Tua definitely got blasted, but nothing outrageous. QBs take hits like that every week. But Tua got carted off the field.
Those questioning his durability pre-draft may have been into something. Sheesh.

It was an unblocked 280 lb lineman from the blind side. Give me a break.

I’ll never understand the decision to draft him. He had a history of injuries in college and it doesn’t get any better in the NFL, especially when you’re undersized.

Not sure why the personal attack. I’m not trying to be a tough guy. I’m not a tough guy. I’ve watched enough football to know Tua is just plain soft. -
I've been a staunch Tua believer, but the Bills game from last season put everything on hold. Then he gets knocked out of this game. I've seen enough. I want to believe in him, I want him to be great, but I don't think it's going to happen. He doesn't play like a great QB. I watched Derek Carr last week against Baltimore and then today against Pittsburgh. He's a gutsy underrated quarterback that can win you football games. I watched Taylor Heinicke for WFT Thursday night. Another player that plays like his life depends on it. Plays like he's starving, plays with supreme confidence. Now neither Carr or Heinicke are GOAT level QB's, but they give their teams a chance.
I don't see a confident, gutsy player with some moxy to back it up when I watch Tua. He's terrible at making quick decisions. Again....Quick decision making, playing in chaos, those are qualities great QB's have. What I see with Tua, is a player that loves the sport, was a legend in college, but isn't going to get it done at the professional level. He's a career backup in my opinion. He'll have a ten year career, he'll be on ESPN discussing college football by his late 30's. I can't believe I am already saying this about him, but I am already done. I saw it last week a little bit with the Patriots in a game we had no business winning, and then he flat out gets knocked out in this one today. EVERY time he has started a game that was a must win/statement game, he has failed. I know it's still early into his career, but he's not IT. If he can come back from this and get it together, I will gladly eat these overly emotional fanboy words. I'll be waiting.resnor, Mexphin and GARDENHEAD like this. -

It's not good, that's for sure. Hopefully it's short term - good or bad we need to see if he can take it up a notch or not. This was very disappointing.

Look guys, let's take Tua being injured off the table for a second and let's be REAL about a few things.
One of the Dolphins biggest weaknesses over the last decade, if not longer has been the offensive line. That's a historical fact. The Dolphins have not had a 1000 yard rusher since Jay Ajayi, Ryan Tannehill was one of the most sacked quarterbacks in the league with the least amount of time between the snap of the ball and contact from the defense and the tale of unlocked defenders getting in the backfield continues to this day. Without a stout offensive line, your running back can only do so much, your quarterback is running for his life or worse, as in today's game, he's getting planted. And speaking of being planted...
I've seen quarterbacks who were looked at the wrong way and defenders were flagged for roughing the passer. Now, I am one of those who complain all the time about quarterbacks being TOO protected but if they are, then that rule needs to be enforced equally. Tagovailoa was PLANTED...driven into the turf which in this day and age of quarterback protection rules constitutes roughing the passer.
And lastly, we played the Buffalo Bills. All last season and thus far this season, the Bills have been anointed the new gold standard of the AFC East. It's not like we were blown out by the Jaguars, or the Lions or the Jets. The Bills are who we thought they were.
Now is Tagovailoa a weak quarterback and doesn't have what it takes to make it in the NFL? That debate can be had all day long but I don't care WHO you are...if you're planted blindside by a 280lb defensive lineman with the veracity that Tagovailoa was today, you're going to get hurt.Idahophin, VManis, Silverphin and 2 others like this. -
Tua didn’t really even get rocked that hard. Brissett took some bigger hits and got up.

Yeah our OL is definitely an issue. Why Grier decided to go with an OL that averages about 1.5 seasons of experience is beyond me but that’s what it is. They should get better with time and experience.
Even IF Tua gets better, will he stay healthy? Can he be trusted to put together a full season? What if he gets injured going into the playoffs? Why even take that risk with him in the top 5 of the draft? -
What God awful blocking on that hit too. Even if Miami ends up with a more durable QB they won't stay durable for long taking hard hits like that they aren't at fault for.
Tannehill was pretty durable until he finally wasn't after years of getting smashedMexphin, Striking and The_Dark_Knight like this. -

You see, I thought we had the offensive line shored up? I mean, we've spent a lot of picks on that particular department. I don't understand it. There's quite a bit of youth on that line now. I'm not sure why we got rid of some of the vets that we did, but Ohhh-Kay. It doesn't look good now. We passed on Penei Sewell in the draft, that may or may not prove to be a mistake. We'll see...But what good is Waddle without a Quarterback to throw him the ball? Brissett...For all his experience...was terrible today. Again, that was on the O-line. They did nothing to help either QB or the run game today. If the offensive line continues to do this, I think we're in for a long crappy season. Again though, a franchise QB can mask a flawed offensive line to a certain extent. I disagree with people saying that guys like Watson or Aaron Rodgers couldn't throw behind this offensive line. Disagree vehemently. Yes....It's a liability at this very moment, but both Watson and Rodgers are playmakers. They make quick decisions in chaotic moments. Something we haven't had at the QB position since 1999.

I know I was critical of him last year for his play and took some flack for it but I never meant it as a slight against the guy, just discussing his play. Im not ready to write him off just yet; theres potential there, but that constant deer in headlights look that I get from him is a pretty tell tale sign to me that the game is too big for him still. Makes sense, he's still very inexperienced but the flashes aren't even there from him and this offense. It's not all on him, the OL has alot to do with this too, but if you just zero in on him when there's pressure and his first read isn't there, the freeze, and the panic sets in. The very first sack of the day is an example of it to me. That free rusher is coming right in his face, he's looking in that direction, turns his head to the middle of the field then gets smoked. There's just no awareness, no spark, no flash just a guy who looks like he doesn't belong right now and is going through the motions and everyone else on that unit around him knows it.
It may be fixable; but right now the gameplan is easy if you're an opposing DC. Put pressure on him to make a throw beyond read #1. They know we have no running game and shaky pass blocking so make Tua beat you. Nobody is afraid of him at this point, not even in the slightest. Pressure him, press the WR's to stop the short passes and screens, play good run D. Game over.Last edited: Sep 19, 2021 -

We spent a lot of picks and FA money on O-linemen. Just the wrong ones, as usual. I said it during the 20 and 21 drafts, we drafted the wrong o-linemen. I don't know if Flores or Grier made those decisions, but they were stupid then and look even worse now.
