Such a load of crap.. This is all coach speak Im not sure why they have presser's if your never going to get real answers. For once I would like the Coach to come out and say you know what we called a bad second half, our players made some mistakes and that cost us the game.

It's a must win on Thursday, they get that win, then they can justify that they didn't panic and are ready to take on the 2nd half of the season..and a new season it will be starting in Tampa.

When Philbin wins three SB's and wins the AFC East division 10 out of 11 years, I'm sure he will be treated just like Belichick. Until then, a 10-13 record over the last year and seven games doesn't merit Philbin the same regard from the fans that Belichick has earned in New England. Fair or not, that's just the way it is.

 

They went up there last year and beat the Bengals in their stadium. This is suppose to be a better and more talented Dolphin team. So there is absolutely no excuses for them to lose to the Bengals this Thursday on their home field. A win Thursday is an absolute must or this season will basically be over as far as the playoffs is concerned. The only thing that will matter if they lose Thursday is, where will they select in the 2014 draft and who will be the new GM making those selections.

 

Personally I don't care how a coach sounds on or off the field. All I care about is the results on the field. Belichick had poor results on the field as the HC of the Browns and he was fired because of these results.
He has had great results with the Patriots and therefore he is seen as a great HC.

Philbin's results so far remind us of the results Belichick had with the Browns and not with the Patriots. I believe he deserves the right to see how the rest of this season plays out, but anything below a 9-7 season this year would have to put him on the hot seat as this teams HC beyond this season. Especially if Ireland is fired and a new GM is hired for next season.

 

You can tell how frustrated Philbin is because he's completely clammed up to the press. When he's loose, he tends to be very honest and explanatory, and there's always good content in what he's saying. Right about now, there's nothing. And some of the answers seem almost explicit untruths.

 

It's something that has gone a bit under the radar, but Michael Egnew has quietly turned into a pretty good blocker, and at fullback no less. Which like Sherman was mentioning (I think) with the Ostrich comments, is kind of strange for a 6'5" guy, especially one who was basically a giant slot receiver in college.

Philbin saying he doesn't think they went away from the run game in the 2nd half reminds me of a certain fella telling the world there were no troops in Baghdad.

 

yeah I just assumed he meant long legs/high center of gravity. Though there could be a double meaning there with Eggnog putting his head in the sand as a rookie. Who knows lol.

Adam Beasley and Philbin had a little bit of a heated exchange during the presser and I have to say that it was kinda cool to see Philbin remain calm while he was getting grilled by Beasley.

 

yeah from what I've seen he's got a strong initial pop to him, keeps his big frame low, and has the balance and technique to stay on blocks. I thought he was an integral part of our run success yesterday. Plus what helps is I think he takes some real joy in winning these blocking matchups and planting a defender on his *** or driving him out of the play. Seems more than just going through the motions; seems like there's some passion to it with the mean streak he blocks with. I'm guessing the MMA stuff helped in this regard. Perhaps it created a mindset that winning a block is akin to an MMA match.

That's what I took from it, that he was scared and hid from confrontation initially. Calling him an ostrich is pretty harsh, but then saying he's overcome his natural inclination by stepping up, playing at fullback and pulling off some nice blocks is giving him high praise.

Egnew stood out for me in the Pats game, I thought he had his best game as a Dolphin. I can recall at least two blocks that sprung Miller for bigger gains, and he had the one catch that went for a first down. If Sherman is impressed by him and is then inclined to get him more involved in the passing game we could have a decent player there after all.

 

I think the thing with Belichek vs Philbin is that Belichek has a history of making adjustments and kicking peoples *** and motivating them to succeed. I think "coach speak" with Philbin is all he's really got... Ho hum, slow and steady.
