Gase wasn't the only one who got interviewed twice. Ross and Tannenbaum interviewed Mike Shanahan in the regular season. December 20th I believe and then he was the first candidate to get interviewed in the offseason. And then there's rumors going around that if Tannenbaum didn't hire Gase,he would be fired. I'M NOT SAYING THESE RUMORS ARE TRUE. They come from Jason La Canfora after all.
But if they are true. Does this mean that Tannenbaum wanted experience in Mike Shanahan, but Ross forced Gase down his throat?. You're comments on this?

I would say Ross definitely wanted Gase. He said this time around he wanted to go with his gut (as opposed to the committee convincing him to hire Philbin). Maybe Gase was Tannenbaum's top choice as well but I believe Ross would have put his foot down on this decision.

I'd read that Tannenbaum wanted marrone..

I haven't seen any of that but then again I don't pay any attention to La Confora.

He would have been a good match IMO but I am intrigued with the selection of Gaze .
BTW Coughlin was also considered but in the final analysis they wanted someone who proyected into the future more. -
Agreed, I was calling for Shanahan since Joe was shown the door but deep down inside I knew it made too much sense to happen here in bizzaro world. -
-
Of course Ross had the final say over the Head Coach. He's the owner! -
-
I wanted no part of Marrone to be part of this team, a souless jerk and overall bad coach. I'm glad that Ross finally stepped in and did something that most will be happy with and went with the correct decision instead of listening to "Milk-Shake Mike"

Well if my two choices are between Shannahan and Gase I can tell you it's not a washed up old coach like Mike Shannahan. All you Shannahan supporters tell me where or when he has been successful since he left Denver?
2 Super Bowl rings nearly twenty years ago and nothing of real merit since then does nothing to make him a better choice than Gase. I'd rather go with the guy whose needle is pointing up than a guy with it pointing down. -
Shanahan and Jackon would have been infinitely better hires IMO.
-
Shanahan didn't actually do that badly in Washington. It was the FO and ownership that handicapped him severely.
Tannehill and Miller are basically made for a Shanahan offense. -
If you throw Hugh Jackson into the mix, that was my first choice. He did a good job in his one season in Oakland. It was foolish for them to let him go after one year.
Glad to see he has another chance in Cleveland. -

That is one of the few places that has been a bigger dumpster fire than Miami. -

I think he could have gone to the 49ers but didn't want to 'wait and see' then miss out as HC somewhere.
No matter how bad the Browns have been... he can come in with a new slate and his pick of two QBs available at the top of the draft. If he waited and the Giants and niners went another way. -
- Made RGIII rookie of the year and looking like a future HOF. The subsequent failures that followed were not on Shanahan.
- Drafted Kirk Cousins too, who's looking pretty good these days.
- Went 39-15 w/Jake Plummer as his starting QB
- Prior to Gase working w/Cutler in 2015, Mike Shanahan got more out of Cutler than anyone who has coached him... And that's a lot of coaches.
- Made John Elway a SB winning QB. It's not the other way around, as some might have others believe. Elway prior to Shanahan was a career 77.7 rated QB. In three seasons w/Shanahan, 89.6. And that's between the ages of 36-38 no less... He resurrected Elway's career, which had always been unimpressive IMO.
Mike Shanahan in Miami could of been interesting. He has HC experiencing. Championship success. Loves the game. Hard working and dedicated. Very knowledgeable about X's and O's. Has the contacts and credentials to build a legit coaching staff. Is a legit QB guru. Best part is, there were rumors he really liked Ryan Tannehill back in 2012. I think it's fair to say, MS should be employed by someone in this league. And I don't think he would of been a bad choice for Miami. In fact, I like him a little better than Gase because he has experience. Which isn't to say I hate Gase or anything. As I said in the Tom Coughlin thread, we could do a hell of a lot worse. And the same goes for MS. He's not the joke that some people want to make him out to be. -

How long was that offense going to last with RGIII running that way? Why would you draft cousins at that time if you were planning on having your franchise QB? Planning for injury? Planning for almost immediate QB controversy? I never understood that move but it sure worked out dandy... except for having to sit RGIII to keep from paying him even more money. Yikes.
I am not so worried about the offense- if we resign Miller to a decent contract/ if we somehow reshape the OL/ if the TE play is much better/etc. Gase might be a perfect choice.
The defense to me looks like a much more difficult project. Can't stop the run or the pass... should it be called a defense? -
Almost ten yrs since a winning season, almost two decades since winning a single playoff game, let alone go on a playoff run.
As a fan I do see some glimmers of objective hope at the skill positions, esp if Miller is resigned, though think Ajayi is going to be a player for us, and still a Tannehill fan, but "one more first time HC, this time it will work!" is asking a lot fans to buy into..again. -
It was posted on this forum that Jackson was going to take the 49er's job and that is why he wasn't interviewed by the Dolphins. This obviously was complete fiction and it now appears Jackson was bypassed because Ross and his gut had already decided on Gase.
Ross hasn't made a single hire as the owner of this team which has benefitted this team on the field since he became majority owner seven years ago. So I really don't see why anyone would expect this hire to be any better.
I am willing to see how things work out, but my expectations are starting out much lower than many of the people on here.
I will be extremely surprised if this team improved at all next year from their 6-10 record they finished with this season. -
Whether the decision turns out to be another bad one or not, that's actually a sign he may be understanding more about what it takes to succeed. Let's hope so anyway (not much else fans can do!). -
There are a lot of teams looking for a head coach right now and Mike Shanahan is still available. If he is or was that great surely he would have been picked up by now.
