McFadden might not even get to play in the cotton bowl because he's getting investigated for a potential violation

22-47 . . . under 50% . . . that wasn't too good . . . he also is under 60% for the season . . . wasn't beck like over 70% . . . I dunno if that last game helped him or not . . . he still is rather inconsistent . . . but he does have the prototype body and arm for a QB.

 

Yeah, Kdawg... but that size and arm can't make him a good QB. He has to be accurrate, too. I didn't see the game, so I can't say if he's accurrate and his receivers can't catch, or if he couldn't hit a bull in the a$$ with a handful of rice. Also, what were the passes he threw? Were they good selections or does he have bad decision- making skills? Too many variables to consider without in-depth study. I really haven't heard enough good about him to make me want to select him, especially in the 1st round.

 

I think the performance of McFadden will be the main weapon we can use regarding trading our pick.

Agreed, tho he can make a bigger impact with a huge bowl game . . . . combined with a solid combine . . . I definitely can see a FEW teams taking a shot at him . . . hell we still may be one of them . . . u never know.

I saw the game last night and I ve seen about 7 of his games this year prior. To start with, the guy plays with no talent at offensive line, RB and WR. Its pretty much Matt Ryan and noone else. Even Cherilus who was a very good right tackle last year is nothing more than an average left tackle in college. With that being said Ryan is still able to produce which is a testament to his skills. As for last night's numbers, I counted the receivers dropping about eight passes that a five year old could have caught, perfectly placed, right in their hands.

The guy makes great presnap reads and will go through all of his progressions often finding a 3rd or 4th option. He has very good pocket mobility, although he's at best average as a scrambler and has an uncanny knack for creating space for himself in that pocket to buy himself time.

The guy is accurate but he's accurate in the way Brett Favre is. Every game he will go through one period where his accuracy leaves him. In other words he's a bit streaky the way Favre will get for a series or two.

He makes the right decisions for the most. His weakness presently is underneath coverage, usually the under safety. In this game he got picked by a linebacker coming across the middle from his right when he was throwing midleft. He simply never saw the guy. This is easily correctable with proper coaching. Part of the problem may reside in his pathetic pass protection which makes a QB hurry his reads for self preservation purposes. Its difficult to take that extra split second read when the price may be getting hit in the chops by a 290 lb defensive tackle

Thiss poor pass protection has lead to another correctable flaw in his game this year. He has tended to hurry his throws a bit and that has lead to throwing off his back foot more than what you would like to see. He's got the arm to get away with it but in the pros he'll need to be able to step into the pocket. When he has time and steps into his throws he throws absolute ropes

There isnt a pass he cant throw, although he doesnt have the cannon arm that Jay Cutler has. His arm strength is more like Brady's, good enough to make every throw. He also has one of the quickest releases you're going to see.

He may have a bit of a fumble problem but its hard to gauge since about half the fumbles that Ive seen him have were blind side hits that Im not sure anyone else wouldve held onto the ball. Could be a concern but I'm not sure

He has a bit of a gunslinger mentality which is needed due to his poor receivers not being able to get seperation. He will thread the ball into the tightest of spots and be successful 9 out of ten times. An example would be last night second pass on 3rd and long he through over the middle to a receiver who was blanketed by two defensive backs, one opn each side of the receiver. He put the ball about a foot off the ground in the only spot where the receiver could catch it but the defensive baks couldnt. A fantastic throw, an nfl throw, but the receiver dropped the pass. Just an incompletion on the stats but I guarantee that caused alot of scouts to smile. And I didnt even include that pass as one of the easy ones that should have been caught by his receivers.

This guy will make about four passes a game that make you just go wow. He had an Elway type pass last night where he scrambled left (remember he's right handed) and threw about a 30 to 40 yard pass across his body to the right and hit the receiver in stride. The receiver of course dropped it but it wasnt the easiest of catches because a defensive back was on him. Still an absolutely incredible pass that maybe only five NFL QBs can make

He's got the goods. What people think of him depends on how you view the few negatives he has. I think he'll be viewed much more highly by scouts, GMs and coaches than he will be by the average fan because of the belief that the flaws he has are easily correctable. A coach who can get him to read the under safety and step into his throws consistently will have found himself a very special QB.
Like Parcells said, first you have to find the talent and then you have to coach it up

Wow, everything just mentioned was Beck in college except Beck was more accurate and has a stronger arm, plus he didnt throw as many INT's.

Its funny that your mention Ryan has a weak O line and no WR's because that is exactly what Beck had this year. Kinda ironic.
Thinking Ryan would have done anything this year on the Fins then your really kidding yourself. Im not saying he wont be a good pro QB, because he might be but not worth drafting with the first pick. I dont see any upside to Ryan over Beck. Get Beck some talent around him and protection and he will probably be one of the most accurate passers in the NFL.

 

Matt Ryan has no running game to aid him..., period..., like less than a ypc average in that bowl game this week..., that's ugly and that has to be taken into consideration

I have seen a few games with him . . . .and I can't lie, I was impressed w/ some of his throws . . . but he also made some head scratching ones as well. He potentially can be a tremendous QB . . . but it does bother me how inconsistent he SEEMS to be sometimes. Maybe it is the lack of talent around him . . . I don't know . . . but to be considered #1 overall, IMO u have to put up better numbers and more consistency than what he has shown . . . but then again, I'm not a scout . . . and i can imagine they will be drooling over this kid if he has a strong combine.

I just can't see him #1 overall tho . . . but we will see . . . the Beck expectations I think have gotten lower since he has struggled in game action . . . but I still haven't given up hope . . . but if Ryan is the next stud at QB . . . we can't just look the other way, even w/ Beck.

I don't think Beck has a stronger arm than Ryan . . . thats based on the throws I have seen from both. He was much more accurate in college tho.

Beck actually had 2 very good TEs, one is on the Bengals (Daniel Coats), but your point is well taken. I don't think Ryan is a better prospect that Beck. If we must draft a QB, I'd look at Brennan,Woodson,Flaco,Henne(hey I'm a Michigan fan), and Cullen Harper if he enters (he's been told by some scouts that he'll be a first day pick. I like Ryan a lot, but I like these guys a lot too. (Did not include Brohm cause he'll for sure be gone before the 2nd round)

 

Sounds like the old Brady Quinn argument. We arent draftng him so I don't know why we bother wasting time on what he is or isn't.

 

I agree, we aren't drafting him. Besides, I think the Matt Ryan hype may be a bit overblown.

I thought Petrino would've traded up for his boy Brohm, but we all know how that panned out. The only problem is that teams know that Miami has way to many needs to fill besides RB/QB and Parcells rarely drafts a QB in the first let alone THE first. Miami needs to start smokescreening.

He's erratic the way Favre was at college. I think you nailed it. His Senior Bowl week and combine will determine how much scouts think of the guy. At the Senior Bowl he'll have talent around him and at the combine they will analyze his physical gifts. If he passes those two tests he's guaranteed top five depnding on who gets him. Could be us if Parcells decides Beck isnt the answer

 

Depends if Parcells has faith in Beck. If he doesnt he'll be considered if we cant trade down

1) Beck had exactly who at BYU?

2) Rookie WR, second-year WR with a bad case of the drops, Veteran WR that hasn't really done crap this year, backup RB, and a coach that didn't want to open up the field for the rookie. :ffic:

Another point is that Ryan averaged: 322 YPG, 2.2 TDs, & 1.4 Ints per game while Beck averaged 324 YPG, 2.2 TDs, and .7 Ints per game.

Looks like we have Ryan with less Turnovers on our team already. Statwise, anyhow...
