Ryan Tannehill's TD/INT Ratio

I agree hes a rookie so expect some int's as he learns to read defenses.. However what he needs to do is stop doing it at the WORST possible times..

Tannehill looks like a keeper. But that ratio wont improve until he gets more people to throw to.

I disagree about this being the biggest reason we're 1-3.

Are you going to update your signature with Brian Hartline?

If his touchdown to int ratio was 6 to 2, I think Miami would be 3-1.

Tannehill has a lot of room for improvement. Which I am confident he will succeed.

Not being able to shut down the opposing offense late in the game is one reason. Allowing a TD on 4th and 10 in unacceptable.

Our defense not being able to stop a 4th and 10. Also our FG kicker is awful.

I disagree as well. Our defense negated those 2 INTs with 2 of their own. Last week we also Intercepted the ball twice, while only throwing one. Last 2 games INTs have been +1 for us.

When you take that out, you have the 3 fumbles and the 3 missed Field Goals separating us from a 3-1 record.

The last 2 loses are on Dan Carpenter, PERIOD.

Tannehill isnt looking outstanding but he definately is looking like he' learning fast. His play today compaired to last week and the week before is leaps and bounds.

He's making chicken salad out of chicken sh*t (our recievers) and thats commendable.

I understand your point and agree that the turnover differential has really hurt us. I don't think you can chalk up either of his picks today to the fact that he's a rookie, however. His receiver fell down on one and he got crushed on the other. Tom Brady would have thrown picks in the same circumstances.

Right, but that drive was off a turnover. And the game winning field goal was off the interception. Again, put aside whose fault the turnovers were but they killed the chances to win today.

A horrible Wr who wears #19, a below average secondary, bad playcalling late in the 4th, a kicker who used to be the reason we were ever in games who misses kicks. Tanne's gonna have INT's but he is not the reason we are losing.

It was his fault last week, but you can't blame this loss on Carpenter. He missed a 51 yard FG with plenty of time left in the game. The Dolphins were in position to win and their D couldn't get off the field.

Tanny's TD INT ratio could easily be very different. I don't think it is a very accurate reflection to his play this season.

Last week it was the inability to run the ball late. Same thing this week, but I'd say poor pass protection was equally culpable. Carpenter cant make a FG outside of 40 yards, that hurts too.

Also of those 6 INTs, you have to take into account that 2 were from tipped passes at the line; one came from a WR falling down on a comeback route; and another came from a QB hit as he threw.

That's 4 of the 6 who are more or less unlucky.

You make a good point, but keep in mind this thread isn't to lay blame on Tannehill. It's to demonstrate how important the turnover ratio - specifically the TD/INT ratio is to winning and losing. The INTs today might not have been rookie mistakes, but his ratio overall probably has something to do with him being a rookie, especially the Houston game.

I can crunch the numbers tomorrow if necessary, or you can trust me when I say TD/INT ratio is always going to correlate higher with winning than missed field goals.

He's going to throw a lot of picks and that certainly turns into bad things but he's not the only reason we are losing. We haven't had two 100 yard receivers in the same game in over a decade. Brian Hartline 245 yards of his own. I don't see Matt Moore doing that...And I still see Matt Moore throwing picks.

Yeah, but I'm not trying to blame anyone specifically for the turnovers so that's a moot point. The turnovers happened and they killed us.

Not having enough playmakers on the roster is the biggest reason we have a 1-3 record. THill will take his expected lumps this year, but he is ahead of what everyone truly thought he would be at this juncture of the season. I'm just confident that Philbin will continue to have little confidence in Jeffy. Thus going straight to Ross after our last game to get him the hell outta here.

That's an argument you can make, but I'm trying to limit it to what's happening on the football field.

The 2 picks from today werent concerning to me. His WR slips after he throws the ball, and its picked. Tanny cant do anything about that after he has already released the ball. And the other one he got hit while throwing. Neither were bad decisions, or the concerning type of INT.
