Accuracy is the overarching factor, for all routes. Now deeper throws would require both velocity and accuracy ( skinny post for example).

The bills played a lot of man coverage with trail techique. Henne didn't accuratley drop the ball over the top of the defender. But on the plus side he did seem to read the defense fairly well. From what I could tell.

 

It's a function of not calling good enough passing plays and not having quality WR's who can get open on a consistent basis.


Here is an idea I've seen thrown around(pun intended) by NFL teams since I started watching football.

Throw the F***** ball over the middle of the field.

 

Simple, as I said before, because of Pennington's lack of arm strength, opposing defenses weren't concerned with long passes, so they tightened up on receivers giving them less room to work....meaning fewer YAC. I saw Pennington make some nice throws, but the defender was always right there to make the tackle. Pennington was a very accurate and efficient QB, but it came at a price (distance) and that allowed defenses to play closer and just worry about the plays infront of them. :wink2:

 

I was never impressed with Pennington's ability to hit wide receivers in the right spot to help them gain yards after the catch.

It's true, a WR will never make an impact around here until we can find a QB like Kyle Orton.... :lol:

 

Curl routes don't really generate YAC.
When 90% of your outside routes are curl routes, there's your answer.

 

I actually REALLY like Kyle as a QB and always have. He should have been starting for the Bears instead of Grossman. The problem is they NEVER let him work through his rookie and young career mistakes. Now that he is in Denver he is playing very well.

 

He's not bad......but he's probably closer to being average than he is to being good.

yeah, pennington was accurate, but comeback routes leave little room for YAC. too bad we dont throw posts or slants.

 

I just stated what I saw. I didn't say he is a bust and we should put in pat white. So I wasn't judging him.

Also Henne threw the ball in many games and just because they weren't starts doesn't make them irrelevant.

Pennington was horrible at placing a ball for YAC. Looking at Ginn's best game (buffalo) a lot of the balls were underthrown or took a little longer to get there. Even the WC throw to Cobbs last year when Cobbs was buck naked was underthrown, Cobbs had to hold up for quite a bit waiting for it.

 

I will be VERY dissappointed if we even THINK of getting TO. HE is a drop machine......with an attitude. No thanks.

The Dolphins had good, though not great, YAC with Pennington last year. Receivers had good YAC with him his whole career. Look it up.

They didn't have it this year in 2 1/2 games with Pennington, for whatever reason. Whether it would have changed if he had stayed healthy we'll never know. Let's hope it changes with Henne.

 

To tell you the truth, every single passing stat suffered this year, from top to bottom. QBR, YPA, everything. Was down. Our passing offense just plain sucked.
