Stephen Ross needs to get his head out if his *** and fire Chris Grier already, or sell the team. Deshaun Watson is not going to save this team.

 

Talent overrides morals.

 

Not that I want him but by making a trade you would force the NFLs hand on a suspension.

 

This isn't new. Florio is repeating something said weeks if not months ago.

It's unverifiable and potentially irrelevant depending on how direct Ross gets.

What would concern me most is having an owner who tells his GM and coach what to do and who to pick. It means that he doesn't trust them and he values either his own opinion or the opinion of others and/or the media than his own professional front office.

It's one thing to share one's doubts and desires, another to undermine your leadership staff. I hope he isn't doing the latter.

 

Not this year anyway.But let's be real this team is going nowhere with Tua.Small injury prone Qb with average talent playing with a bad offensive line.He is to slow for his size to survive.That hit he took I saw tannehill get up numerous times.Kylie Murray is smaller but has elite talent.
I will take Satan himself to play Qb if he gives us a real chance at SB.We haven't seen a playoff win in 20 years.How many other teams can say that?

 

The thing I feel Florio is saying is it may be cheaper now than next year.

 

To be fair, I don't trust them, either. They've given me little reason to trust them wrt personnel.

 

Personally, I'd say to go ahead and sign Watson if it's possible. Tua will be out for a month give or take, and Watson puts us in "win now" mode. And maybe he's not here next year- but you get clauses in there that protects your picks for the fallout from the league and authorities.

 

That is assuming Texans have interest in serious pick protections. A team that is asking for 3 or 4 first round picks for a guy who might not see the field for a couple years might not.

But entering win now mode for a guy who might not play is a questionable plan at best

 

We heard this in the off-season. We heard this preseason. We heard this three days before Week 1. I'm sure we will hear it for the rest of the season.

Enough already.

 

Here's my slant. Tua is down for a bit of time, which places this entire year "on hold" for the moment in terms of development. We know the D is good, we know we have solid receivers (minus last week) and most of the pieces are there for a championship run. We won't keep this secondary in tact long-term, so why not make a serious run now with a top QB?

To me it just makes sense IF Ross is really pushing for Watson.

 

Its a pretty big stretch to think Watson coming in midseason is going to win a title and that is assuming the NFL would let him play.

That is why its hard to get excited. If they get Watson when are they making a serious run at a title?

 

Yeah...At this point, why the hell not? It's a huge risk for sure. We're going to have to get some clarity on his entire situation though before anything were to happen. Suspension? If so, potentially how long? Jail time? What exactly are we looking at?

 

At his age, Ross needs to see immediate results. I could see him pushing for Watson. Odds are good Grier will waste the picks anyway, so I can see the temptation of making the trade. High risk, high reward.

 

Yeah but the question is, can Watson fix his off the field issues. And will it effect him. Really kind of lost respect over on him over it.

LOL, I completely get what you're saying, but it's really the big picture. We're paying two stud CB's and the rest of our secondary is pretty good as well. Once we take the lead and other team has to pass- that's where we won 10 games last year because it plays to our strengths. Three and out after three and out, while playing from behind, completely changes that formula. You don't play cover zero when you're down 21.

Last week, it was a complete failure by so many different position groups...I highly doubt we see that level of dysfunction again this year. If receivers had just caught the ball, we likely lost 35-21 and we're not talking about all this doom and gloom.

 

The defense kept them in the game in the first half and shut down Allen. If the offense didn't stumble, fumble and drop everything on offense they could have made it a game.

It's hard to sustain that against a great offense for a full game when your offense isn't doing squat.

 

Because even the most elite of defenses can do so much for so long when the offense keeps putting up nothing.

 

I mean, if a defense is good, and forces three and outs, then they aren't on the field for a long time.

 

They are when the offense instantly turns it over or goes 3 and out.

 

He won't play this year but yea I'm down for trading for him now before the price goes up next year.
Screw the draft picks these guys have proven they can't draft anyway.

 

^This right here....Give them the picks they want. Flores has shown a knack for finding diamond in the rough type of players during his time here. With Watson on this team, we'd never be out of a game or contention.

 

He was 4-12 last year and sacked 50 times.

 

The picks they want is three first round picks… then again it is Chris Grier… he has swung and missed on many first round picks…

Laremy Tunsil got him so many picks, for nothing… Minkah wanted out of here after one season.. he hit on this one but wasnt able to keep his player.

Wilkins has been his only hit so far…. And hes slightly above average.. hes not a super talent..

Jaylen looks like he might be a player.. and i was not a fan of drafting Phillips …

with his history of first round picks, may as well unload it for an established star then..

 

Or..... And hear me out here..... They could have drafted Herbert, like any competent front office would have done. What in the world made them think tua was the answer? What a waste of a pick. If they do get Watson, tua would be worthless in a trade.

 

Why is it people can't criticize not taking Herbert without pretending every other team would have taken Herbert?

If it was so obvious then why didn't anyone trade for Herbert? Why did the Chargers roll the dice knowing they would have been stuck with Tua?

 

Roll the dice? Chris Grier’s infatuation with Tua was known before Tua’s junior season began… the chargers and the whole dang world knew who the dolphins were aiming for..

 

And yet somehow many thought they would take Herbert. So much for the whole world.

The Chargers GM said it himself they didn't believe any of the stories of Miami taking an OL and they were comfortable with whatever QB was there. They knew Tua was a possibility.

 

And Herbert just lead the Chargers to a win over the Chiefs in Arrowhead. Four TD’s, 125 passer rating and 0 interceptions. You can’t cry over spilled milk but god that one really burns.

 

And our QB is...... Wait for it....... hurt AGAIN

 

And meanwhile, Ja’Marr Chase has 4 TD’s and at this point would be OROY. I don’t blame them for trading back but trading up for a small deep threat when your OL is this garbage is just stupid. I really want to see Grier walked out of his office soon.

 

Wonder if the Steelers would be up for a trade - Tua for a first (and maybe change?) - Ben looks like absolute trash, washed. Maybe a three way between us, Pitt and Houston?

Tua and Tunsil to Pitt, Watson to Miami and 2 first rounders each from Pitt/Miami to Houston, probably a few deuces/treys as well.

Just spitballing and having some "fun" speculating. We have history with both teams, Tua would be with both Minkah and Najee.

Biggest hangup is clearly Watson's legal issues. I just don't see how a deal can get done without some clarity.

 

If we miss the playoffs and don't see significant improvement from some of his big picks, then that should absolutely be at the top of the list. I'm not off the Flores train, but Grier's picks - especially early - have been woefully underperforming. His choices in building a team have been suspect and aren't panning out. He chose to rely on unproven athleticism over proven performance both in drafting players and in eschewing vets over youth and it just hasn't worked.

 

Point taken, but he was literally the only one on that team that you couldn't blame that season on. The whole environment was toxic.

 

Tua sucks but let's trade him to a team for a first round pick and multiple other picks. Can't make it up.

 

That's why it's just speculation dude, chill. He's a second year QB, a desperate team might be willing to try it. Steelers are win now and Ben isn't getting it done. Tua represents a potential upgrade on a low salary - if they feel they can utilize him better than we can, they can consider a first rounder a valid price.

The biggest issue I'd see whether they would just straight for Watson themselves, though he would need to agree to it via the no trade.
