Caught this on the sun-sentinel a few minutes ago. It's easy for the writer to take this position due to the injury, o-line and suspect play calling at times for Brown

he has produced like an average running back, but he has the skills of an elite one....

I tend to ignore stuff like that. They don't know what he is capable of. I say he is an elite running back who hadn't had the opportunity to prove it. Now is his time and he is going to shine baby! Just watch him shut up his critics and naysayers and have a career year!!

Ah, the huge debate back on FH when Ronnie was drafted.

Blah blah blah. Ronnie isn't a star but he's certainly better than average, and I've seen more than enough to stand behind that. Like Aqua said, if he's healthy and he gets the ball, good things happen.

Was Matt Cassell worth 63 million dollars for what he has done in his career...no..
But the GM projected his talent and the system he will be playing in.. Thats what you have to do in this business sometimes, because previous stats can be misleading depending on the variables surrending him in that past.
Three things that stick out to me...4.4 ypc.... the fact that he has that ypc average all the while running behind a below average [maybe even worse} offensive line since he arrived, and, For a half of an NFL season, he was the best all aroung back in the league, on target for a 2000 total yard season. Theres 3 facts for ya.Trowa, Disnardo, Coral Reefer and 2 others like this. -

its position by position, qb being the most important, if you think you got it, you lock it up. .. running back, no different. if you have identified the player and his talent {ronnie}, have the system in place condusive to his skills {hybrid}, and said player is healthy precontract....lock him up baby. -
-
I've got 3 facts as well. :)
1. In 4 seasons he has missed 13 games total, and only played 1 full 16 game season. (That's 20% of games he has missed due to injury)
2. His best rushing total for a season is 1008 yards.
3. Three different NFL head coaches have now refused to make him the feature back. Are they all wrong?
Sometimes you need to look past "potential" and look at the production.
Let's hope he proves me wrong this year and rushes for 1500+ yards.

I don't think Ronnie is a Franchise/Elite RB
He is an elite TandemBack, has always run well in tandem
maybe this year, I say ever year
if he doesn't run like an Elite RB in every way, the big contract will elude him & we'll be in the business of drafting someone to take his place
I hope he has a tremendous season & proves he is a top-tier, top-5 RB
until now he simply hasn't done that with any consistency. He will have the ideal playing field to make his mark this year. We shall see. All he has to do is do it & every body's happy.Anonymous likes this. -

This whole argument is just so old and tired. I can't wait till Ronnie has a breakout year this season and ends this discussion once and for all.

Every running back is injury prone. You basically run into a brick wall 15 times per game.

So are offensive linemen, they run into brick walls 60 times a game. Runningbacks are wussies in comparison.GISH likes this. -
Maybe he ias average? So what? Whats wrong with being average? Not every player is going to be elite. If I had my choice between an all average team and a half elite, half subpar team- I'd choose all average hands down!

we've talked ad nauseum about many of these same points ... but i don't think any of us consider Ronnie to be an 'average' back in this league ... and i don't think too many GMs do either ....

He is an elite back but he does not have the gaudy numbers...yet.This should be the year when he will quiet the doubters.
BTW without Ronnie handling the wildcat this is an 8-8 team last year IMO.
His skill set has been under-utilized IMO.He has not been getting the carries and they have not thrown enough to him.
He is an excellent receiver and hopefully we will see him employed as a receiver more often this year. The Aqua Crush, cnc66, like2god and 1 other person like this. -

I think he is more than average but that is my opinion. He is going to show everyone how good he is and then people just my shut up and leave him alone.

You basically give credit to the stats that Matt cassell put up in new england to the variables that surrounded him, {good oline, great system, great weapons} yet your not willing to take into account those same circumstances when speaking of ronnie brown {bad oline, bad qb play, bad weapons surrounding, lack of carries, changing coaches and systems every year}. does'nt make sense to me.
If you believe in the players talent, and you understand how below average all his variables were in the past, then you should not hold that against him when projecting his future with better variables.Coral Reefer and like2god like this. -
If you want to look at average, how about look at all the running backs we had prior to RWs breakout season? Ronnie may be average (I don't think so) but he is certainly better than most of Miami's past running backs.
And the theory that all the critics will stop if Ronnie has a breakout season wont happen cause people like Omar will say it was a fluke and he hasn't done it more than one season in a row. We probably would have had Benson or Williams if we had not chosen Brown, what have they done to make them elite backs? -
His per game production is actually above average but his below average health over his career has kept his overall numbers down.
