Wow!Nfl.com hates our moves so far.
I wonder where they had the eagles and the rams ranked last year before the draft?
-
The Dolphins got rid of their best player on offense and their best player on defense. They replaced their center with an inferior player and they let their very effective kicker sign with another ream.
I think the 30th ranking is about right when you compare the overall talent on their roster to the talent on other teams in the NFL. At least they should have a top 3-5 pick in the 2019 draft and hopefully they will finally be smart enough to draft a real franchise type QB with that pick.canesz06 likes this. -

After the draft we will be 32nd!!!

Nobody knows how good #17 will be after his injuries. With Suh and Landry we let qualitiy Players walk. Will Harris take the next step after a promising finish last season? Will McMillan be a factor at LB without any experience so far? A lot of ??? But I'm sure there is no way we will be No. 30 at the end of next season. Not with Howard, Tank and Lippett as promising CB, Jones as one of the best safeties, Wakes last ride to a couple of sacks, Drake as quality RB with decent hands, a deep WR Corps and an OL with young talent and experienced veterans. No. 30? No!
-
Hard to disagree with the ranking given the amount of talent that was lost and all the question marks. Let's see how all the movies pan out this fall.
-
The Dolphins didn't just "let" Landry, Suh, and Pouncey leave. And they've brought in some really good talent.
As for the 30th ranking, it seems this ranking is based solely on knowns and unknowns. Which I'm OK with. The Dolphins have changed a lot and won only 6 games last season. I think bottom of the league is fair for someone who is just going by what they see on paper.
Although, the writer seems to be all over the place with some teams. For example, he has the 49ers at 13. I'm guessing because he thinks Jimmy G. is all that? He played well in 5 games, but they only won 6 games last season too and I think banking on Garop to be a savior there is risking a lot. And KC all the way down to 18? Laughable. Chargers at 10 and Seattle 15? Yeah, this power ranking will change a lot.BicketyBam, ripper1961 and Unlucky 13 like this. -
I really don't see the point in power rankings until after week 1.Tin Indian likes this. -

He'll most likely get that $16m this year and if he continues with his absurd money demands he will find himself on the outside looking in come FA time next year. -

I don't care about the ranking but if it fires the team up then use it. Have it plastered up on the walls in the locker room. Let the team know that nobody rates them and it's on their shoulders to prove the doubters wrong.

I guess the question is where would they have ranked Philly had they predicted Wentz would do so well.danmarino likes this. -
While acknowledging how meaningless such a PR is right now ... that's just way to low.
I mean, I get that we weren't good, but there are some truly bad teams out there who have also not done much to improve. And while losing Landry hurts, I don't see how it makes us worse considering the addition of Amendola (and Wilson), adding Sitton to the line and getting Raekwon back on defense. Suh hurts, but he wasn't exactly doing a lot for us in the W column, and frees up cap space and opportunity for youth.
I have a hard time seeing how we are ranked behind, say Arizona? Why, because they added Sam "I have 2 games before my knee disintegrates" Bradford? Because they get Johnson back? Hey, we get a QB back lol. Meanwhile, they also released a top defensive player. And they play in a rougher division.
Jets and Giants? Bleh.
And the Bears? They added an injured receiver and a #3. That's pushing them up like 10 spots?
I feel this list is more about name flash than actually looking at rosters.Pauly likes this. -
Whether you agree or disagree with the Dolphins place on this list, one thing is certain - you are 100% wasting your time giving the slightest or single **** about a power ranking in March or any other month for that matter.

Here's a source that's a little harder to dismiss. Vegas has us currently tied with 5 other teams for the worst odds to win the SB at 100:1

Not sure what Vegas thought of us last year at the same time. -
I don’t agree with the departure of Suh, but his money was needed in other places.
We didn’t lose 2014 Pouncey with great power and athleticism. We lost 2017 Pouncey with reduced power in the run game and good but not great mobility and an inability to practice with his team mates during the week. We replaced him with someone cheaper, more reliable and about as effective. We also added Stitton to upgrade the weakest link of the OL.
However it all comes down to RT17. If he comes back to his pre-injury average for ‘14 to ‘16 he’s good for a 90-95 rating. Long version short that’s worth about +4 wins over last season’s QBs (just remember we outperformed our expected wins by about +2 last season).
#30 is way too low, that basically expects RT17 to perform at Cutleresque levels. Realistically we’re probably closer to #20. The potential is there to do a lot better but that depends on our ‘ifs’ turning into ‘iI told you sos’. -

Dolphins were +3000 in March, so 30:1 last year at this time:

And Philadelphia went from +450 to +600 to +1000, so 4.5:1 to 10:1 once Wentz went down:

Power rankings really don't mean anything until the 4th week of the NFL. By then, you begin getting a sense of a team's overall ability.

Most of the time, the people making those lists have a bias against the Fins. Its been that way for a long time. The team is almost always given no credit in the offseason by many. There's also been a deal for a long time that people, for whatever their reasons, can't stand that the Fins are almost always average, and never great or awful. Miami bores them, and they lash out.
-
It is playing the averages and the vaunting of established/excepted commodities.
Basically, it is surface level analysis. None of these guys watch all the teams, let alone give each an in depth analysis.
So they stick with conventional wisdom. They see a lower level team, like ours, lose 4 of our stars in Pouncey, Landry, Suh, Ajayi, and we didn't replace them with big names they instantly recognize....well...then we suck in their basic and uneducated opinions. -
I don't think it's a bias against the Fins. It's that the Phins have been that bad. Not on a Cleveland Browns level, but at a level not far behind. When teams just run all over us, gashing the defense on the ground, while our offense struggles to put together consecutive first downs, it's no wonder people would get bored at this team. Heck I've been a fan for going on 35 years and can barely stand to watch them.jdallen1222 and Nappy Roots like this. -
All of our moves were "pulling off the band aid" moments. Painful, but needed to be done. I'm not sure that we are going to be able to fill all of our holes to really make a run this year, but knowing that we aren't stuck with a ton of unmanageable contracts gives me hope that we can start fixing some major problems.
Free Agency hasn't been our friend the last couple of years. That needs to change ASAP. We need to find some solid talent at an affordable price while still making solid drafting decisions. If we do that we will be back to former glory. -

Madden football and the NFL use power rankings almost the same way.
