I realise it's a bit early to start this debate...especially with Pat White injured and possibly out long term. There are several quality QB's available in the draft this year and with our loss today we will have the opportunity to take one of them if Parcells decides that is the way to go. I thought Tyler Thigpen did awesome today, despite losing the game with a dumb interception throwing into double coverage at the end of the game, and I am pretty sure Henne's injury is not career threatening so he will be back. Pennington is also a huge question mark on if he will even play next year.
With all of that said, what do we do?
You have to figure Henne as our #1, and Thigpen proved enough today to be our #2 (uless we trade him to move up in the draft or to secure an additional pick). I can not get Tim Tebow out of the back of my mind since his playstyle screams wildcat, or do we go a different route all together and ignore the QB situation until we talk more with Pennington?
Again, I realise it is very early and injuries will play a critical factor, but I welcome your opinions and comments.

I don't think the QB situation will change at all from what we have now. Henne will probably have the starting job at the opening of camp, with it being a competition with Thigpen. Pat White will remain as #2 on gamedays simply because of the versatility that he provides. The loser of the Henne/Thigpen battle will be the #3 on gamedays, much the same as how Henne was before Pennington got hurt.
To me, Pennington will be gone. I don't see him wanting to be a backup here, nor do I see our need for him to be with Thigpen now here. Thigpen wont be going anywhere since we just traded a draft pick for him. So, as I said, if anybody goes, its probably Pennington. Then the QB situation is the same then, as it is now.
I highly doubt we sign a QB, or draft a QB. We have far more pressing needs right now.dolfan32323 likes this. -
I have a feeling Thigpen is the number 2 after what we saw today, that is if Henne get's hurt White is not capable of replacing him. I also think we move away from the whole Wildcat as that is just so dependent on Ronnie if he get's hurt it changes our whole offense. If they are smart we will go with a conventional offense and White will move to reciever (Hopefully he is OK).

I think ALL of our QB's are not good enough to get us to the playoffs, much less the Super Bowl. We need to upgrade, yet again.

Henne went 7-6 as a starter in his first NFL season. IMHO, we have our QB. And we also have our backup in Thigpen. We will see what happens with White.

There is no situation, Henne is the guy.

Tough decision about Penny but I feel he's a goner. To bad he he doesn't stick around and get into coaching somehow.
We can't speculate on PW yet.It remains to be seen what his future will be(QB) even if he can come back healthy. -
Put another way, there are so many crying needs on this team, QB is not high on the list. -

Both who are "QBs on the rise". -
Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco STINK!!! -
1) Will Henne get any better at touch passes, at pocket awareness, at not making the once per game "wtf was he thinking!?!" throw? His rep is that ALL THREE were issues at Michigan SIX YEARS ago. If they are still issues now, I have little reason to believe he'll change in any of those categories.
2) Where do yoy think Pennington will end up?
3) If Thigpen has a great training camp would you consider letting him start the season. Let's say he plays at a 95 QB rating level through preseason and Henne is a 74 (like in 2008 AND 2009) again. I wonder how Thigpen would look with equal preparation and practice reps with first team.
Overall, I hope Henne improves. He has the greatest potential of the QBs on our roster. -

From what I saw of Thigpen last year and today, I am very comfortable with him being our #2. I also think Henne is the obvious #1. Now what happens after that is a huge question.
I really didn't like the White pick in the draft. And from what I saw today, I don't like it even more. Pat just brings nothing more to the table. If we want to run the WildCat or spread, we could be easily use Brown/Thigpen to do that (see the Hartline TD run today out of the spread). The problem really is that we spent a 2nd on White. I'd like to trade him, if it's any way possible. If not, just cut him.
With that, I think we go with a veteran backup. Pennington would be the ideal guy for this IMO. The problem obviously is whether Pennington would want to do that. If not, try to find a veteran guy that can fit in with the offense.
Bottom line for me is that #1 Henne, #2 Thigpen, #3 Pennington/veteran.Bpk likes this. -
He did win the big MNF Jets game.
I feel like the Defense lost us the Tenn and Hou games.
Henne lost us the Buffalo game, but even though it WAS big in the standings, it didn;t FEEL like a big game. It felt like a trap game heading in. -

It doesn;t waste a spot if you only carry 2 QBs anyways. just add an extra "WR" in White and have him practice at WR/Wildcat/QB/Specialty player.
In games you use him as a slash. If your first twop QBs go down, you let him play QB.
The only way it costs roster space is if you sign ANOTHER QB to carry 3 QB's PLUS White. I would just keep Henne and Thigpen and re-categorize White. -
Suppose he was willing to be a backup, would I prefer him to Thigpen? Hard to say. I think he brings a lot to the team as a leader and a worker. But Thigpen makes a lot more sense if the Wildcat is going to continue to be part of the picture.
No idea re Henne. -
don't see a QB need
we are flush @ the position
would like to see Pennington return
as a QB backup & coach
but doubt that he will
needs: ILB, PlayMaker@WR, second stud NT to anchor the 3/4 & a serious RedZone target
the IceMan made his bones & Thigpen is more than a competent backup -

Some team will give Penny a chance to be their starter and he will go there next season. In all likelihood. If nobody called though it's feasible he might come back to be the backup but they really don't need him with Thigpen around. I mean it's great to have his leadership and smarts but he'll be a huge question mark physically.

I hope Pat is okay, but after I saw the game today, I don't think he will be an NFL QB. If his player skills don't get any better, Bill and Jeff will have to admit this was a very bad mistake.

I would say Henne has MORE than proved himself to be named the starter for next season. Beating the PAtriots was a big game. Beating the Bills was a big game. SWEEPING the JETS were big games. Beating the Panthers on national TV in primetime is a big game, in my opinion.
Is he the best? No, but he is by far, our best option, and a good one at that.Rocky Raccoon and Fin-Omenal like this. -
If pat white bulks up i think he still can be productive in a wildcat/shotgun wrinkle offense if used correctly.
As for thigpen/henne, thigpen is a solid qb no question but i just find it ironic that sooo many people said before todays game that henne is our qb no question and then afterwards everyone is so hung up on thigpen. One game shouldnt make that much of a difference!!!!! Henne is our qb, no question. -
Also he lost to USC in the Rose Bowl that year.Samphin likes this. -

Saying a guy with 13 games can't win the big one is plain silly. I guess the Colts should have cut Manning after the first year, Cowboys should have cut Aikman his first year:pity:brandon27, Rocky Raccoon and Fin-Omenal like this. -

Good lord. 7-6 in his first year with several 4th quarter comebacks. Yeah, I can see how that would be proof positive we need to upgrade at QB.
