No surprise to me Lawrence is up there. He's looking like the real deal. I bet he'll end up above Herbert in key passing stats by end of the season. The other guy that might be the real deal is Purdy. When is he going to have a bad game??

Will be very interesting to see where a bunch of QBs end up this year. And I'm happily watching Geno Smith's prove last year was a huge anomaly.. one game only I know, but still a nice start!

 

When I look at these rankings, I can’t help but feel this is a WWE ranking of its “superstars”, all fake and catering to fans and not actual performance.

Not taking anything away from Mahomes, but can we be HONEST here?

First off the Chiefs lost, but whatever. More importantly though, Mahomes only completed 53% of his passes, threw for only 226 yards, only had a 5.8 ypa and threw 2TDs and 1 Int.

Hurts completed 66% percent of his passes…impressive but only threw for 170 yards, only had 5.8 ypa and threw for only 1 TD.

Tua though? Completed 62% of his passes, threw for 466 yards, had 10.4 ypa and threw for 3 TDs and 1 Int.

Actual quarterback PERFORMANCE, how in the hell are Mahomes and Hurts rated ABOVE Tua?

Tua threw for more yards than Mahomes and Hurts COMBINED, had a ypa twice that of Mahomes and Hurts and threw as many TDs and Mahomes and Hurts combined.

I know these ratings are fluid and change from week to week, but if we’re being truly HONEST, Tua should be rated #1 for week 1.

At least with college rankings, they definitely reward a win and demote a loss.

 

What’s so LOL about this is Herbert played average at best, lost and went UP in ranking.

That’s another way I know these rankings mean nothing.

 

To be fair to Mahomes, his receivers' hands were for decoration during that game.

Yah, IMO all rankings and lists made before the third game are pretty much just puff pieces. I guess they are after that point as well, but there's really no value in ranking any players/teams after the first game. This applies to both the pros and college. The guy who created this list was going to put Mahomes and Hurts at the top regardless, so it didn't matter how well anybody actually played. That's the nature of subjective rankings.

 

I would guess because they're trying to isolate QB performance kind of like how QBR is supposed to attempt to isolate QB play. So like a 3 yard pass that turns into 60 might not get 57 yards credited to the QB.

Not saying I agree with that methodology, but that might be a reason.

Also I don't like the "no excuses" thing. Excuses are not reasons. There can be reasons why a performance is bad. Guy could have dislocated his finger...shouldn't say, "No excuses! Should have thrown the ball better!!" It just wouldn't make sense.

Watching the KC v Jacksonville game…I don’t see how Lawrence is rated so high. I’m not that impressed with him.

 

Most people wouldn't think much of Burrow during the first two weeks of this season if they hadn't seen him before.

 

Tannehill w/ a 123.26 passer rating against that Chargers defense.

 

Yeah, Staley seriously should have been fired after last week. The “defensive coach” is completely over his head. He is lost.

 

If this trend keeps up, it’s gonna be a LONG season for the Chargers.

What's supernatural about it is they claim r^2 = 0.000 (top right). That's a statistical impossibility, probably less likely than being struck by lightning twice in a row lol. They made a mistake somewhere, but no one checks prior to publishing lol.

Taken literally that r^2 = 0 means there is no relationship whatsoever between average time to throw and average completed air yards, not even the tiniest amount. Statistical impossibility, but carry on Doug-Analytics!

(btw.. way to correct that is to use proper scientific notation so it doesn't come out as exactly zero.. relationship is nearly zero, yes, but it can't be exact which that suggests)

 

It's probably the most counterintuitive graph that I can imagine. Head scratchingly hard to believe but amazing if it's accurate.

Most will get over it soon enough. Half of them are simply arguing to kick up dirt at this point. If he keeps playing at a high level, they'll realize that it's more fun to have a good QB than it is to try to convince others why he sucks. Stubborn or not, they're not stupid so the best way to convince them they're wrong is for them to see it with their own eyes.

Crabbs was talking about how Tua straight no looked a couple passes. He mentioned one to cracraft on final drive of first half. He’s right, what a play.
We had just hit two flats to Ahmed. This time he looks flat,
Backer leans and turns hips. Tua snaps the throw right behind his head. From the all 22 behind the line you can see the backer totally flinch back confused, no idea how the ball was behind him. Dude was lost and tripping lol, In less than two seconds. Amazing
