Things Being Overlooked Immediately After The Seahawks Game
1) It wasn’t the Defense that held the Seahawks to 12 points that failed in this game. It wasn’t even the new offense, missing Pouncey and Parker, that failed in scoring only 10 points against one of the NFL’s top defenses playing in their home opener. To win this game what we really needed was a BIG day from special teams. Grant scoring a TD, A block or forced fumble leading to a turnover. Winning the FG game. Well, Special Teams was a mixed bag. Had we gotten any one of those things though.. a Grant TD, another FG from our Kicker, or a turnover by a coverage team the Dolphins win this game. And that was more doable than expecting this new offense to beat the Seahawks defense, or for this defense to completely shut-out Russel Wilson in his own house.
2) If Gase doesn’t go for it on 4th down early, the players don’t REALLY get his culture and mindset. We complain when players don’t ‘buy in’ to a coach’s approach, and the repeated failure to create a new culture here - yet the reason why that usually happens is that what the coach tells the team all week in meeting rooms is not what he actually does on gameday. For example, Philbin would talk all week about being aggressive on offense then kneel down and not try to score (Lazor called out his own boss on that hypocrisy). Players need to see the Head Coach walk their talk on game day. Whether or not going for it on fourth down was the wrong call in terms of the scoreboard, Gase went for it to establish the mindset, culture and buy-in he needs from his players this season. He reiterated this in his post-game press conference when asked about the decision - saying he’d do it again and will be doing it all season, that this is how we play. What may seem like a mistake in the small picture, may be a great move in the big picture.
3) This was a GOOD outing for this offense, in big picture terms. 10 points today looks like this, in my eyes, by season’s end…
+2 points per game by end of season as players and QB learn system
+2 ppg when our starting Center returns
+ 2 ppg when Parker begins playing regularly
+ 4 ppg because we won’t usually be playing one of the NFL’s top defenses
+ 2 ppg not playing in Seattle’s stadium, with 12th man disadvantage
+ 2 ppg how/if/when we get a Tight End actually functioning in this offense.
= 24 points per game. This is what I think our offense’s avg ppg will be by season’s end.
Overall, there is reason for optimism.

we lost and it hurts. I thought maybe that when we were up 10-6 with 4:00 to go we actually would have shocked the world. Miami's lack of pass rush and coverage lost the game at the end. No matter what happened, before, drop td pass, stopped on 4th, or missed fg, we were in position to win the game. So we go back to the film and try to correct that. Yes Run defense and pass rush were improved, just hope the offense can get released soon

The offense on Sunday will not be nearly as conservative as it was this past Sunday. It was conservative this week in Seattle by design. Gase planned for it to be this kind of game.. A lot of 3 and outs.. A few chances at some big plays that we needed to hit on.. And win it in 4th Qtr. Outside of Stills drop.. The game unfolded exactly as he game planned for...
This is a coach that knows football. He knew exactly how the game would unfold.. And the correct game plan to give us our best shot at winning.. And damned if he didn't almost get it. -
Yeah, I expect the defense to make plays at the end to stop the other team. Allowing 4th down conversions, two I think?, is unacceptable. I don't blame the defense for the loss, but they certainly didn't step up like you'd expect. 10-6 with 4 minutes to go, make the stop.

And nobody is mentioning the idiotic penalty on Wake. That extended the drive and I believe led to points.MAFishFan and dolfan7171 like this. -

The team has to learn how to finish drives and finish games. The 10-13 points left on the field was the main reason we lost, the untimely defense and sorry drive at the end of the game were the nails in the coffin. Stringer mentioned this in the other thread, but I think this receiving corps is severely overrated at this point in time. We don't have that number 1 receiver or tight end to move the chains on a dependable basis, and I don't think you can count on Parker to just come back and take that role over, if ever. This very much felt like the Dolphins' games we've been watching the past couple years, and I'm starting to worry about a stink hanging over this roster's core players (outside of certain players). Nobody can seem to make a play on offense or defense when it's really needed. Very hard to pinpoint and very frustrating to watch these types of games on Sundays.

It's annoying to me. Him and Phillip Rivers do it. I'm always like, "they're going to score and this knucklehead thinks it's a wrap." -
-
So we are going to be upset that our QB enjoys playing the game... Got it.

Yeah, these are the types of complaints that get me mad. Tannehill lead the team down to score late in the 4th. I'm sure he was happy, and felt good. I'm sure he thought the defense would continue their good play, and stop their drive, so he could go out and kneel out the clock.

https://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/opponent-average-team-passer-rating
NFL average last year was 88.4, and Seattle's home field advantage last year was 3.7:

So 5.1 points is the expected gain in passer rating on neutral turf after playing Seattle.Bpk likes this. -
Yep, Tannehill did what he needed to do on that last drive. Took control, moved the ball downfield and scored. The defense just couldn't close them out.
Look, that was a defensive game from jump street. Both teams got great play from that side of the ball and while I expected that from Seattle in their house I did not expect that from ours.Pandarilla and Shane Falco like this. -

Tannehill should have had a 102 rating on the game.
And I don't care about averages or other teams drops. LOLFin D and Shane Falco like this. -

He thought the game was in the bag, in Seattle, against Russell Wilson, 4 point lead, 4 minutes to go? He looks stupid to me for it.
And he played a good game...Shane Falco likes this. -
Yep, Ryan Tannehill smiling on the sidelines is definitely the reason we lost this game. I'll tell ya what....A person should not be allowed to love their job...At all! He probably needs to keep that seasoned roofer look all the time, where his face is in a permanent frown from being in the sun all the time. What was he thinking huh? Smiling on the sidelines like that? Sheesh, WTF.

The crap Tannehill gets around here is unbelievable.

I think he was saying that playing against an elite defense, any good coach would expect alot of three and outs. The gameplan seemed to be conservative mostly, limit turnovers and mistakes, but take a deep shot if it was there.
We should have scored at least 20 points, which would be 4 more than the Seahawks gave up last year on average. Kicking the field goal in the first would have allowed us to score 23. I think his gameplan was dead on.
You guys realize we were playing the Seahawks, right? Right?Pandarilla and Tin Indian like this. -
