I think it's certainly a worthwhile stone to be turning over, and he's potentially an upgrade over Matt Moore. It's weird to see how everything went off of the rails after 2010.

"Dolphins sign Josh Freeman
Posted by Michael David Smith on April 2, 2015, 6:33 PM EDT

Josh Freeman, the quarterback who rapidly went from one of the most promising young players in the NFL to a major disappointment, is getting another shot.
The Dolphins have agreed to a one-year contract with Freeman, according to Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report.
Freeman was the Buccaneers’ first-round draft pick in 2009, and quickly made the Bucs’ decision to draft him look brilliant. In 2010, Freeman threw 25 touchdown passes and just six interceptions.
But his play declined after that, there was talk that he didn’t get along with new coach Greg Schiano and his staff, and the Bucs traded Freeman to the Vikings during the 2013 season. Freeman quickly became the starter in Minnesota, but he was a disaster and was benched after his first game.
Last year Freeman was out of the NFL after the Giants cut him following a brief period on their offseason roster. Now the Dolphins will give him another chance to show he belongs. This may be his last chance."

Didn't we just resign Moore? So I guess it's a battle for QB2
-
I didn't even know he was in for a visit.
-
He has the tools to be a nfl qb, question always work ethic and attitude.
To me, a good roll of the dice, if he beats out MMoore we probably can trade MMoore
Hmm, wonder if he was Hickey's "guy" in Tampa?dolphin25, Itsdahumidity and Unlucky 13 like this. -

Freeman's season in 2010 was better than any season Tannehill's had to date. Just about everything else he's done has been worse than anything Tannehill's done to date.
-
My first reaction was "Whaaaaaattt???"
But it makes sense as a no guarantee chance to compete with Moore as QB2. I'm in favor. -
I guess it's good to have competition for the backup spot, but I frankly don't expect much from him.
-
Camp arm .We always have one.And he gets a chance to showcase his skills to other teams .There are always injuries and he is a veteran.

I can't believe it's been six years since he was drafted. Doesn't seem that long. It is strange how far he's fallen since then, but who knows? Maybe a change of scenery on a new team could help him. Tampa isn't exactly the best place to get your career going in a positive direction. Who knows?

He has an issue...in his respiratory area.
He tends to breathe in stuff he shouldn't.
..and let's just say the cocaine Cowboys made sure it was plentiful in Miami...
It's coke..he's had a coke problem.SICK likes this. -
Dolphins must believe he's off drugs to do this.
Honestly tho it's not a bad thing as someone pointed out in Club it gives the receiver depth chart a chance during camp and preseason to actually put something on tape, since Freeman can actually get the ball to them.
I do wonder what this means for their interest in Connor Halliday tho.gunn34 likes this. -
Gotta be trading Matt Moore...the classic safety net move we saw with Cameron.
-
So even if Freeman were come in and beat out Moore for the backup QB position, which I seriously doubt, I really don't see any NFL team giving up a draft pick for Moore. In fact if a very below average Freeman were to beat out Moore, that would lessen the value of Moore IMO.gunn34 likes this. -

Who will be gone? Tannehill? -

Maybe Freeman wins the job (eventually), Tannehill is let go, signs with the Patriots and continues their streak with them...some nightmares DO come true. -
It could be he will compete for the third QB spot as well. It doesn't mean he is in direct competition with Moore.
-
Watch out Tanny.......
-
You have GOT to be kidding me. Are we really going to have the Freeman Brigade crowing about him starting now?
Josh Freeman is hot garbage. -
-
From the responses in this thread from a couple posters, I'd expect the first "bad" game Tannehill has, there will be cries to start Freeman. Or, when Freeman looks like the greatest ever in preseason playing third string scrubs...
-
It's really crazy. Dude had one year. Then flopped in Minnesota, where he was competing against who, Tavaris Jackson? Then he was cut by the Giants, and was out of the league last year. Why people would think that he's anything more than hot garbage at this point is beyond me.
-
anyone remember our preseason last year ? seth lobato ? problem fixed, another reliable arm for preseason games, at least thats what you could expect from him against 3rd stringers with his resume......best case scenario he beats out moore for the backup job, which would save some money, imo.....i doubt we keep 3 QB's

You won't see me clamor for him to start, I'm just saying you never know. If his head is on straight...
As of this year RT is the guy. He's not elite, which I think is the ONLY situation where it's unfathomable to think a replacement would be possible. I'm a big fan of his, but players come and go.
I seriously doubt he can beat out RT, just not ruling anything out.
