Las Vegas apparently doesn’t believe in Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson who took the #1 spot or Miami Dolphins head coach Adam Gase whos listed as #2.
While this is just an odds site Vegas does seem to be on to things. Gase has got to get this team turned around and FAST if he has another bad year I can see him next year being on the hot seat honestly. This year he's fine ROSS seems to love the guy whos proven nothing.

I saw at least a dozen articles over the past two days saying those odds are nuts, and it sort of touches on the shady journalism/research from another topic. Plain and simple, Gase went 8-5 with his starting QB in 2016 and made the playoffs. There's no reason why he can't repeat that this year with his QB back on the field.
Also, Suh was the only "net loss" on the entire team yet we have "net gains" at O line, QB, RB, WR, LB, CB, safety and DE, plus a massive upgrade in coaching/assistants. About the only thing we didn't upgrade was the mascot.danmarino, Sceeto, Tin Indian and 3 others like this. -
Agreed. The idea that a young coach, in his third season, who is .500 overall, 8-5 with his starting QB, who made the playoffs in his first season, and then had everything in the world go wrong in his second......is somehow in danger of being fired in his third season.....is just idiotic. Especially with Ross, who is very patient, and gave Philbin so much rope, even though he showed far less than Gase has.
Now, if this season is a disaster, then Gase should go into 2019 on the hot seat, no question. But getting ahead of ourselves and expecting that is both hugely pessimistic and foolish.Claymore95, jdallen1222, Tin Indian and 2 others like this. -
They have no idea how Ross operates. Gase has this year and quite probably 2019 before he will get fired (if things go badly).

I fully agree- if Gase goes 6-10 next year, then we need to rethink some things and give the ultimatum on 2019. But you don't go from starting 2016 with a broken line to making the playoffs and then say it's all his fault for 2017 with hurricanes, hurt quarterbacks, etc.
Gase does bear some responsibility for last year because it sounds like he somewhat lost the locker room to strong personalities (Ajayi, Landry, etc). But with all the hurricane travel, no QB, no bye week, etc, it's very hard not to give him a pass anyway as a year two coach. Both Philbin and Sparano got that benefit without all the other stuff, so I can't imagine a world where Gase doesn't receive the same. The big thing to remember here is that Ross hand-picked Gase and has all the faith in the world in him, so there's very little chance one season derails that.

If Jackson goes 0-4 it's hard to see him sticking. That would include a loss to the Jets and Raiders, neither of which were good last year. That team is expected to be radically different and improved. A bad start and he is gone.
Dirk Koetter I see being vulnerable. A bad start by that team with a lack of improvement from Winston yet again?
I don't really see a ton of in-season firings though really.

I agree that Koetter should be the #1 choice for someone actually in danger. He probably should never have gotten a NFL HC job in the first place. College HC with limited success and some issues with the media while he was in his 40s. Became a NFL OC at age 48, then eventually got his first NFL HC job at 57. Seems to have issues with his locker room. And now his QB, who got away with rape while in college due to the friendly local police department and DA, has been suspended the first three games of this season for more sexual misconduct, and is likely facing a year long suspension if/when it happens again.
Even with Winston, the Bucs would have been clear under dogs in their first three games, and 4/5 to start the year. They'll be lucky if they can go to Chicago and beat an improved Bears team to start 1-4. Koetter's only saving grace is that they face a mediocre schedule out of their division, and should be in a lot of close games. I think he gets canned at the end of the year regardless, though.
I read an article just the other day that indicated he was on the short list for assistants waiting for a HC job. He's the TE and Assistant HC of the Saints now. Being associated with their prolific offense isn't likely to hurt his chances.

not necessarily. Cleveland's GM has no loyaltly to a crappy coach like Jackson. If Jackson tanks with Tyrod at QB, I can see him getting cut so the GM can restart with Baker and a new coach at the same time
In that scenario I think they'd both be looking for new jobs. Gase is Tannys 3rd head coach.
It really depends on the circumstances. If RT throws for 5000 yards and 40 touchdowns, but the team is 5-11 because they have the league's worst defense, are you cutting the quarterback?
Now, if RT is healthy but plays terrible and the team loses, then we're starting over pretty soon, yes.

I was recently talking to a journalist that was in training camp a year ago, and he told me Gase was expecting to win the division last year with Tannehill. Gase said that RT was playing "perfect" and "exactly where Gase needed him to be" with everything he did in the pocket, from reads to throws to scrambling and leadership. Gase expected RT to be an elite QB last year and had zero doubt of his abilities.
Of course, we all know he got hurt and that never happened, but RT received a year of coaching experience on the sidelines and talking with Gase as the game developed...that's priceless for a starting quarterback. And like I said in another forum, RT is already sliding in the pocket like Jay Cutler and buying more time to throw. He's seeing things that he wouldn't have seen last year thanks to that season on the bench, and Gase already thought he was incredible BEFORE that season off.
I think Tannehill is going to be simply amazing this year and I'm basing that on Gase's own words when the cameras weren't recording. He believes that he has one of the best in the league.

Because for years, people like me were in favor of starting Moore and we argued with him a lot on Tannehill. I mean, we all saw the potential but Resnor and a few others were adamant from day one that RT was a stud.

Only 2 times in NFL history has 40+ TD's not netted at least 10 wins. 1986 Marino and 2012 Brees. Brees lead the league in INT's with 19 and Marino was 2nd in INT's with 23. Marino had the 3rd worst defense and finished 8-8 and Brees had the 2nd worst defense and finished 7-9. Tannehill hasn't thrown more than 12 INT's the past 3 years.

Listen I know this is going to go against all things Ross believes in but if he wants to give the Dolphins the best chance of winning he has to pull us from these stupid London games, fight for one o’clock games early in the season and start demanding more from his staff on and off the field.
I know a lot of this is league mandated but in the past he’s offered up London and later games.
Hopefully, we won't have to put up with that BS for a while, at least. The most recent one was total garbage, but given that we'll be hosting the Super Bowl again twice in the coming years, it'll hopefully not be until we're trying to host it a third time down the road that we're forced to forfeit another game then.

It wouldnt get him fired at all if that scenario happens. With the way Ross operates i think Gase would get rewarded with an extension if he goes 6-10.
So the head coach (former successful oc) doesn’t even get some looks with baker?
The gm has already put himself in the cross hairs by drafting a qb #1 overall that doesn’t fit the prototype.
Tyrods limitations in the pocket are endless. Bakers gonna play.
I'm always trying to help people past that. The team could go 2-14 and wouldn't necessarily have a QB problem. You need to look at everything first.

why should he? all he's proven is that he was a good OC when he had a loaded offense.
Put yourself in the shoes of the new GM. You're coming into a team that has been absolutely abysmal (record wise). a portion of the blame has to go to the head coach. THis is not your head coach, you come into the job stuck with this guy.
Jackson is likely on a short leash. If Jackson's record is good with Taylor and he makes a run for the playoffs, then the GM can weigh that.
But if he stinks it up, no reason to keep him if I was the GM.
