When I read about how good rookies look in these rookie camps, I always remember what Jim Mandich said several years ago. He stated, " it is easy to look great when you are running around in shorts and no one is hitting you". Mandich pointed out that the difference between looking great in shorts and being great once the hitting starts, is what separates the true NFL players from those who merely look the part during these rookie sessions.

Hopefully a few of these rookies will work out and eventually become solid players for the Dolphins. Unfortunately the vast majority of the rookies in this camp will be nothing but a footnote in Dolphin history, once the regular season kicks off in September.

 

Do most clubs close their rookie camps to the fans and media? I wonder. I wonder how long it will take to find out if any of the rookie tryouts make it.

Most of these guys are just bodies who won't even see preaseason action. However I do think if a guy has college tape you like and he performs well in this camp it gives him a punchers chance at the practice squad

It is super early, but the descriptions popping up about Tripp sound an awful lot like Thomas.

 

Stranger things have happened...and while I'm not counting on it, a re-birth of HoF MLB play for the Dolphins would be an amazing, welcomed sight. I can't see it from anybody in uniform last year.

 

The thing is, we all know this. I don't see any member of this board that doesn't know this.

Saying that, I wonder who is going to win the Brian Manning Award.

Micajah Reynolds has been signed by Dolphins according to a source on twitter. Trying to get other verifying information. He is a guy that reminds you of a space eater. He is stout at the point of attack. Some have pointed out there seems to be an element on the defensive line missing that would protect linebackers. A guy like Bowens or Soliai. Reynolds is more like them than Anthony Johnson, Mitchell, or Francis.

 

He moves well for his size.

I don't think they're going to want guys you would consider "space-eaters". You can run this(and most) defenses just fine without one. They're gonna want someone who can run stunts, cross the face of a center, pursue down the line on outside runs. They're not going to replace Paul Soliai with a guy like him.
