Interesting article that proves Lamar Miller isn't a every down work horse RB and probably never will be, despite him having a better year as far as avg goes, his chronic shoulder issues (which I already think was a reason why he gets a low carry count per game) and now the fact that after his 10th carry in games he gets substantially worse, we need a work horse type RB in our backfield... Lamar is a solid change of pace back.

Not sure that article proves anything. Again, it's not like Miller is out there by himself. There are a myriad of factors that come into play for him to successful.

@Resnor, I am assuming you didn't read the article then, I'm done playing your 'myriad of factors' game, the article clearly tells you after his 10th carry he is a tired running back, but of course you of all people will turn it into something else because you know more about football then everyone else.
@LBsFinest, I dont know if you were joking or not, but we can def. use a work horse running back and I would love to get Melvin Gordon, he would be able to put a lot makeup on our identity-less offense. Also, drafting Melvin Gordon only solves half of the problem, the other half is switching our scheme to a power run offense, RT would benefit from the scheme greatly. -
It's most certainly a variety of factors, not simply a deficiency in Miller.
Something goes wrong, Philbin gets queasy, and then the Dolphins basically turtle offensively in a fashion that is very predictable and makes it easy for teams to play the run and short pass very aggressively. Miller ends up getting run in a very predictable fashion, and frequently gets stuffed.
At the end of the day I would like to see Miller platooned with a power-oriented back, but I think the bigger issue is simply getting a coaching staff that isn't afraid of their own shadow.Pandarilla, miamiron and resnor like this. -

Good lawd this is so obvious if you can't catch on maybe try another sport.
Miller is complimentary back, not a 18-25 carry player. Those are his limitations and the staff has to work within them. Unfortunately Moreno is hurt, DT & DW aren't effective so it falls on Tannehill to carry the offense. It's been that way virtually all year. Then Albert gets hurt and RT has to carry the O without good pass pro, something he's not good enough to do at this point.DolphinGreg and djphinfan like this. -
I really thought Williams showed some good stuff in the Detroit game, but not too many touches and his drops sure didn't endear him to the staff.
I missed the Pats game. How bad was that drop? -

I like Miller and think he can be a useful weapon going forward, but he needs a reliable power back to be paired with.
It started out perfectly with him and Moreno...77FinFan likes this. -
I thought he should have been getting DT's touches. -
The much more obvious answer is that we can't run with authrority and impose our will when we need to. As our rushing attempts go up, our efficiency goes down. Especially since Albert went down.
Also doesn't help when we dont (or our QB isn't allowed to) audible out of bad running plays. Omar had some good examples on twitter after the Ravens game. -

I would rather have neither Gurley or Gordon honestly.

The ball was perfectly thrown to Williams in stride and he flat dropped it. It was a choke job. He was wide open a few years from the goal line.
I think it's safe to say that it was the "ugliest" or "clearest" drop of the year. Even an average RB like Williams probably catches that ball 4 times out of 5.resnor likes this. -
Some people think that when a stat says "Miller average 2.5 ypc" that it's a Lamar Miller stat.
It's not, it's a running game statistic.
You cannot use a system-level statistic as the basis for component-level discussion.resnor likes this. -
You just like to argue for the sake of argument I can see. If it was another poster (Resnor) that brought up this article you would be in agreement, but since it was me you wanna argue, if I said the sky was blue you would tell me it's pink. -

I don't have any allies on here. It's just a chat forum. Don't take stuff so personally. I have no f'ing idea who you are.
It's the friendships and cliques that are annoying as hell.
I'm sure I agree with you on lots of stuff.
In general though, Miller is a smaller back and during the course of games, its the physicality that Miller doesn't have--and more importantly that our O-line lacks--that brings down Miller's statline.
I like Miller but he's a smaller, faster back, not a thumper whose going to max out in the 4th quarter.
And seriously...a RBs ypc is the result of 11 guys so how is it not a system-level stat? -
We just need a power back to compliment Miller. Bring Moreno and Williams back.
-
Not sure I'm interested in Moreno coming off the injury. That scares me and he probably won't be ready for the start of the season anyway.
I say we still need a big, strong, physical runner who can pass protect.
