From an article about Hartline:

Can't say I am surprised by this. I am genuinely curious what Hartline grabs this season. I feel like some team will overpay for him.
-
Rosenhaus no less.
Adios BLine, Ireland should have extended him prior to the season, Bline is quite right.Bpk and oakelmpine like this. -
Like to know the numbers that insulted Hartline..

Has Ireland signed a big $$$ deal with a Rosenhaus player?
I know Ocho was a Rosenhaus guy, but he also signed a cheapy contract not a multi yr deal with a player in his prime. -
Holy crap. An actual story. Congrats, Armando!

If Hartline prices himself high the problem becomes the Dolphins can just upgrade to Greg Jennings and not have to pay much more than they'd pay for Brian Hartline.

People just "assume" he wants to come here. We thought that about Flynn too, and that didn't happen.
If we lose Hartline, that puts this team even farther in the hole. Good luck Ireland.MAFishFan, NolesNPhinsFan and Bpk like this. -
A wr corpse of Jennings/Bess/Moore is not likely to set the world alight
With Ireland running things this makes me uncomfortable, he is singularly bad and finding offensive talent.
As an aside, I mentioned he'll want 7 million per, and he probably will get it imo.
I also think he winds up in New England but for less $$$. -

At this point considering the praise I've heard come out of Greg Jennings about Joe Philbin back when he was interviewed on Finsiders when Philbin was hired, and considering Jennings' sister openly lobbying for Greg to get paid and take his talents to south beach, there's smoke here and there's also fire. If the Dolphins offer a competitive contract to Jennings I think he's theirs. -
Thanks for the memories Brian. I love the " you need it, your going to have injuries" comment. Your right BHart every team needs decent players like you that can step up in event of injury. They just can't afford to pay them like very good players.
I like Hartline but his skills are severely limited. He replaced Camarillo, which was his purpose. We need to upgrade and paying him doesn't make sense. He's allergic to the endzone. You have more a chance of scoring on an inside hand off than you do on a deep completion to Brian. Soo many times this year he's had the angle, and simply gave it up. Don't get me started on the 1 finger tackles either. I realize you need depth. I'd just much rather spend what's necessary to bring in a #1 WR, and draft a few speedsters. We can probably sign a Jered Cook or Dustin Keller with the $ Hartline has in mind ! Now those are upgrades.gunn34 likes this. -
What I notice about that article is that Brian Hartline was really upset about the offer at mid-season, and now seems to be a lot less upset. That's not coincidental. At mid-year (Week 9) coming off strong games against Oakland, Arizona and Indianapolis, Hartline had 662 yards receiving and was on his way to a 1300+ yard season. Sure he only had 1 touchdown but he had to figure more would come.
But the fact of the matter is he finished with 1083 yards and just the 1 touchdown.
In this case, unlike the Sean Smith case, I think there's a strong possibility that Brian Hartline is the one being unreasonable and that the Dolphins are actually offering Hartline what he's worth.
My estimate on the cost to keep a Brian Hartline:

-Welker wants 9 million per yr, he's 31
-Hartline wants less, he's 26
-Weakens the Dolphins further and this time they won't have to toss us a #2 and #6 pick
Bline is very much a NE type of player as well, quiet, does his job etc.oakelmpine likes this. -

Tom Brady. Bill Bellichick. I can see this happening.
Hartline probably can bust out in NE, but for sure should Davonne Bess land in the hands of the Patriots... God help us all. Our anuses are not prepared.oakelmpine likes this. -

I also think its important to keep in mind that Brian Hartline is also a Pro Bowl alternate. While that really means very little in terms of assessing someone's ability, I think its important to consider how he got to become an alternate. If it is comprised of fan votes, coach votes, and player votes, I surely don't think it was fans that put him there. Brian Hartline is the type of player coaches love, and I think that is going to get him some extra money in FA.shouright and oakelmpine like this. -
How about people are comparing probably the WR with the best balance in the league to Hartline. That is hilarious.P h i N s A N i T y likes this. -

$6M won't happen for an inconsistent, non playmaking, 1 TD per year receiver who breaks 1k yards during a season where he's essentially one of two receivers catching passes. CK's full assessment of his value was darn near spot on IMO.
A healthy 27 year old Greg Jennings might get 10M/yr. A 30 year old Jennings who has missed 13 starts the past 2 years is probably in the $7.5M ballpark. Something like 4yr $30M. -
They both had similar career arcs save for Bline playing more when he first got into the league, but Welker also handled punts.
Welker went for 600 yds, 1 td 10 ypc avg, not even Bline's numbers from this year.oakelmpine likes this. -
