To all the Joe Philbin supporters : A Question
Simple question that should really let us take a real good look at the "Head Honcho", "The Man", The Jefe"
Joe Philbin is a career Offensive line coach.
Why do you think our offensive line sucks if this is the case? Respectable teams start in the Trenches. One would think we would have the best line in the NFL - but we dont
WHY?

They were top 10 in both run blocking and pass protection before Albert went down. Now they are 9th in run blocking and 18th in pass protection. So what would be acceptable for you? Seattle, KC, GB and Dallas are all ranked about the same as us, but it doesn't seem to bother them too much.

Same with Hickey, too, I'd imagine, lol.2socks likes this. -
Because coaches that are specialists like OL think they can make chicken salad out of chicken ****. They feel they can "coach them up". It's why I don't get excited over "specialists".

Blame Ireland for missing on so many OL picks and who can forget the long list of woeful and done free agent olineman he brought in.
This year we have a couple of keepers but we still need help at three positions.MonstBlitz and Hobiesailor like this. -

Given the fact that we have lived and died by the offensive line this year and probably will not make the playoffs as a result, who's fault should it be --- Sparano, Ireland...?? -
I don't think any of us, myself included, knows with certainty how much of the team's performance to attribute to Joe Philbin. It could very well be the case, for example, that the team could be performing worse with the same personnel, under a different head coach. Or it could be performing the same, or better. Who knows.

In my opinion you cant blame our Oline woes on a specific thing, or person, like the HC. At the beginning of the season we had a totally new Oline. Keep that in mind. Last season Philbin wanted Albert and that would have been a good step in building a strong Oline and we could have put focus elsewhere this season (like depth). Our pro bowl center was out with a hip injury so we had to find a replacement, when our pro bowler got healthy we put him into a position he hasn't played for us yet. We have a rookie starter who moved position because Albert went down(big shoes to fill especially for a rookie) and we filled his position with a backup, D. Thomas. Colledge suffered from sickness (migranes?) and we had to make adjustments, think he is better now though. The fact that they are 9th in run blocking is a huge surprise to me.

I don't think this is a Philbin discussion at all....it's more of a front office one. Because like others have said, we had great protection before a few key starters went down and it's been a domino effect ever since. So the real question here should be, "Why did Hickey and this administration not bring in better quality back up help? Especially since we have a long history of our left tackle getting hurt."
For me, the answer is pretty simple....you can only get so much talent in one season. It's important to remember that we started an entirely new offensive line this season (since Pouncey was out hurt) and that's beyond rare in the NFL. It's hard enough to bring in 5 caliber starters in one season, so I give everyone a pass for the line problems...for now. We'd better have 3-5 new names at backup line before next season though, because the drop in talent massive.OkiePhin and Fins Hipster like this. -

There are still Joe Philbin lovers? That just doesn't make sense to me. I don't think I could even understand that logic. The man has no spine. We need a coach who is going to rally the players, a coach who is going to get in the face of an official and bark his ear off if we get a bull**** bad penalty against us.
This team needs a Coach with balls and high football IQ. -
I did not say it was only coaching. More could have been done and I would expect the HEAD COACH given his pedigree to be all up and involved in it since it is the number one glaring hole this team has had for 5 years or more
Apparently he hasn't been. I am not surprised -

If Philbin has direct responsibility for allowing this line to "fester" and not going out on a limb and fixing it, is this a leader?
I would rather be 2-14 for one season and fix the line once and for all then to be stuck in 8-8 purgatory forever.....JMO -
