Yeah, Tannehill doesn't have the timing needed for our offense. And if he doesn't make his read within ~3 seconds, I don't know if he's going to stay alive behind our line.

How come you guys don't believe that if Tannehill had a coach that believed in him, and crafted things specifically for him, that he couldn't be successful here?

 

OMG.. this again? Tannehill had everything he could ask for, essentially an all-star surrounding cast in Tennessee, surprised everyone by playing elite 2 years but then reverted to what we all know about him: a QB that cannot carry his team when the team is doing poorly. Had a chance to take a #1 seed to the SB and crapped in the playoffs. You CANNOT have that kind of QB to have any kind of decent chance to win the SB.

Tannehill in years 3-4 in Tennessee was merely average, and last year was well below average. Over his entire career he's just a slightly above average QB. That's not the kind of QB you want on a team. Even as a backup he has the wrong skillset for this offense. Getting rid of Tannehill (which happened way too late) was one of the best things this team has done in the last 10 years.

 

Yeah he had a wonderful situation. He had the same ****ty issues that Tua had his first couple seasons, minus injuries, and you guys never excused anything.

I can't believe you're going to bring up the #1 seed **** when I've heard every excuse in the book for the Dolphins this year losing the #1 seed, and backing in to the playoffs.

And you're seriously gonna compare Gase to McDaniel?

Like, yeah let's compare the end of an older QB career to the beginning of a young guys. Like there are so many reasons for an older player to decline it's completely disingenuous to even try to make that argument.

 

We weren't the #1 seed. The Titans were. BIG difference.

And Gase was trumpeted here by many (not me) as the right coach for Tannehill, one that finally believed in him etc. with all that nonsense. Sorry he didn't pan out. But if you're a Dolphins fan (and you are) you should be very happy we got rid of Tannehill.

LOL!! YOU are the one that made that comparison. You asked whether Tannehill TODAY would be successful here with the right coach (i.e., McDaniel). So you are the one that created the "disingenuous" comparison. Good job lol.

 

The way some of you are poo pooing this you would think they were talking about bringing him in to replace Tua. Is Tannehill good enough as a starter? No. He's proven that over his career. That said, he can absolutely be a reliable backup in this league and probably an improvement over the current backups on the roster.

 

Not a good fit for this offense. You can expect below average performance when the offense isn’t tailored around him. No as a backup.

 

I'd rather keep Skylar.

 

That's where I'm at. Solid backup and big upgrade from Mike White.

 

I would think most fans would prefer Tannehill over Mike White or Skylar Thompson.

God forbid Tua goes down. Then some may rethink their stance on Tannehill.

Someone will sign Tannehill. He is just waiting for a call when some teams QB goes down in camp.

Tannehill has a winning record and 2 playoff wins.

And you don't think McDaniel would tweak things for Tannehill? I think Tannehill could function just fine in the offense. I'm not sure he could handle the oline.

 

We didn't have the #1 seed. HUGE difference. That's not semantics. That's a major difference in how strong the team is. And what's really not productive is acting like our team last year was anything close to the Titans #1 seed team that Tannehill helped tank in the playoffs. Really no comparison.

Not as a backup. This is a very different kind of offense. You'd need to build something for Tannehill like what he had with the Titans. And we know how that went.

 

Yeah, RT would probably do no better than Skyler or White as a backup. This offense doesn’t really fit any of these three, but at least Skylar and White have some experience in it. Not to mention that RT would most likely cost more.

Keep in mind, I am a Tannehill fan and one of the few defenders of him during his tenure here. That being said…

Unless the Dolphins made a conscious effort to upgrade our OL, Tannehill would falter in this offense. RT needs a line that’s going to give him a consistent 4 second window to throw, every time. RT held the ball often too many times taking a league high number of sacks while in Miami.

That’s not to say RT is/was a BAD quarterback. Not at all. He had a fun, tough as nails and could make the plays needed…when he had the time, but he never had the time, nor the running game in Miami that he had with the Titans.

I just don’t think after so many years of habit playing RT could change on a dime and play an offense that requires quick processing, quick decisions and precision passes.

Had Tannehill had McDaniel as an OC his rookie year, who knows?

 

You are correct sir. Ryan Tannehill would be a quality backup for Tua. Fans and alike, only worry about backups when there are injuries, then they complain that the GM didn't have a backup good enough to win games while Tua is out.

Ryan Tannehill is a cat that could get the Dolphins through a tough spot for a few games if Tua goes down.

And I thank you for giving me my first like since I have been on this site. It takes real guts to support the apparent "public enemy #1" around here. I appreciate that!

Again, as I've said numerous times, I like posts where I think a valid point or argument is made, it has nothing to do with whether or not I agree with their overall position or anything like that.

I can't help that you or others choose to use the Like system as a popularity contest, just liking posts of people you agree with.

 

Also, what do you disagree with IN THE POST that I liked? How about addressing content not *****ing about posters?

I thought he made some good points in that post, so I liked it.

The problem is that you often think troll posts are valid arguments even if the claims are provably false. This goes back MANY years, from Fin-D to StaleTacos. It's worth pointing out to yet another poster whose posting style is better described as trolling.

 

You might prefer Tannehill, but you can clearly see in this thread alone that it's totally not true that "most fans would prefer Tannehill over Mike White or Skylar Thompson" (the claim I disagree with) for the reasons already posted.

 

I think the problem is you and your inability to ever see a point of view that differs from yours. FinD was not a troll, and it's actually disturbing that you trot him out all the time when he hasn't been on this site in literally years. Probably close to a decade.

 

FinD was the biggest troll this site has ever known. There's a very good reason why he was banned. It says a lot you don't think he was a troll. I trot him out because I remember how the two of you posted together. There was no such thing you as caring about the validity of his arguments, unlike what you claim about what kinds of posts you "like".

I don't care if you were friends with him. I would be disappointed if you think he wasn't a troll. Site got immensely better after he was banned.

 

He was not, I knew him for 15 years, he was a fine human being, a complex gentle soul who devoted his life in saving and housing abused animals.

He was happily married, children and a good father.

Just because you could not communicate with him on some level doesn’t mean he is what you say, there are many levels to human beings as you know CB, sometimes we all can miss on our judgement of someone if we don’t really know the person, especially on a forum.

 

Fine, but that means you're being completely hypocritical when you label guys like StaleTacos, Sceeto and hitman8 trolls. There's no definition of trolling behavior that would include those 3 but exclude Fin D. And how do you know those three aren't fine human beings in person? People can be very different online than in person.

One thing is clear: this board had a LOT less vitriol after Fin D was banned. That can't be argued. Either way, you really shouldn't complain about anyone here being a troll if you can't accept Fin D satisfying the criteria you're applying to them.

A decade? FinD stopped posting here about 3-4 years ago.

 

FinD loved to rile people up, so in that I guess he could be labeled as a “troll”. But he is a huge Dolphins fan and I got along with him very well even though he and I disagreed on a lot. He’s nothing like those others you mentioned because they are clearly not Dolphins fans.

 

StaleTacos is a question mark, but I'm pretty sure Sceeto and hitman8 are Dolphins fans even if Sceeto adds nearly nothing to the site and hitman8 is about as stubborn as it gets in holding onto an opinion. I wouldn't mistake their dislike of Tua with not being a Dolphins fan.

 

Ask the Titans. - LOL

 

What about years one & two, you know, before they lost a lot of good players in FA. - LOL
