Exactly, here's a guy who's played through an injury his senior year at Michigan and a sprained knee last year, but he's not tough.

 

I hope Henne does well. I wish him no harsh and I have hold ill feelings towards him at all. I just wanna win and I really don't care who does it for us. Everyone has suffered long enough. It's past time for this offense to click regardless who the QB is. If it's Henne great - if not great. Whatever is best for the team. Just win baby!

 

I have hopes for this team. Henne may not set the world on fire with his skills, but if the running game and defense workout better than they did last year, he can, at the least, be adequate much like Sanchez in New York.

I do believe he is better than Sanchez, though, so I have hopes he'll actually be good.

 

I could be wrong, but I believe there are more Jets fans who would trade Sanchez for Henne than Miami fans who would trade Henne for Sanchez.

 

If Henne goes out and has a solid season, QB rating about 85 or up, and the team has a winning record, most of the Anti-Henne faction will develop a case of selective amnesia when it comes to past comments about him, I guess.

 

And if for some reason he doesn't, I'll take solace in the fact that I at least supported a guy who did everything he can to help us win.

 

I love the freakin Henne chant's, I would love for that story to grow..

Certainly. I'll also root for Hartline this season and hope he turns out better than I think. Heck, if they wear a Dolphins uniform, I'll never boo them. I save my negatives for the zebras and the other team. I'd love to see the NFL have full time officials like baseball does. That may cut down on the clusterf**k calls like in the Steelers game last year and the Saints game the year before.

I really do hope Henne has success as its what this franchise craves. My negativity at times is based on frustration with ownership and their assanine comments.

 

I've been very critical of Henne and the front office for not getting more talent at the Qb position but I do hope that Henne has a great year if he starts obviously. Its hard as a fan to sit here and believe in Henne when our front office clearly doesn't. They benched him last year, tried to trade for Qbs, looked in the draft but he's kind of here starting again as a fallback option so I don't see why fans are being taken to task for not going all in behind a player that the front office has clearly tried to either replace or seriously challenge Henne for the starting job. And I say this as someone who was very happy that we drafted him, I liked him a lot coming out of college and I think he has the tools needed to start in this league and be successful I just don't know if he can get it done.

 

I think he is the best option atm. No need in bringing in a high dollar replacement if they don't really want to play for Miami in the first place. I have not given up on Henne yet but the timeline on the next level is very short. He has shown the ability to be good but he must maintain that threw 4 quarters for 16 plus games.

 

I am not happy about the Qb situation on this team, but there is no sense in beating a dead horse any longer. Chad is our Qb for this year and I hope he plays his azz off. I really hope he steps up this year like I had hopes for last year because it is in this teams best interest to have the Qb situation solved once and for all.

Normally I'd agree with that. However, I feel the bitterness has reached epic new heights. I think Henne has reached Cameron level hatred in too many people.

 

I really hope not, he is going to be the QB for this team this year. I wanted an upgrade, most people wanted to upgrade. It didn't happen. I will hope that he takes the steps forward that I was looking for last year. I am also hoping that he was hampered by a bad system under Dan Henning and that Dabolls system and instruction will greatly help his play this year.

He might never be a fan favorite but people will tolerate him, much like we tolerated Fiedler.

Even if Henne is simply passable this season, like 18 TD's 15 INT's I'd probably still look for improvement. Baltimore dumped Dilfer after winning a Super Bowl, no reason for us to stop looking

 

Which is rational. But people are acting like he's the worst QB in the league and sole reason we didn't go to the SB last season. When in truth, he hasn't really been any worse than average.

I understand concern, I dont think IMO and i could be wrong the benchings were more take a step back situ rather than a lack of belief. They know Henne needs to step up but believe he can. NE was just a train wreck as a team, remove him from the fire to save him from an untennable situation. I also as have said think they wanted better competition for Henne but to get that qb (orton) it forced them to award Orton the job and they wanted a competition. Orton already had to compete at Denver but would make more money doing it, Orton had 0 incentive to come here at a paycut. I think Orton basically nixed the deal as he could be a FA after 12 and he didnt have to restructure

Basically I think they wanted a better qb comp but they couldnt get a guy that didnt dictatethey start him.

 

I have never been a Henne fan, but I find myself defending him constantly simply b/c he's not nearly as bad as so many here claim. When he's compared to other players with similar experience he's actually been average to above average. But for some reason people want to pretend that every other QB out there is so much better and that Henne isn't capable of performing as well as others he outperformed at similar stages in their careers. I've seen people ask why so many of these Henne defending threads focus on other QB, but I thought it was obviously b/c almost nobody is claiming that Henne is great, just that he's at least as good as all these other QBs whom people see as better.

 

While I have great respect for your opinion Raf, I just don't think that the ebst of Henne is that much better than what we've seen. It's pretty obvious the organization feels that way too.

At the end of the day the guy is a mediocre starting QB in this league. Could he catch lighting in a bottle and have a great year or two like Orton? Sure. But he's never going to be that consistent upper echelon guy

 

That's been my contention all along. Henne is unlikely to ever be a franchise guy. Heck, I said that before he was drafted. I also think that all these QBs that people are clamoring for as better will also not ever be franchise QBs. I think that history has shown that you're most likely to get a franchise guy by drafting one in the first round. Now it doesn't happen every year. Most year's you end up with a bunch of QBs that don't belong in the first round going there b/c teams are desperate. So if you're not lucky enough to suck in the year that a top guy is available you end up looking at those don't deserve to be first round guys most years. However, every so often there comes a year where several first round worthy guys come out at the same time. Next year is potentially one of those years. I have been saying all off season that our #1 priority has to be to have our picks available for that draft. I wouldn't be saying that if I thought Henne had franchise potential. But I don't see it as giving up on this season since I think we can make a playoff run even with mediocre QB.

What interests me is, how similarly are we set up to the way the Jets set up Sanchez the last two seasons?

All we lack is the Veteran Rb like a Jones or a Tomlinson.

I find it somewhat funny that the hill Tony Sparano has chosen to stick his flag on is Chad Henne.

 

I think he's been below average thus far with a ceiling of mediocre.

 

Some of the comments on the first page is what ticks me off. Just because I think the guy isn't QB we hoped he would be doesn't mean I hope he tanks. I absolutely want him to win, succeed, and be much better than my expectations are for him. Ultimately, if he does well, that means the Dolphins win, and I'm happy!

The problem is this. People use this message board to pump themselves up with "I told you so's" and act like they've "owned someone" or "showed them up" etc. I guess that's the age we live in.

I dunno. I'm pretty happy with everything I've got and even if Henne doesn't work out, I won't be happy about it. I've been wrong many more times in my life than I've been right, especially about players. But, I'd suspect I'll get a few, "eat crow" BS and other than me saying, I'm glad he turned out better than expected and I hope he continues to do well, that's all you get for me. However, it seems to me that most of you will expect me to be in your jocks and consider everything thing you say as truth, as I expect you'll say "Well, you were right about Henne", as if that's the only moniker I'll be known for. Because the circle jerk fests in here are intolerable at times. It impedes people to actually think for their own.

However, just know that if he doesn't work out. I won't hold it against your heads. I won't go around saying I was right. I won't be asking for some type of recognition. It won't change my thoughts on the person, etc. Nope. I'll be an unhappy Dol-fan that realizes were in the same position we were the past years in finding another QB.

So, I hope Chad Henne wins the job with a great camp. I hope he has a great year that leads the Dolphins to many wins. I hope that I erred in my judgement of him. I hope, want and wish for all those things to be true. However, in the back of my head that old saying holds true "Wish in one hand, **** in the other and see what comes first."

 

Not many other choices I guess, and he's not making the decisions.

They were trying to get better at that position so that their defense didn't have to score points to win games. They had a stretch that year where they didn't score an offensive TD for a month, yet won 3 of the games. That's how spectacular that defense was.

 

I suspect you are somewhat right, the checkbook was opened and we landed Bush/Burnett/McD/Colombo so from that point Sparano was not cut off, but the only claim on our 2012 draft is a late rd pick for Bush.

I can live with Chad Henne at Qb for 2011, what I do not want to see is to put the game plan on his shoulders via a passing offense that is the primary means of moving the ball, I'd much prefer to see DTrain with 280 carries and a 3 headed running back approach.

 

And in trying to improve their QB situation (Grbac = Orton), they managed to set themselves back 8 years in trying to find a QB. They really have been in the same QB quagmire we are in (until they drafted Flacco), except they have had some competent coaching and phenomenal defense.

 

I see how the Jets developed Sanchez as an example of what the Dolphins did poorly. The Jets led the league in rushing attempts and built their defense to protect him. They also focused on acquiring complementary talents for him (receiving TE, multiple WRs and backs that could catch). When he struggled with aspects of the offense they adapted those the offense to fit his strengths. They used play calling to make his passes less predictable and gave him simplified reads. They encouraged him to be aggressive and decided to live with his mistakes. The Dolphins did mostly the opposite. They abandoned the running game. They did build the defense. They never acquired (or even tried except for late round picks) the receiving TE which is the easiest target for a QB. They did get the #1 WR, but didn't get any other receivers that complemented Marshall's strengths. They didn't use the backs as receivers out of the backfield. When he struggled they called the same plays and said it was on him. They didn't use route combinations to provide easy reads. They stressed about every mistake and told him to above all to never make mistakes and then put the losses on him by benching him even though his stats were pretty good.

 

I said these same things last season about protecting Henne and running the football. Being smart with your young QB.
You and many others here insisted oh no you can't do that it is a passing league.
I even cited the Jets as an example and was shot down and now I read this.
