I'm thinking down the road here and with Tannenbaum and Hickey well-established as the primary mover and shaker and the head of scouting, respectively....we won't be able to offer an incoming HC much choice in building this team. Not only will he take orders from a well-established front office but he will have to accept Tannehill, most of these skill-position players on offense and a large number of key defensive players.
I'm thinking that the only possible move if Philbin were to go would be the promotion of Bill Lazor. That's fine by me.
I'm just curious though, let's say Philbin is fired next year...does anyone here honestly see any way in hell that a HC would come in from outside this organization? They would have to basically be a glorified coordinator or an underqualified puppet as was Tony Sparano.
I'm thinking that there are only two possible scenarios.
(A) Stephen Ross (and maybe MT) actually do support Philbin and want him here.
or
(B) This front office already has a good feeling that Bill Lazor is the future HC of this team.

Yeah, we aren't gonna hire a guy who wants to run the whole show, but a guy who wants to coach a good team and not run the front office? I see it only being more appealing.

Seems pretty appealing for a young guy like Malzahn to come on in :shifty:

Based on the moves so far Philbin is a dead man walking. We are clearly NOT going all in to make a run his year, which is the only thing that could save Joe's job. He wasn't even at the Suh conference. Sheeeeit Ross had Sparano sit in for his own funeral so what does that tell you???

I never got the impression that he liked speaking anyways.1roberto likes this. -
My pipe dream is that things go south in New Orleans and Sean Peyton is free next year. Unlikely that it would happen, and moreso that he'd come to us.
Number two would be the same scenerio with Mike Tomlin in Pittsburgh. Looks good from the outside, but the natives are getting really restless up there. I'm from Steeler country and have a ton of relatives and friends who are Pittsburgh fans. Not that the Rooney's will be wholly swayed by public sentiment, but those guys are spoiled as Hell and think that Tomin is still riding on Cowher's coat tails.
I remain opposed to bringing in anyone who hasn't been a HC at the NFL level previously. -
Crack Mike is in charge so it depends whom he wants as a coach.
In-house I'd say Lazor.
Outside, I don't know. -

Gonna bring back Todd Bowles as HC like we should have after Sparano. I can't say i'd hate that idea either.

You guys are off your rocker.
Miami would be the most attractive head coaching spot in the NFL.
Franchise QB: Check
Franchise and future Hall of Fame Anchor of the Defense: Check
Front Office that is Bold: Check
New Stadium (essentially) : Check
South Florida: Check
Top NFL Franchise to bring Back to Glory: Check.
Any viable head coaching candidate would be DROOLING to come to Miami. -
If the Dolphins don't make the playoffs this coming season, the only person I see surviving the coming turmoil would be Tannebaum.
Ross would probably give him the authority to go out and hire the new GM and HC. If they don't make the playoffs, it will probably be because the offense did not progress in it's second year with Lazor as the OC. This would also mean that Lazor would not be the next head coach of the Dolphins.
I believe it is the playoffs in 2015 or else there will be a new GM and a complete new coaching staff in 2016. -

There is third alternative which is that eventually Mangini will be slid in as HC.He has a long association with TBaum and the later seems to be pulling the strings right now.
Ross likes Philbin but he may decide to create another job for him as he is prone to do.Lets say Vice President of field and lockeroom cleanliness for example.
Remember he offered to kick Ireland upstairs with another created job ...perhaps Vice President of protocol and good manners.....but fortunately he didnt acept.:pointlol:xphinfanx, RGF, ToddPhin and 1 other person like this. -
So, even if things go **** up, I wouldn't be surprised to see Hickey stay in place. In which case, you're talking about most of the pieces already being in place for any HC that wants to come in and entertain the notion of the job.
It just seems like nowadays virtually every coach is concerned with getting authority and power and a large say in the draft (which is totally reasonable). We don't really have "room" for that big a HC in this current structure. That's why I'm asking this question. -
Philbin is our coach get over it. I told all of you haters when ya'll thought it was a forgone conclusion he was getting fired that he would be our coach this year. What is the point of this thread? How about we get behind the coaches snd players we have set in place and look forward to next season. Let tomorrow worry about itself.

Lets think about this for a second. If the plan is to get rid of Philbin, then why did we just trade Wallace? I think it means one of two things....
1) Philbin is not going anywhere, and he did not want Wallace on his team anymore, no matter the cost.
2) Philbin is gone soon, who knows, however an even more important thing.......Drew Brees supposedly didn't like Stills....he wanted him gone....he got his wish. Why? Hes the franchise QB and the most important guy on the offense. By all accounts.....reading between the lines....Ryan Tannehill last offseason and now (twitter, instagram) this offseason is out working extra with the likes of Landry, Matthews, etc.....Wallace was never at those work outs...last year or this. There is no secret Wallace and Tannehill had a very bad chemistry.....RT never had a problem hitting Hartline deep....Sims deep....Landry deep....Matthews or Gibson deep.....just Wallace he had issues with. I think there is a correlation there. Someone posted on twitter this morning RT's first year with Wallace had the same completion % on deep balls as Big Ben had with him his last year.......now....go back to week 17 of this past season:
We drive 90 something yards, Tannehill is knocked on his *** no less than 3 times, hard as hell, his white jersey is filthy almost like an art piece of his rough first half on display for all to see, but hes tough, hes completing passes, hes working us down the field, we go the length of the stadium and score a touch down, going into half time with momentum....I remember watching him vividly afterwards.....hes on the sideline....camera zooms in....hes happy that they fought so hard....hes taking a drink of water.....all of a sudden our WR coach comes up to our young leader and says something....along the lines of "Wallace isnt happy hes not being targeted at all"....you see Tannehills eyes fill with rage.....an almost "this guy can't be ****ing serious" look to his face....he yells something, throwing his arm in the air.....fast forward a couple of seconds....theres Philbin with Wallace pouting like a little 6 year old I coached this season because he had to play right tackle instead of running back cause his mommy said he will be the next Jonathan Stewart. But who else is with those two? That same WR coach who was talking to Tannehill.....
Guys...I think not only is Tannehill our franchise QB. Not only is he getting an extension and will be playing with us for a long time....but I think he has enough....dare I say...Drew Brees pull....to go to the guys and say "Get this **** off my team, I don't want to deal with him anymore".....and they obliged.
Sure RT says the right things in the media, that his job, but I don't think there is any doubt, in any workplace, let alone the adrenaline, aggressive professional sport of football, where that type of cancer wouldn't lead to one of the managers, top dogs, supervisors etc....going to corporate with a complaint asking for that persons removal.
I believe that is what happened here.xphinfanx, Hellion and Larryfinfan like this. -

But, my biggest fear is that Philbo uses this new talent and ends up sticking around for a while.... And if that happens, and the O progresses like it did last year, Lazor will be gone, one way or another... -
I can see a situation where if Philbin continues a habit of bad game management or conservative calls by over riding Lazor and continuing to put the team in bad positions to win games that he could be let go and Lazor replacing him as the best in house option.
They hired Lazor to run the offense let him run it. Trust the people you hire until you can't, don't micro manage because you'll never know what you have in your personnel.
