I'd like to know the opinions on some of the Centers from the draft Gurus.
Who would you draft in this years Draft and why?
Or would you just rather sign Jason Brown?

Just my opinion. I like the flexibility that Unger can bring to the team, as far as our O line in case someone went down. I think he needs to keep his body down so he doesn't get up so high, and D lineman get the best of him. Some weights would help out as well at the next level.
I liked what I saw out of Wood at the Senior Bowl. He did a very nice job. I don't know much about Mack to be honest. I think where we pick in the draft if we want one, we will be able to get one of them. I am anxious to see at the combine what they do on the bench as far as strength goes.Phinperor likes this. -

One factor in center Samson Satele's up-and-down play (according to the Dolphins' thinking) is that he played all season with problems in his right shoulder and was diagnosed this month with a torn labrum. He had recent surgery and should be fine for next season. Satele (295 pounds) and the Dolphins want him to bulk up -- he's shooting for 305-310.
Brother ncdolfan gets credit for pointing this out.The Aqua Crush, Boomer, skippysphins and 1 other person like this. -
Eric Wood proved he is versatile enough to play either Center or Guard but I see Caldwell seems to fit more of the smash mouth but Alex Mack is probably the best overall.

Antoine Caldwell

I'm with CK on this one. Unless we get more picks, I'd rather let Samson Satele play a healthy season with hopefully healthy starting guards on either side of him.
Having gone through a torn labrum myself, Samson should have no trouble putting on an extra 10-15 pounds. The weeks off from running/lifting should take care of that. The rehab was the tough part, but I'd imagine for an NFL player doing an NFL-caliber rehab, Samson should be fine.
If we do get an extra pick, I've like Antoine Caldwell all year. -
Wow, didn't even know that Samson Satele was playing with a torn labrum. Thanks Fin Fan.

I would not draft one. However if we were to draft one I would prefer Caldwell or Wood later on (as in late 2nd or later).

After last week with the both the BC DT's having their way with Unger and even Mack.
Then to be shut out for much of the game thanks to Eric Wood and Caldwell.Says a'lot.I'd like to see ether Caldwell or Wood or even both in Miami next year.....but then again i'm the guy who wants us too take 2 OLine men in the 1st day.Fin Fan In Cali likes this. -
It's extremely painful playing with a torn labrum for him to have done it shows toughness and I'd be really pissed if we keep giving up on our draft picks just like that. His play was actually not as bad as advertised. The guards were terrible though.
Centers also take time to get better and if anything Satele deserves a shot. He's already a 32 game starter and will get better. -
Ok, now i agree with CK, lol. I didn't know that Satele was playing injured. I was wondering why his play dropped. I would love for him to get one more year to show us his true self.
But I wouldn't be mad if we signed Jason Brown. -
If Satele does actually get to 305 lbs with increased strength, healthy it could be a major boost for the team. It would essentially be the addition of a 1-2 round pick all in all if Satele can gain the form he had in 2007.
It'd be exciting to go into the draft with a strategy of nabbing defensive players whenever we like it without having to make even a pick on offense (I expect Coles to be a Dolphin giving us that veteran receiver). Maybe we'll add some depth on the inside of the offensive line through free agency but it'd be an all defensive draft. -
If we dont sign Brown as a FA, I would like to keep Satele as starter and maybe get Wood or Caldwell with 2b or 3 in the draft, none earlier.
If we go Unger, its just to provide general depth, and I dont think thats a good use of a first rounder where we want to take a player that should come in starting or getting significant playing time and making an impact. -
At best Unger was going to be a late 1st round pick IMHO now he looks a heck a'lot more like a 3rd or even 4th round guy.
He's better at G then Center and was being out played by guys with lower round grades........Guys like Green, Canfield. As far as how they played up against the two BC DT.
So ether Wood/Caldwell/Green/Canfield are all going to be in the NFL for many, many years or Unger just flat out sucks. -
draft a tackle instead
-
In a weird way I'm wondering if Satele's possible return to health might sway us to draft Unger. Unger is a stalwart at virtually all five positions. We could slot him in at center if Satele underperforms or move him to a guard or tackle position.

I thought Unger would show he was a second level talent last week but never thought he'd play as bad as he did.
It's cool if you look at the Senior Bowl as the dessert but kids are moving around 60 spots in the draft cuzzz of this one week in their life.
All you have to do is go back and look at some of the sliders from years past to see how big a deal this game/week is. -
How about a little bet....................I'll bet you a twelve pack of beer or something of the same value " incase if their is some dumb law that won't let me ship you beer" that Unger will not be a 1st day pick.
Are you down??? and if he's not a 1st day pick then i'd win a twelve pack of beer or something of the same value from you.Deal???
I will also bet anyone that wants to take me up on it that, Michael Johnson will not be a top 20 pick.Same rules apply.........Must be over 21 in the U.S.A. or of drinking age in what ever bungalow your from. -
Cool , just let me know what kind of beer you like from here, or what kind ya want. -
Not sure about Unger Boom, he looks like one of those guys who is "okay" but not much better then that at any single position. -
-
As far as Mack and Unger getting beat by Raji in drills, did you see the game.... It was exactly the problem with Raji, he can look like a world beater at times but then will fold like a lawn chair. When he is on, he is every bit the monster alot of people think he is, the problem is when he is not on the staring center on the high school JV team is putting him on his back. His inconsistency is off the charts. If he could play all the time with teh intensity he does when he has it turned on you could see a top 5 pick. His ability is that good, but I dont know if its laziness or lack of focus but he never plays up to his full potential.
-
Antoine Caldwell.... versatile i nthe middle, great feet, quick, solid lateral motion, locks up quick with good base, and solid techniwue. always aggressive helping with the guards, and pretty decent getting to the next level... possibly one of the faster linemen in the draft taboot!!! great worker and character!!!

I would sign Jason Brown if given the chance. Heralded classes of prospects don't always pan out (ala Cadillac Williams and Cedric Benson). I'd take the sure thing if possible.
But if I had to pick, I'd take Eric Wood -
2007 Remington Award Winner for best Center in College Football. He was the reason Darren McFadden got all those yards rushing. We could draft him in the 3rd round. -
-
my top three are:
Wood
Caldwell
Luigs
so in that order... -
I personally think we can have a larger value upgrade at other positions than Center. Samson is a good, relaible player and until were solid at several other positions i think the upgrade vs resources used to upgrade at Center would be a waste, especially a first day draft pick.
