How the hell am I tooting my own horn here? This is entertainingly hypocritical coming from the guy who's essentially already declared Fowler an elite NFL player just b/c you used a high pick on him and b/c the media & analysts say his potential is great.
So um, tell us, how did you
arrive at
your opinion that Fowler was worth the #8 pick?... you know- since you're sitting here ridiculing me for saying Newsome is worth more than the league's perceived value of him
[since most of us likely spent little time watching his tape or reading up on him b/c he plays for a team most of us don't follow closely]. It sure as heck wasn't from you going by ACTUAL NFL EXPERIENCE or an actual NFL draft.
See the hypocrisy?
You apparently can hype up Fowler as a future HOFer despite ZERO NFL experience just b/c you used the #8 pick on him, but I can't desire the perceived value to be increased of the outstanding rookie pass rusher who EASILY played at a 1st round level as a rookie. Hell, he's even surpassed the performances of many of the 1st round pass rushers drafted the past 7 or 8 years.
But yeah, I'm just tooting my own horn blah blah blah. Yup, the stats are there, the accolades are there, the grades are there, the glowing praise is there by Indy's organization and then some, and the eye test is there to support what the stats, accolades, and praise are saying.... but yup I need to ignore all of it b/c Vt_Dolfan thinks Newsome carries an entirely different value despite Vt_Dolphan likely not having done a minute's worth of research and film studying.
Now,
had you spent a minute looking into Newsome, you'd realize just how ridiculous and insulting your post is... especially when you pair it with the final sentence of my previous post that reads,
"...just as it required some due-diligence on my part to realize I have a gem of a player on my hands. Hell, even I wasn't quite aware of how high Newsome's ceiling is and how good of a pass rusher he actually is until I became the Colts GM."
I'm pretty much saying RIGHT THERE that I'm no better than anyone else, but thanx tho.
Yup yup, this is ALLLLL based on my own isolated, unshared opinion of Newsome. :001_rolleyes: I'm the only one on the planet to recognize his great rookie year......... well except for:
- the actual NFL recognizing him as the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for week 17 after a 6 tkl, 2 sack, 1 FF game.
The first sack came on 3rd & 4 w/ Tenn on Indy's 4 yard line trying to tie the score 17-17 in the 3rd qtr.
The sack forced a FG, which was missed, preserving Indy's 17-10 lead. The 2nd sack came mid 4th qtr with Tenn trying to convert a 4th down at midfield, preserving Indy's 20-10 lead.
- Newsome could've won the honor again in Week 9 on the back of a 7 tkl, 2 sack, 1 FF game against the Giants that saw his sack-strip returned to NY's 4 yard line that sealed the fate of the game and left Giants fans walking to the gate.
That's 2 games he directly impacted.... as a rookie.
- Indy's GM Ryan Grigson recognized him when saying, "If not for Jonathan Newsome, we probably don't beat Denver in the playoffs to advance to the Championship". Wups, make that 3 games he directly impacted the outcome of.... as a rookie.
- the stats themselves recognize Newsome as #4 in rookie sacks the past 3 years behind only #13 pick Aaron Donald, #5 pick Ziggy Ansah, and #15 pick Bruce Irvin.
- the stats recognize Newsome as #1 in Forced Fumbles the past 3 years among all rookie pass rushers. [he had 4 last year]
- PFF recognized him as their 37th highest rated player of the draft IIRC, equivalent to a high 2nd rounder, which obviously receives a bump in value due to the importance of position he plays.
- PFF further recognized Newsome as owning the highest Pass Rush Productivity score of any rookie edge rusher this year with at least 100 pass rush snaps.("PRP is an advanced statistic on PFF, not to be confused with a PFF "rating")
- Highest rookie PRP of any edge rusher since Aldon Smith in '11... and 2nd highest since PFF began tracking in '08.
- Higher PRP in 2014 than Robert Quinn, Clay Matthews, Mario Williams, and Jerry Hughes to name a few.
- 6 pass rush snaps shy of qualifying Top 20 PRP among all edge rushers in 2014.
- 17 teams failed to have a pass rusher with a higher PRP than Newsome.
- Top 10 in Run Stop Percentage among OLBs per PFF
- Colts Defensive Rookie of the Year with the following eulogy:
But yeah, other than all that insignificant stuff, Newsome's entire NFL value is being subjectively created by yours truly. :001_rolleyes:
Tell you what chief, why don't you take all of this information into account, spend about 20 minutes pairing it with his game tape, and then YOU tell me what his value is worth since, YET AGAIN, you seem to have such a goddam bug up your *** with my posts.
Give Newsome a draft grade and tell me where he belongs in relation to the remaining available pass rushers and that's exactly what I'll put Newsome on the block for.
If you wanna low ball it on purpose, have at it.
