Adam Beasley ‏@AdamHBeasley 44s The Dolphins have hired Mike Tannenbaum as a consultant, one of several moves to their front office.

Anybody heard of any other moves?

Per Barry Jackson, Tannenbaum is going to consult with the Dolphins on "innovation, analytics and sports science."

Tannenbaum is currently a player agent and he will retain that role while being a consultant for Miami.

What do you make of the hiring? It's been rumored for a long while that Ross loves him some Tannenbaum.

They just got rid of one douche and just hired another. I don't mind the position, but I never liked that guy. Seemed to have that arrogant, douchey attitude. I don't know. Maybe he'll give us some inside scoop on the NJ Jerks. Doubt it. It's not a position where he is out in front, so maybe it could be good.

Knee jerk reaction. Is it automatic or do you actually put thought in to you comments?

Please detail your knowledge of the hire, what his role will be and how you reached this conclusion.

Eh. I hate him because he was a part of the Jests, but otherwise, I don't get the hate. He took a gamble with the cap and limited his window to succeed, but the Jests got pretty close to a title. A lot of teams are perpetually building for the future and never get there. Two straight AFC championship games with Sanchez as your QB means you built a pretty good roster.

I agree with this. He drafted some pretty good players and some some decent deals and gambles. As long as he's just consulting about stats, what's the big deal?

Exactly. I'd take those results from a GM compared to what we've had since the days of Jimmy Johnson. JJ's results weren't stupendous but he did get us into the playoff for 3 of 4 seasons.

As long as he steps no where near our scouting department.

He was one of the worst drafters and draft managers from 2008-12. He dwindled the Jets down to 7 total picks in 2009 and 2010 combined. He traded away 2 2nd rounders and a 3rd rounder from '09-11.... and he got nobody but Dustin Keller & Matt Slauson over 3 years from '08-10.

It appears Ross, who lives in New York, prefers former New York Jets front office personnel to former Miami Dolphin players, when it comes to hiring. Aponte worked for the Jets for 15 years and Tannebaum was fired as they GM after the 2012 season.

I'm not sure what Ross sees in these former Jets front office employees, since the Jets have only been in one Super Bowl game in their entire history. I have always felt that Ross would much rather own one of the New York teams instead of the Dolphins. Since that didn't happen, I guess he just likes having former New York people around him.

Tannebaum's draft history is a mixed bag, but he's very much got some successes as well. It's not ridiculous he be involved with an NFL franchise.

Dan Marino is totally unqualified to work in any sort of capacity evaluating personnel, regardless of how well he threw the football. Mike Tannenbaum has experiences and successes in that regard, even if he was fired.

as long as he's not our capologist we're fine... he left the Jets' in cap hell last year.. but there's no doubt he knows something about defensive talent..

It's virtually impossible to not have some draft success due to sheer probability alone. A blind person could pick randomly from a hat and still have some success. Outside of the first round, Tannenbaum's draft history was downright terrible, no mixed bag about it. Only 2 decent starters beyond the 1st round in 7 years. That aforementioned blind person could've done better.

My biggest question with Tannebaum is how much of the Jets success was due to him, and how much of it was due to Mangini and his plan? T+M was a good combo in the sense they built a very strong Jets roster that was a Vernon Gholston bust away from playing in a Superbowl with Rex Ryan as head coach.
