Normally I wouldn't bother with this kind of topic because Fitzpatrick is doing just fine behind center, but a lot has changed since Rosen was benched...plus there's nothing else to really talk about anyway (tired of posting in the same threads for a month now, LOL). I'm 100% on the Fitz-Magic bandwagon so this isn't about him at all....love the guy and what he's done in Miami with this roster and developing talent.
Anyway, with the line playing much better and somewhat establishing the run game, would it be a good idea to take a 2nd look at Rosen? In a "nothing to lose" season, I really don't see the downside of playing a young QB and letting him make/break his career. He played poorly in his last start but that was also one of our worse line performances of the past month- what do you guys think?

You risk losing the guys who are currently bought in to your system and are playing hard for you would be my thought.
After listening to Flores in the locker room and seeing his decisions over the season, it's pretty clear to me that Flores is trying to win, I don't think he's interested in evaluating Rosen. I could be wrong. I'd imagine that Rosen won't see playing time again until either Fitz is doing terrible or Flores is convinced somehow that Rosen is their best shot at winning.Tin Indian, Irishman, mlb1399 and 3 others like this. -
I wouldn’t be surprised if Rosen never started another game in the NFL.

I think we've seen all we're going to see from Rosen unless an injury happens. We rolled the dice on trading for him and it looks as though it didn't work out. Rosen looks like a bust to me in my opinion. Might do him some good to go to another team and be a backup for a few years. QB's generally have a long shelf life in the NFL and the guy can certainly spin it, but he's no franchise QB and he's really not even a starter at this time. I'd rather us roll with Fitz for the rest of the year and then bring him back again next year as a backup for whoever we draft.
-
I'm bringing this up because the last thing I want to see is us draft Burrows/Tua/whoever, part ways with Fitzpatrick, then see Rosen win a camp battle against the rookie. To me that's a complete nightmare and I'd either want him the starter next season or out the door completely, with Fitz serving as the backup and mentor. Or maybe we do carry 3 QB's....but I'd like to see the team commit to the next guy in the door no matter what. -
I mean.. I take the view that it's really valuable for the long term health of this franchise that we get that #1 pick, and one way to make that highly likely (we still "control our destiny" because we play Cinci!) is to start Rosen lol. So I'd be all for that.

For the tankers, starting Rosen is the best thing to do. As we debated before the season started, there is no long term benefit to starting Fitzmagic all season as there is no future with him (except as a bridge QB in 2020 for a newly drafted rookie QB). Let's give Rosen more games to confirm he won't improve OR to pull a rabbit out of the hat and shock us all with vast improvement.
If Rosen has been paying attention since being benched, he could have benefited from watching how Fitzmagic prepares and plays. The team seems to have settled down with the OL improving and the WR corp making some plays.
So, play Rosen to confirm there is no spark from him, then let Fitzmagic play in 2020 for at least half the season then give the rookie QB the second half or last quarter of the season to get some experience. Rosen can stick around to be the cheap #2 QB for 2021. -
I see no valuable upside at all to start Rosen. Personally, I believe he's not in the future plans for this team and I have the feeling the brass realizes this also. Fitzpatrick is the solid choice these last 8 games as he has the better ability to see what the rest of the offense is made of and see who out of the group are keepers. Rosen is still a huge question mark in this league so its hard to evaluate talent around him.

JaMarcus Russel had 4 starts with a passer rating above average in his first 16 starts.
In 16 starts Josh Rosen has zero higher than average rating games.
When you are doing worse than 2 of the biggest busts in NFL history, well let’s just say it is not a good sign. -
I agree, he's not off to a good start. He doesn't seem to have the "IT" gene. Best to learn what he can from Fitz and then see what he can do behind an improved line towards the end of the season after the first round BYE is in the bag and we are resting the starters for the playoff run.

I just don't think there is anything to gain, and why mess with the chemistry that took us this long to achieve. I was fine with using the little bit of draft capital to get Rosen and see if there was something else there, but it was always going to be a quick "throw him to the fire" initiation. He had one chance to come out and show us something, and he didn't do it.

I suspect he will play in another 2 or 3 games. I wouldn't be surprised to see a last minute change to put Rosen in, just to confuse the oppositions game plan and give Fritz a rest now and again.KeyFin likes this. -

We all know Fitz can be volatile. We will ride the wave as long as it's high, but if he crashes, we might see Rosen for a few games. But I don't think anyone should be surprised if Rosen doesn't play another starting down for us (or anyone for that matter). That class is looking really shaky aside from Jackson. Allen has moments, but Darnold is floundering under that fraud Gase, Mayfield has regressed from a good first year and is playing under a JV coach in Kitchens. Rosen is a total bust so far. Allen ... up and down.

Rosen should start ever single game IMHO you got him for a steal your trying to get a good draft pick next year and fitz is an average QB with 3-4 good ganes a year in him. You play him the rest of this year and somehow win 4 ganes your screwed in the draft.

Latest thing I seem to be reading is that they're not so much fixated on Tua as on having lots of picks (which they've definitely done).
The conventional wisdom seems to be that the best thing is to have lots of picks, because no one consistently drafts well (see cbrad), so having lots of picks increases your chances of getting lucky. So I expect they'll continue to play whoever gives them the best chance to win, and at QB that's Fitz. And (assuming the Fins finish ahead of Cincy and maybe the Jets) I guess they won't put a package of picks together to move up in the draft, because there isn't anyone in the draft worth doing that for. (Of course if I'm wrong, feel free to say so.) -
how is Rosen a steal when hes not even going to be on the roster next season????
Stick with Fitzpatrick unless injured. I want to see who we have to build with. So far Bobby McCain, Baker, McMillan have all shown great progress.
Our offensive line made up of literal street guys have all shown great progress. Gesicki is starting to play like expected. Preston Williams and Walton has shown us stuff.
we got to keep the momentum going. We cant start from ground zero. Having a foundation with the amount of capspace and draft picks we got will set us up for success for the next decade.
