I just realized that big fat overwhelming NT for alabama was cody the other day.

Yup if he's there I'm taking him. A line anchoring NT that can develop around langford and merling at the same time is crucial IMO.

 

I wonder if he's too heavy. He's probably somewhere around 380 lbs. Ratliff in Dallas is 302 while Ferguson is around 305. I would think that they would want their guys somewhere between 300-310, no?

You would think so but Cody just moves like he weighs 310. A guy that big shouldnt be that agile.

 

I dont think Marks or Cody would be at that spot. If Indy picks ahead of us, I could see them picking up Marks. Jacksonville could pick up Cody. Id be surprised to see them last that long. I think Hardy could be there, same thing with Curry and Im pretty sure Pettigrew is there but I believe that would be to high for him.

All that being said, as of right now, I would take Clint Sintim. Plays the SOLB in Virginia's 3-4 I believe and thats where I would plug him in and let him compete with Roth. Can rush the passer, defend the pass and run. Strong enough to set the edge I believe. If he didnt win the starting job, immediately would be an upgrade over Anderson. Parcells has history with Al Groh and would have great inside knowledge on the guy. I just think right now he makes the most sense. Hardy I like a lot as Porter's protege but he has had off field problems but not real extensive problems.

After Sintim, sign me up for Marks or Cody if they are there but I dont see it happening. Wait for a guy like Dorell Scott in the 3rd. Would be interested to know what some of the gurus on here think of Jeff Owens, DT from Georgia. I know he hurt his knee in september but I think he will be able to do workouts before the draft but probably not at the combine. Can he be a NT for us? I know Fergie would love to mentor another bulldog.

 

The 19th pick, as of right now? Clint Sintim, for all the same "connection" reasons we took Ted Ginn and looked seriously at Chris Long. He'd play the same position for us that he currently plays at UVA, meaning he could very likely be a Week 1 starter.

Sen'Derrick Marks would be a great pick, but he'll probably be off the board at #19. And like Buckeye, I'm off the corner bandwagon too: I think we'll get someone in free agency and maybe spend a second day draft pick on the position.

yea not on the corner bandwagon in the first round, maybe not in the 2nd. If Kevin Barnes is still there in the 3rd, I would be all for that one. Right now, Im thinking maybe a Joe Burnett or the guy Con mentioned, DeAngelo Willingham. I see us picking up a Bryant McFadden like Boom said and then a more moderate priced guy and then using a pick. Might be the same way with the S position. I wouldnt mind getting a Jermaine Phillips and then picking up a Rashad Johnson or David Burton.

 

As of today you have to start wondering about another OL. Carey could be a goner, I'm starting to think finally that Satele might be as well, and they're going to want insurance in case Donald Thomas' foot doesn't heal well.

I can fully get behind Clint Sintim. I can fully get behind Greg Hardy if his character checks out (big IF). I think B.J. Raji could end up in the mix. As could Demarcus Granger, or even Peria Jerry. Jasper Brinkley, Larry English, who knows?

I Feel our most glaring need on this team is another pass rush threat besides Porter. At best we need a guy who can replace Roth and play 3 downs or at worst a guy to replace Charlie Anderson on passing downs.

If we can't get a legit pass rusher then I say we go and take Mack to replace Satele or take another DE/DT prospect.

Overall I feel Sintim is the best bet to be available and to be who we're targetting.

Lets not forget that Parcells wanted Chris Long last year, not Jake.

 

Sintim, Hardy, or Marks are my picks for rd 1 ATM.

 

I still think defensive front 7 at this point. Don't forget, under Parcells and Ireland (with Jeff alone in 2007), Dallas drafted DeMarcus Ware in round 1 in 2005, Kevin Burnett in round 2 in 2005, Bobby Carpenter in round 1 in 2006 and Anthony Spencer in the first round of 2007.

I think if the left tackle juniors come out then you're going to be pushing top 20 picks in most years down into the forties and fifties. Depending on what happens with Carey, then RT could be an option for one of the 2nd round picks. But anyone who watched Marc Colombo dominate Jason Taylor and consistently pull out and lead Marion Barber down the field last night against the Redskins must know that if his knees check out, then there's a strong chance he's a Dolphin.

I think Sintim, Larry english, Spikes if he comes out, although I'm not as high on him as Chris, Jasper Brinkley, Grey Hardy, Tyson Jackson, Brandon Pettigrew, BJ Raji.......even Rashad Johnson, although much like Greg Hardy and Brandon Pettigrew, he has some of field issues.

 

You know, Hardy could be the most interesting player on Miami's board, IF he makes Miami's board. He's Julius Peppers all over again. He is absolutely ideal for what Miami is trying to do. He can and has lined up at both end spots and both OLB spots to great effect. He's an absolute force off the corner, he's quick, plays the run very well...he has it all. But he is deemed as something of a problem child. I know that Orgeron loved him and that he was used, even as a sophomore to show critically important recruits around Oxford for the weekend. But I also know that Orgeron suspended him, that Houston Nutt has had more than one heart to heart talk with him this season and he is very individual off the field. Some call him immature, some say he's maturing. But his this, coupled with his inconsistency is really going to gall Ireland and Parcells because he's likely to be their dream pick-up but he has issues with his game and his personality that are going to fly very much in the face of the way thet do business.

I could easily see him being Miami's pick.

I could also easily see him be taken off the board right from the start.

Word in Oxford is that he will declare and as a junior, Indianapolis will be the first time teams get to talk to him. Just how will he come across and how mature will he be? And will it be too late?

 

Percy Harvin. I was at the Dolphins game yesterday- the defense played great, but yes, it was the Raiders. The offense was average- nice plays by Ginn, Cobbs, Brown. But for the most part, the offense was a snooze.

But a note on Harvin- I always looked at him as a Ginn type: fast/thin/special speed. But the guy that I went to the Dolphin game with- UF grad/big Gator fan/very football knowledgeable/one of my best friends went to the Gator/Kentucky game. He saw Harvin up close in some apparent pre game ritual walk through the campus to the stadium. He thinks that Harvin is now a rock solid 210-220 and was extremely impressed by his physique after seeing him up close. He is not one to BS or err. My friend has photos of Tebow, I'll try to find a shot of Harvin.

When I ask my friend to compare Harvin to Ginn he laughs and shakes his head- no comparison- hands down Harvin. If Harvin is there at #19 I take him, say thank you Jesus, and don't look back. And wait salivating until Henne gets in there with his arm, eventually. Spurrier said he's a 200 yd/game guy if they would just give him the ball more. But he doesn't complain, just produces.

All these mocks have Harvin as a late 1st rd guy to early 2nd rd. guy. I seriously doubt that he makes it out of the top 10-15. I could never figure out why Fred Taylor was rated so low before his draft and then shot up somewhere I believe in the top 10 to Jacksonville. That was a head scratcher to me. Harvin will be this year's Fred Taylor-we would be lucky if he's available and foolish not to take him.

Right now, Clint Sintim so that we can begin to add the pieces that will make our defense more balanced in terms of pass rush. Chances are we will draft more than one LB during the draft.

Also I was mulling over how Ireland has said that he enjoys watching Alabama play yada yada........and I see everyone mention Cody, Rashad Johnson etc. I think this regime will set its sights on the C - Antoine Caldwell. Who IMO is the african american version of Kevin Mawae, just look the way he stands and moves and tell me he doesn't remind someone of Mawae. I just find it interesting that his name never gets brought up as a a reason why Ireland may watch Alabama play.

Isn't it funny how the two lynchpins of the O-line in our minds at the start of the season; Satele and Carey are being talked about being shown the door after this one? Funny how time, and a change in offensive philosophies changes everything.

 

I would like to see is get Cushing from USC. At 19 I dont know if he's there, but it would be nice.

 

I don't watch enough FSU to claim to have really done my homework, but Everette Brown played like a man possessed against Wake Forrest earlier this year. His first step was ridiculous.

Any one know more about him? If he comes out, I can't imagine us not taking a hard look.

I watched Colombo last night. He looked much better than when I watched him against Arizona, which he struggled all day. He looked impressive last night.

I like Tyson Jackson and Raji gets in the backfield often. Johnson impresses me with his athletic ability and always being around the ball. He's also a good special teamer which we need lol. I like Jasper Brinkley. He's a smart player but I think he may be too slow. English or Sintim for me. I wouldn't complain with Spikes either. He looked very good on Saturday.

He's got the quickness but he doesn't impress me in run support. I don't know if you caught the game on Saturday night against BC but they ran the same play about ten times his way and he couldn't stop it once. Once the LT of BC got his hands on him, he couldn't get off and looked done to me. He was getting manhandled often.

 

Everette Brown is my pick. Now that they've built up the offensive and defensive lines I think Parcells and Ireland are looking for the next Lawrence Taylor/DeMarcus Ware. Who is the most likely to be that guy?

Herzlich said he isn't declaring for the draft so we can rule him out and Barwin is a nice player but I don't see L.T. or Ware potential there. Hardy, Johnson, and Selvie might be better suited to a 4-3 defense. Of those three I think Selvie has the most potential for greatness. Orakpo could be the guy but he's likely to be off the board by the time we pick.

Sintim has potential. He padded his stats against Duke a little bit but he definitely has potential. If it's not Orakpo or Brown then Sintim is the guy.

Everette Brown is a force. Some guys in another thread criticized his play against Boston College this past Saturday but I didn't think Brown had a bad day. He caused a fumble that was returned for a touchdown. He forced the QB out of the pocket several times and recovered a fumble. He was a disruptive force.

If your star defensive player gets you 7 points on a bad day then sign me up. :up:

Is Everette Brown the next L.T. or Ware? Well, that's crazy talk. Nobody knows when or if another player like either of them is going to come along. The best you can do is draft a guy you think has the potential to do great things. Brown has that potential. So do Orakpo and Sintim but Brown would be my choice.

 

Brian Orakpo ISN'T a 3-4 OLB. He's lazy, doesn't go full speed all the time and he is stiff changing directions. If anyone is going to be the next Ware out of the group that you mention, then it has to be Greg Hardy.

 

Agreed. Orakpo has talent but as you said, way to lazy. Too much watching. Off-topic but how about Jay Ratliff's play last night? Two sacks. Him and Ware off the edge were dominant. You made a great point about Tyson Jackson possibly being brought in and converted to NT but you think they would spend a pick that high, considering the success they had in Dallas with Ratliff?

 

Greg Hardy versus Clint Sintim is shaping up to be Vernon Gholston versus Chris Long redux.

 

Brown was often double-teamed. Don't forget about that. He doesn't lose many one-one-one battles. Anthony Castonzo is a pretty good left tackle by the way.

The reason Brown isn't more involved in run support is because that's not his role in Florida State's defense. The linebackers are responsible for shooting the gaps and stopping the run. Brown's responsibility is putting pressure on the QB which he does extremely well.

You bring up a good point because if there's a concern regarding Everette Brown it would be whether or not he's capable of setting the edge in our defense like Roth does. We simply don't know if Brown can do it because he isn't asked to do it in the Seminoles defense.

That run play Boston College kept running was sort of an option. It wasn't a traditional option because the QB often ran up the middle. It almost reminded me of the Wildcat with the QB taking on Ronnie Brown's role. In fact, Boston College did run the Wildcat with their WR at one point. I would agree that Brown was not a factor in stopping that play. I wouldn't say he couldn't stop it once. He was often double-teamed and the linebackers should have been making those tackles not Brown.

However, I have seen him make many a tackle on a running back when they run his way.

 

Wow. Sounds like Ole Miss at LSU is a must-watch this Saturday. Greg Hardy, the pressure is on. We'll be watching. :pointlol:

Boomer, I think you are right about Orakpo being lazy. However, that is something that can be coached don't you think? For example, he would be a great fit for the Fins because our conditioning program and coaches would make him go 100% all the time. Now that would be scary.

 

Why? My only guess is his injury history.

 

I also think he's a one trick pony. He doesn't have a great array of moves and when a lineman gets into him, then he has trouble shedding. He has a strong bullrush powered by a good bubble. Honest to God, if Phil Loadholt didn't have such appalling balance, then no-one would be talking him up the way they are because for 95% of that Oklahoma game, big Phil had him in his pocket. I don't see a guy who's going to turn and run downfield and chase a back let alone run downfield with a tight end in coverage.

Ratliff played very well. Not sure what the thinking might be with Tyson and whether he would go inside to NT, but regardless, he's a name that bears close attention.

 

Greg's going to have to answer some pretty big questions that neither Chris or VG had to face.
