He's a $5 million backup. If Tanny gets hurt season in the drain anyway. Moore's mediocre anyway. He was awful against Buff last year

I could see teams like the Jaguars, Vikings, Redskins, Browns, and Titans making a deal for him. There's no reason to cut Moore when you can trade him. The reason he's a $5 million backup is because they are very confident in his abilities. So much so that Philbin was rumored to (if true he clearly shouldn't be a HC) be very willing to pull the plug on Tannehill in favor of Moore. We'd save the same amount of cap space if we traded him, but I don't think Miami is all that concerned about cap space. If they were, they could have cut him a while ago especially considering Wallace's cap hit shot up ~$9 million for this season.

Moore isnt a franchise qb nor will he be. BUT there is a market for him and he can win games. Brady Quinn has done zilch. why cut Moore? trade him, there is a market.

Tannehill was awful in the 2nd Buffalo game and in the final game against the Jets. So does that mean he is merely mediocre and should be cut too?

Moore may only be a backup QB, but he is far better than Quinn or any other QB the Dolphins might pick up at this time. Yet I have no problem with them cutting Moore, because I think this is going to be another mediocre season coming up, even with Tannehill at QB.

If I thought this was a playoff team, I would certainly feel better having Moore as the backup than Quinn, Delvin, or any other QB now on the roster. I just have a hard time justifying paying a backup $5 million on a team that will likely finish the season 7-9 or worse.

I am sure one of the better teams in the NFL would quickly sign Moore as their backup if he is released by the Dolphins.

Sounds like they want moore to rest some more. Adding an outsider to see if hes got anything left, and than see if it's worth keeping him over the 5 million dollar backup man.. Hey Philbin I can toss the rock still and it will only cost you 150k for the year and a lap dance from EVERY cheerleader on the squad.

 

Here's where I am on this.

I don't think anyone thinks Quinn is better than Moore. I think this is pure finances.

We're all thinking if Tannehill goes down long-term, then we suck and will get the first pick anywho.
What if Tannehill just gets hurt in game like he did vs the Jets in 2012? Or if he needs to miss a game or 2?
If we have Quinn, those games are lost. With Moore, he can at least carry us for a couple of games.

His game play was "throw it into triple coverage to Brandon Marshall" and hope that it went well. He got amazingly lucky, and is not worth what we're paying him, IMO.

I was really, really wishing that we'd drafted Quinn in 2007. Who knows what may have been had he been here back then. Happy to have him on board as our #3, and hell, maybe he lights it up the rest of August and takes Moore's job. Either way, if either one of them is on the field for more than a few plays this coming season, we're in trouble.

 

I'm pretty sure Quinn isn't looking at it that way, Mr Negative. If he performs well he's at the very least serving notice to other teams that might be looking for a QB. The TV gig will be there for him for the next 20+ years, his chances to play QB for an NFL are just about done, it's a pretty easy decision.

 

They want a vet who can run the offense so that the 2nd and 3rd string guys can get some meaningful reps. Also it gives Quinn a chance to showcase himself to earn a job, be it in Miami (unlikely) or somewhere else.
