I expect New England to be an 8-8 team next year. Consider the following:
1. Their recent drafts have been downright Wannestedtian. Only 2 players remain from the 2006 draft (Maroney, Gotskowski). Only 1 player remains from the 2007 draft (Merriweather).
2. Their o-line cannot protect Brady. Yes, they played the Ravens, but this has been their problem all season.
3. They have NO RBs. Faulk, Morris, and Taylor are old men. Maroney is a fumble machine who isnt that good anyway.
4. Welker will miss/not be up to 100% for 2010. You don't blow out your knee making a routine cut, and make a full recovery. And I don't care how good Edelman looked on Sunday, he ain't Wes Welker.
5. No leaders on defense.
6. No pass rush all season.
7. All empires must crumble. Its simply their time.
Yes, they still have Bellicheck and Brady and Moss, but these guys had their run and now its over. Buh-bye. Thanks for playing. You got lucky in a few Super Bowls and unlucky in another.

Until i see that, i wont belive it. -
Back in 2003 or so, I learned never to count New England out of a game. Sure enough, they'd always find a way to win. But then they lost their mojo, and turned into a team that couldn't get it done in the big games.
That's sort of a microcosm of where they are as a team. We'll probably split with them from here until eternity, but they aren't a powerhouse any more.late again likes this. -

Also, having a gazillion picks means you wikk either have a gazillion rookies start, or will make 1/2 gazillion bad picks.
Signing more High-end picks means less FA money.
Moss is getting older and slower.
Brady is a shadow of his former self and got beat up A LOT.
They have NOBODY behind Brady for the future.
The O-line is getting old and slow.
-They were fortunate to play teams as they were down this year, Tenn, Atl the Jests...all at low-points of their season.
They were exposed by a good defense.
I do think they are MUCH closer to circling the drain.xphinfanx, HardKoreXXX and GARDENHEAD like this. -
I am well aware that recent picks appear to be ho-hum, but it could turn around quickly.azfinfanmang likes this. -

The Pats better start throwing some high-picks at the QB position.
Regardless of what the media says, Brady was not so great this year, and he is starting to get old, and hurt. -
i want the pats to be done more than anyone.
i would love nothing more than their drafting to be that of sloths on the football field.
i agree their concerns you posted are legit, but they have too many picks to rebound from this. they're on the mat and in a choke hold, but to me they haven't submitted yet. i'm waiting for the day. it will come. -
Towards the end of the game yesterday, they showed a couple Ravens players facing the crowd saying, "I'm sorry, but your era, is over!", and then repeating it several times

I hope you are right. But they are like coackroaches....they always seem to find a way. (at least they always do in the last 10 years)azfinfanmang likes this. -
I think it's hard to count any team out.
BUT, yesterday was such a wonderful thing to see. To see "the mighty" fall as they did was as good as us sweeping the jests this year.azfinfanmang likes this. -
To see the Randy Moss of old, you know, running his infamous "Jog" route-repeatedly was classic.
I kept waiting for Billicheat to pull him while they were down so far :lol:Ohio Fanatic and dolphindebby like this. -

I said after the 2007 season I thought they were done. They were a very old team who's gotten even older.
And yes, their drafts have been pedestrian, which is why they're starting to crumble. You mentioned the guys that are still left from past drafts, Merriweather is one of them and he looked downright horrible yesterday.
Also, I haven't heard anyone mention it, but Randy Moss looked like he gave no effort yesterday. His routes (the ones they showed replays of) were pathetic. -
You have me on ignore again :whack: -
If one looks at the patrtiots player pro moves, you have to scratch your head and say WTH?
They have an absolute glut of high picks invested in Secondary players, Merriweather, Sanders, Butler, Wheatley and a couple of other guys they invested #2 or #3 picks into, who now cannot see much playing time.
Trading Seymour for a #1 was good, however as terrible strategically as they have drafted it is no surprise they have not won a SB since 04, when Dmitroff left they just are not as sharp on the player personnel side of the ledger.
Rumor has it they may go after Julius Peppers, which they probably should do.
But still, anyone who watched them knows, a couple of sacks or hits on Brady and he loses interest quickly. -
Look at how they draft, theyve got a 1st round pick at TE who our TE out performed for the last two years now, theyve got a 1st round pick at RB who our methusela Ricky Williams out preformed, theyve got a 1st round pick at guard for the love of god. These are not 1st round positions

Even Mayo has been "Adequate" but far from spectacular.
If anybody wants more insight, I suggest going to the "Stats" of this last game at www.sportsline.com.
Some of the comments by several of their players towards the bottom is interesting.
Not nearly as cocky or arrogant as in years past.
Also, a couple of comments in there about Wilfork probably not being there next year.
That would be an absolute disaster for them. -
Moss has been around for a long time now. Multi years on three different teams i think his time is getting thin in NFL.
And GARDENHEAD is right on Welker he is not jumping back in at full speed by no means. His cuts may never be the same.
No Ginn for Brady! Last thing we need is for Brady to show us Ginn coulda been good. -

Hahahaaha. I admit it, I'm a dope!!!! New England is really good. They just crushed a horribly overrated jets team. Great teams stomp lesser opponents.
However, I'll eat my crow when/if they can beat Baltimore or Pittsburgh in the playoffs.Bpk likes this. -

Whether or not they lose in the playoffs is irrelevant to me. That's a 1-off and anything can happen. Assuming they stay the course, if any of those three teams knocks them off in the playoffs, it's an upset IMO. Not the other way around.
They are the best team in the league right now. -
Brandon Spikes just got suspended for the final four games. FWIW

This preseason I would have totally agreed with you, bud. Who knew?? -
i guess winning in the regular season wasnt enough
now what happens if they dont face each other in da playoffs

There is no team in the NFL that is dominant and unbeatable. I still remember how Peyton Hillis dragged the Pat's defenders around a couple weeks ago, but we totally shut down Hillis but somehow found a way to lose. Things change greatly from week to week.

i dont see the patriots making it through the playoffs to reach the super bowl. i think their defense is too young.
