You don't want to pay Tua $100+ million if he stays healthy and put up the similar numbers to last year, but you do want to give Jackson $200+ million guaranteed and he is just as much as an injury risk than Tua?

Not to mention Lamar Jackson only fits one type of offense, a Lamar Jackson college style offense. Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle would be rendered useless.

More detail: It would be ludicrous to give up a player like Tua, and draft capital and a LOT more money to take on a player who isn't a better passer and also has injury concerns.

The original poster said $100 million. I added the "+", because if Tua balls out this year the contract will be closer to $200 million.

And for the record, the $200 million is what Jackson is asking for, nobody has put that number on him hence why nobody wants him.

 

According to Ravens, they've offered, "$133 million at signing, $175 million if he got injured, and $200 million springing guarantee if he is on the roster on the fifth day of 2026 league year."

So again, if you think Tua is the better player AND the injury concerns are the same. Then why wasn't Tua offered something similar?

A quarterback that wins with his legs and has missed games due to multiple leg/knee injuries is not insignificant.

 

It is in comparison to multiple concussions in short periods and major hip injuries.

 

Because Tua still has two seasons left on his rookie contract. Why would we offer him substantially more? Why would any franchise do that with a player on a rookie contract? It sets a terrible precedent.

 

Regardless of injury risk do you think it makes any sense at all to give Tua a mega deal now? We have him on a rookie deal giving us a small window to keep the roster intact while keeping the franchise QB. When a franchise QB gets his big payday the rest of the roster will suffer. It's not about a lack of confidence like you're insinuating. The fact that they picked up the fifth year option was all we needed to see he's in Miami's long term plans. You might as well accept Tua will be here for at least two more years.

Would you say you are dead wrong or would you say : yeah but, but.....weapons around him are talented, not Tua".
Our HC is extremely pleased with Tua going forward so don't take it personal if I take his professional evaluation over yours.
And don't embarrass yourself and say you're rooting for Tua and hope he's it. You want Tua out of Miami ,period.

What I DO know is Tua is QB1 and that's not coming from an opinion standpoint. You have no choice but to root against Tua just like the rest of us have to root against Allen, Jones, Rodgers(?) . .....

 

They are, and it's a mistake. The best time to build around a QB is when he's dirt cheap on his rookie deal. You give Herbert $40M a year at this point and that team will really struggle to make the playoffs with him.

Different scenario for Hurts; you pay that man and you're letting a few vital veterans walk away. Maybe they're the same team, maybe not. But paying it two years early is a recipe for disaster.

 

And what if Tua balls out again next season, we win the AFC East, Tua is a finalist for league MVP and we make a DEEP run in the playoffs, if not the Super Bowl?
