He's not showing anything here against the big boys. Looks like Bulldogs speed is to much for him. Big concerns for me if he would be any good in the NFL

I think it'd be hard to scout Brennan out there due to the significant difference in talent level between both teams.

Brennan is very overrated!! I've said this numerous times before about him. He plays in the WAC conference...no real threats from opponents. Finally, Hawaii plays a real team and they are getting spanked so far in the first half of the Sugar Bowl. Chad Henne showed why he will be drafted pretty early in the draft.

They were giving him that last pass. The half was over. He doesn't have time to throw. No QB can look good getting rushed like that. That's what Beck faced most of the time he was in there. One more observation is that Brennan looks smallish.

 

He is the same size in hight as Beck there both 6'2

 

He isn't getting any time to throw, those ends for Georgia are flying around the edge and he has a cannon for an arm. He can put the ball in tight spaces and if you saw the pass he threw down the sideline in the 1st quarter he will show you that big arm.

Name a run and shoot quarterback that has succeeded out of college?

We've seen Colt Brennan before, his name was Timmy Chang, David Klinger, Andre Ware, Kliff Kingsbury, Tim Couch, all guys who played in variations of the run and shoot in college. Their ability doesn't translate to the next level. If you were evaluating Brennan only on his measurables, and his skill set, he wouldn't rate highly as a prospect. Fans have a tendency to praise brand names, while completely ignoring their suitability to play at the next level. See Reggie Bush as a non-quarterback example of this phenomenon. Essentially a product of his supporting cast, and the system, and not a superior player. Brennan is no different.

to say Brennan is overrated after this game is kind of unfair. His OL is getting manhandled. He will be an NFL player, his WRs will be in the NFL, the rest? There is a reason they all went to Hawaii.

History says it will be the exact opposite. Hawaii does not produce skill position players of any merit, but they do produce some decent linemen. Have Ashley Lelie and Timmy Chang been forgotten so quickly?

I'm watching Brennan sidearm passes as I type this. He has no NFL potential.

Did anyone that is bashing Colt Brennan actually watch the football game? The guy had ZERO time...NONE. "He has no feel for pressure"? How can you "feel pressure" when you can't even finish your drop before a guy is breathing down your neck?

 

Thank you i think the guy is one of the best QBs in this years draft his Draft Value may drop because of this game but i think he is a really good QB

 

he doesnt have any suporting cast he doesnt have a Big WR to go aginst the WAC Conference so all his WRs are evenly matched with the CBs and they dont really have a running game

 

YEAH but unfortunately people tend to overlook how long a QB has to throw it, or if the receivers have the drops, or other issues. I also think Colt has been a little hurt, but few people get to see Hawaii's games because they are in bed by the time the games kick off in Hawaii. I have watched him play the last couple years, and have seen him play in a few WAC games in person. I think the only issue he has is his sidearm delivery, but he has a quick and accurate release.

Not saying we should or should not draft him, just don't trash the guy simply because you don't think we should take him.

You cant really evaluate him based on the poor play of his O-line. Imagine if he was on the other side playing for Georgia? Probably be a concensus first rounder in my opinion.

 

From watching some of the highlights on Brennan...alot of his passes are "high" where the receiver are making leaping catches. This was even evident in the game against UGA. Just not impressed with this guy. Majority of his passes are short dump offs or screens where the receivers are gaining yards after the catch.

 

I was never high on Brennan.

 

The flaw of the run and shoot and variations of it, is that there will always be pressure on the QB. That is why it never fully took over. The QB takes a pounding in it. The Patriots run the most successful variation of spread and its because Brady is getting rid of the ball. A great comparison would be the Oilers of the Warren Moon era. He was hit often in that system. To expect a QB to have great protection in that scheme is simply unrealistic therefore the QB should have a great feel for the pressure because he's going to be getting pressured alot. Brennan doesnt have it because he probably got used to the soft defenses in his own conference. I'll tell you one thing, the kid who replaced him looked just as good if not better which is going to have all the GMs and scouts wondering how much is Brennan and how much is system. Since that was the main knock on him before I expect him now to drop out of the projected 2nd round and into the 3rd. I think most scouts will be more convinced that he is simply a product of that system

I never ever saw Chang being considered as an NFL passer.

With that said, I would take Davone Bess on my team any day, and I don't think Grice-Mullins is anything to sneeze at either.

Chang was signed by the Eagles. Chang put up the same gaudy statistics as Brennan. Just like Kingsbury did at Texas Tech. Chang owned a few NCAA records in fact, and he simply did not possess the physical tools, or skill sets to succeed at the next level, and neither does Brennan. Have you looked at his sidearm delivery? He's not that big. He's listed as 6'2, but that is almost certainly overstating his height, as is traditional in college press guides. What about Colt Brennan would have gotten him noticed if not for the video game like stats he puts up? Don't tell me he's accurate either. Every run and shoot quarterback is accurate. Tim Couch was a career 71% passer. Ware and Klingler has eye-popping accuracy. If Couch, who did possess the sort of measurables that the NFL desires, who was a solid character guy (Brennan is a convicted felon), who had all of his college success in the SEC could never seem to learn the pro system well enough to even function as a backup, Brennan comes with serious question marks.

And just because Chang signed with the Eagles doesn't mean most thought he was NFL caliber. Was he drafted? Was he ever considered a first round pick even?

And of course Brennan has serious question marks, which is why everyone is saying wait until Mobile. But you've already written the guy off. And yes I wil say Brennan is accurate, he also has a very quick delivery, though perhaps an unothodox one. So does Phillip Rivers though, and so did Bernie Kosar, neither of whom have as quick a delivery as Brennan.

He takes almost every snap out of the shotgun. Brennan hasn't played the level of competition Rivers did. And don't even mention Bernie Kosar and Colt Brennan in the same paragraph. Kosar was 6'5! He played dominant football in a classic pro-style offense at Miami. He beat great teams at Miami! Who has Brennan played? Georgia? We saw how that went. So he's accurate? So was Kliff Kingsbury, B.J. Symons, Timmy Chang, and Tim Couch. Accuracy is a product of spread systems run against talent-poor defenses. So I ask you again, what in Brennan's game merits attention?

As for Hawaii's skill position players, they will be non-entities in the NFL. June Jones, a former NFL head coach, has been the guy at Hawaii for 9-years, where are all the skill players he's sent to the NFL? Ashley Lelie had prototype tools, but didn't have the skill sets to succeed in the NFL because the system doesn't prepare them for the NFL. They're starting from scratch when they step onto an NFL practice field. Why should anyone be impressed by Hawaii's skill players?

Were no lessons learned from the fun n' gun days at Florida? Year after year, NFL teams would spend draft picks on Florida offensive players--linemen, wide receivers, quarterbacks, tight ends, and they never amounted to anything. The system dictated their success. The system dictates Brennan's success. The run and shoot and it's bastard offspring have sent nothing to the NFL but dozens of draft busts. But Brennan is different? How? Why?
