JOE PHILBIN
As usual, no great pearls of insight from the head coach or any shred of visible disappointment or anger about the four-game losing streak. Among Philbin’s musings:
“I have a lot of faith in our guys. I believe in them.”
Asked why the team went away from the running game in the second half, Philbin said: “I don’t know that we went totally away from the run.” The Dolphins had 21 carries in the first half, 9 in the second half.
Philbin blamed the defense’s problem on “missed tackles here and there” and the fact on “a couple occasions, our gap integrity wasn’t what it needed to be.”
On Mike Wallace: “I like what Mike’s done. To get the ball thrown with distance down the field requires precision by the route running and the quarterback and a certain amount of time to get the ball down the field. I would love to have more lengthy touchdown passes and I’m confident we’ll get more out of them as the season unfolds. Things take time.”

Such a load of crap.. This is all coach speak Im not sure why they have presser's if your never going to get real answers. For once I would like the Coach to come out and say you know what we called a bad second half, our players made some mistakes and that cost us the game.

he's a rock, he's been a rock. He's not too high after a win and not too low after a loss. Funny... BB sounds even more monotone in his press conferences. Don't hear anyone complaining about him being a HC and that he should return to being a DC... well, when he first started head coaching perhaps back with the Browns.

oh so this is what you guys want from Philbin... presenting coach Joe EPhilbin
Q: What is up with Mike Pouncey, big national story out here, are you going to comment on it, what's his status with the team?
A: Well it looks like Mike is getting ****ed by the Massachusetts police. To be approached after a loss... talk about kicking us while we are down.
Q: How do you explain the difference between first and second half yesterday, what's happening?
A: It doesn't help that Mike Sherman has pictures of me when I was a child in his safe deposit box. There's nothing I can do. My hands are tied with him as the OC.
Q: How come Dion Jordan isn't playing more?
A: Well, he's a rookie. I can't put rookies out there that fast unless they play on offensive line. Then they start. Unless you are Dallas Thomas and just flat out suck beyond repair. Dion has made plays... impact plays. But we have to save him for the playoffs. Don't want him to get hurt again.
Q: But you won't even make the playoffs at this rate?
A: How dare you?
Q: The penalty calls yesterday and questionable non calls, what can you say about them?
A: If Goodell wasn't listening right now, I'd say they were flat out bull **** calls... BULL **** Calls. But I can't say that because I'll be fined and money doesn't grow on trees, unless you are Mike Wallace.
Q: Speaking of Wallace, how do you devise a play to get him the ball deep?
A: Well, it's a lot of moving parts out there, qb's need time, got to be accurate, receiver has to run a good route. Sherman has to forget he is no longer at Texas A & M afraid to be sacked by their AD. Everything has to come together.
Q: How do you replace a player the caliber of Brandon Gibson?
A: You don't, we are in big trouble. If I were Tannehill, I'd fake an injury.evz, Rocky Raccoon, maynard and 4 others like this. -

He has had great results with the Patriots and therefore he is seen as a great HC.
Philbin's results so far remind us of the results Belichick had with the Browns and not with the Patriots. I believe he deserves the right to see how the rest of this season plays out, but anything below a 9-7 season this year would have to put him on the hot seat as this teams HC beyond this season. Especially if Ireland is fired and a new GM is hired for next season. -
You can tell how frustrated Philbin is because he's completely clammed up to the press. When he's loose, he tends to be very honest and explanatory, and there's always good content in what he's saying. Right about now, there's nothing. And some of the answers seem almost explicit untruths.

Q: After a 3-4 start, do you think your team has a chance at the playoffs?
A: Playoffs?! You kidding me? Playoffs?! Don't talk about playoffs! I just wish we could win a game! ...Another game!Mcduffie81, Rocky Raccoon and Paul 13 like this. -

Omar: Coach, things looked pretty bad out there in the 2nd half as things began to unravel.
A: You guys really don't know when it's good or bad, when it comes right down to it. I promise you right now, you don't know when it's good or bad, you really don't know, because you don't know what we're trying to do, you guys don't look at the films, you don't know what happened. You really don't know, you think you know, but you don't know...and you never will. Ok? Just for your own...information. Sometimes I can tell ya it won't be good and you see it won't be good. sometimes you'll think it's good, and it isn't any good. Sometimes you may think it's bad and it was pretty darned good. Sometimes you may think it's bad and it was bad. But basically, you really don't know. The only people that really know are our coaches. And that goes with run blocking, pass defense, all those things. The media, the public doesn't know, you guys don't know, not really, no.GMJohnson, Paul 13 and MikeHoncho like this. -
Calling Egnew an ostrich just seems so...right.

Adam Beasley and Philbin had a little bit of a heated exchange during the presser and I have to say that it was kinda cool to see Philbin remain calm while he was getting grilled by Beasley.

Egnew stood out for me in the Pats game, I thought he had his best game as a Dolphin. I can recall at least two blocks that sprung Miller for bigger gains, and he had the one catch that went for a first down. If Sherman is impressed by him and is then inclined to get him more involved in the passing game we could have a decent player there after all. -

That's not what he meant.
“A couple weeks ago we didn’t have a fullback and we were kind of one dimensional,” Sherman said. “The further your hips are from the ground, the tougher it is to play fullback in my mind. Mike’s like an ostrich type of guy. You don’t see many ostrich’s playing fullback. Literally, his hips are that high off the ground, but that son of a gun has become a tough guy. He’s like shot out of a cannon. He made some really, really good blocks in the game.”
