wishes he could juke like Austin.
However, his body is not all that different from Ginn. Just how different can 5'9"...174 lbs be from 5'11"...180 lbs? Not much. Austin is great in space and shifty but he is not physical. In the NFL everybody is bigger and faster so we shall see if he can hold up to that level of physicality. And we are talking about the #12 pick in the draft.
Imo #12 is too high of a pick to spend on a player a little shy of a buck and 3 quarters. And if there is a player, Cordarrelle Patterson, who is nearly as fast but is 6'2"...216 lbs and can be physical after the catch he should easily be the player to pick imo if Ireland decides to head in that direction.
And I disagree with you the league is not moving in the direction of WRs that are 5'9"...174 lbs. There may be a place for them, but in a limited role to avoid taking a pounding. The league has headed to bigger WRs who can also fly....C Johnson, D Bryant, J Jones, AJ Green, M Crabtree, D Thomas, V Cruz...not a single one under 6' or 200 lbs. Of course, Percy Harvin is 184 lbs, but then he missed 7 games last year at age 24 and averaged only 102 targets a year as a Viking.azfinfanmang likes this. -

Martin remains a huge question mark at LT, as far as I am concerned. Right now the entire right side of the offensive line needs upgrading. The only two offensive linemen I even have a great deal of faith in are Pouncey and Incognito.
Taking an offensive lineman in the first round might not be what most Dolphin fans want to see, but it would make the most sense when you consider that without upgrades in this area, Tannehill could spend a great deal of the season picking himself up off the ground.
Upgrading the secondary is also a big area of concern for the Dolphins, but I feel the offensive line is the biggest area of need at this time. -

I could have sworn I heard Philbin say BPA! If we trade up for a tackle that would just piss me off, where has drafting all these high draft choice lineman got us so far? We need playmakers, lineman can wait a round or two.
-
He said something in a manner that made it sound as if he were giving out some sort of nugget of valuable information, when instead he said possibly the most generic thing one could state about the draft. That's not bashing, criticism, complaining, whining, moaning, or blasting. That's eye-rolling. -

I see a TE being a good shot and kill me if you want, but unless one of the top 3 OL are there, I'm sure Irish would look to trade down some and take Eiffert?? Just a thought, but I'm less and less of a fan of Austin....
If I had my druthers, I wait to see if Trufant and/or Rhodes...maybe even Hayden...could be our target at #12..
But many fans have hard-ons for Ginn, jr...er I mean Austin...azfinfanmang likes this. -
Yep, this ALL of it.
After spending like they did in FA, at the positions they did, I think we can all but cross Austin off our list....and that is perfectly fine with me.
I think, like you said, if one of 3 Tackles is still there, that's a prime target. IF there is 1 of those 3 left, and Trufant is still available, that HAS to be a target. I think, maybe just maybe, Eiffert is also a possibility, but the signing of Keller and of course we still have Egnew might not push that towards the top.
Lets not forget, we are also in dire need of a pass rushing demon. There will certainly be 4 or 5 guys still there that could really come in and contribute almost every set of downs defensively. -

The thing with Ted Ginn is his talent was there, it was a question of toughness and technique.
What seperated DJackson and Knox from him is they were far tougher physically, for all of the highlight film of Austin, I've yet to see anything demonstrating how tough he is physically.
Anyone can look great accelerating in the open field, let the safety lower the boom on him and then see how he responds
