Have to stay with the current core for at least one more year. This team clearly showed it is good enough to beat most teams in the NFL, but it's woefully deficient in beating the best. Still, McD got us to the playoffs twice in a row. Can't ignore that. We also have lots of key positions on the team "filled" so to say.

So you give McD another year to prove he can win in the playoffs, and it's upon him to figure out how to fix this. That's the minimum threshold to cross or you start seriously thinking about changing something. Unlike previous cycles though, I don't think you need a complete rebuild no matter what happens. Too many good players on this team for that.

 

Youre gonna give tua a contract. A better option isnt feasible. Youre gonna give yourself outs in the contract like the giants did with jones. Youre gonna extend mcdaniel and line it up with the tua contract.


Youre gonna cut ogbah and X. Youre gonna draft a seam mismatch TE, OL and ****ing LB depth. Thats it. Not a lot of options.

 

You can't. I would trade Tua for whatever you can get, and draft a high ceiling high bust type in the draft (because that's the only type you can reach for). If you want to still compete, repeat Tua type season, then get Jimmy G.

Jimmy G? No way dude is worse than Tua. Kirk Cousins is a great QB and would be good on a two year deal but I doubt we can afford him.

We really need to get Grier gone as the GM. He hasn't hit on much in free agency/trades and the draft record isn't much better.

The way the team was all in this year doesn't leave any room to get better next year unless they absolutely hit on the 1st and 2nd round picks like the Lions did. I see a big regression next year and McDaniel and Grier gone a season too late. Hopefully Tua is gone this off season.

There's no upgrade at QB. There's nothing easy there. You just have to suck the shi* and move on. If you want another Tua type season, then make a move for Jimmy G. I want more.

 

I'd love Cousins actually, but I don't see him aging well. He gets murdered every year. Highest QB hit rate in the league consistently. But he's another type you could get, and the offense wouldn't skip a beat with losing Tua.

 

I wouldn't sign him longer than 2 years as stated above.

Why is Kirk better than Tua? He's 35 and coming off an Achilles. 1-4 playoff record. Got beat by the Giants last year. And for everyone crying about Tyreek making Tua, I suggest looking at who Kirk is throwing to.

Operating from a frame of reality, Tua is the QB next year and as mentioned, signed to an extension.

Part of getting better will be active - signing and drafting. Need to shore up the disaster that our Edge turned into. Im not counting on either Chubb or especially Phillips. AVG probably is a priority and then adding veteran depth. Adding veteran depth to CB. Goodbye Ogbah and X.

Offensively, draft a WR. It's a priority. Cannot get what we got out of 3 on down. Cant happen in this offense. Solidify OL. Maybe a TE.

The other part is annoying because it's passive. But ... It's letting young an/or new people grow. McDaniel is a second year coach and did a lot of young second year coach nonsense. Clean it up. Tua is still young, and yes finishing year 4. But, those Flores years were more negative than positive. Fangio ... The warning label with him was that his system takes a year to get installed and that he hates rookies. So we hope Smith takes an offseason jump in year two and that the defense starts to really take hold. Unless we go a new direction. I wouldn't hate either option.

Lastly, fire Crossman and get some new voices in special teams.

Look, the ending this year was an unmitigated disaster, but for 3/4 of the season we were balling. It's not unreasonable to think if our coaching learns and develops and cleans up that the players won't do so as well. Maybe not, but Im more willing to try that than some nonsense about late round rookies or mediocre vets. There is no Peyton or Brady walking through the door. There are no clear upgrades, and to paraphrase Lions GM Brad Holmes, it is MUCH easier to get worse than better.

We have a right to be angry, ask questions and demand answers. But change for the sake of change isn't moving us forward.

 

Na. He had a 112.9 rating in 2022 playoffs. 80% completion. 273 yards. 2 TDs. 0 INTS. He wasn't the problem. That's not crumbling.

 

If you can get him for that, AND draft a QB. I'm down. I like Cousins a lot. Underrated IMO.

I'm not going to guess what Cousins is going to be coming off his injury and at his age, but 2023 Cousins was probably better than 70% of QBs in the league.

He also consistently stays on the field, this year broke his streak of 15+ games started for 8 straight seasons.

I'm not saying he's going to lead you to a Superbowl. I'm saying, if you want to move on from Tua, draft a QB, and want to still compete, go get Cousins. Unless you have a better idea?

 

Kirk Cousins is definitely a better QB than Tua at this point and it is really obvious.

 

I dont know, I look at this roster and see more problems than solutions. If you want to take this current group and win now, Kirk Cousins isn't the option. As you said he's likely not winning you a SB any time soon. So, what's the point? So you either need to continue to have faith in Tua... And if I'm McDaniel I'm not sure I want to stake my career on it at this point with Griers love for reclamation projects. So... I really don't know. But what I do see here is the failure of Stephen Ross to yet again make a good decision on how to move this football team forward. You saddled what seems to be a good coach in McDaniel with a flawed QB, and a poor personnel man in Grier. Like it or not they're tied together at this point. So McDaniel will fall on the sword of Tua ultimately it seems. To me... that's a sad state of affairs. I dont want to be competitive. I want to win and be in contention for super bowls. Even if you take away the brutal stretch of injuries with this team, i still highly doubt were at that point when it comes to talent.

Ermmm. Where did I say it doesn't matter? I think it's important to note Tua's great passer rating occurred in a season where he faced the least winning teams in the sport. Against winning teams, his numbers are poor throughout his career. If you have a stat that shows similar with Cousins, please show it.

 

We limped to the playoffs.. surprisingly this season, Tua actually played all the games.. but when you start missing out on Chubb, Xavien, Phillips, AVG on your defense alone.. thats massive

when guys like waddle, mostert and tyreek hill start having late season injuries.. and are limited in practice.. thats massive..

And the team doesnt have a conditioning issue.. i will say Waddle is the only one i would label as injury prone.

We got to be healthier, somehow.

now we head to an offseason where we are going to have phillips and chubb missing games or perhaps the 2024 season completely.. so we have to figure that out..

tua is getting the tag.. i dont think theyre ready to commit long term money on him yet but as of right now, with tyreek and waddle and devon mostert as our core we are in win now mode.. and there isnt a qb available through trade that will make it better and keep us in that mode..tua is the best option we got.. im not thrilled about it but no one can name me someone available that is better..

You draft better. Our drafts have provided little to no help. Somehow stay healthy while developing an identity (offensively and defensively). Identity partly comes from player production but if you're constantly needing to use 2nd-3rd string it's difficult to maintain.

Given the injuries to Chubb and Phillips we're going to need pass rushers because they may not be ready in 2024. Linebackers who can hit and cover. OL, a center and guard, luckily guards can be found in the middle rounds or relatively cheaply in free agency.

Extend McDaniel and create some organizational stability.

 

Don‘t know if we can quick fix it, we definitely need to draft better. We had a huge chance when we did the Tunsil trade, but the way things look we fumbled that badly. Not expecting improvement next season, rather the opposite.

I think the problem with Tua is how much he's going to cost. To continue with Tua, he's got to get a new contract, it you tag him and pay him high year to year. So like, if you're moving on from him, you've got to just do it. I honestly don't think Tua would garner much in trade right now. We are not in a good situation.

 

This roster is built to win now. Ideally, you'd do what the Rams did when they traded Goff for Stafford. Unfortunately there's not a Stafford level QB available via trade this offseason.

My expectation is Tua is extended and they try to improve the ancillary pieces on the roster.

Grier is a Ross toadie so he's not going anywhere until Ross dies.

X has a $25M cap hit next year. He's not worth a quarter of that given that he's injured all the time and gets cooked when he plays. His career has been on a downward trajectory for a few years now.

Things are pretty bleak. I'm not sure this roster is fixable. Even if it was I have no faith in Grier fixing it.

 

Recency bias is definitely clouding some of the perspective here. We went 11-6, that's not a bad team. That's not a hopeless team. That's not a team with no future.

A regression is certainly possible, but it's definitely not impossible to see improvement on multiple fronts here. Draft will be huge - we have to come away with multiple starters. Watch the Detroit and Rams game today and you see two teams that had A+ drafts with multiple rookies starting or contributing big. We have to find some cheaper vet talent - guys with some edge who can come in and play immediately and help bring some hunger.

It's much easier to say than do of course, but it's not impossible. And again, the big things are that we need to see improvement from the coaching staff in pretty much all phases. Special teams needs a new voice. Fangio's scheme is widely considered elite but one that takes time and vets to implement, and usually ascends in year 2 vs immediately. Our secondary staff will get revamped - too many blown coverages and bad play from the unit that should have been a strength. Offensively, Frank Smith probably doesn't get a HC job after our swoon, so he and McDaniel need to figure out what the later season issues are and how to keep progressing the offense. We need a heavy focus and look at the run game - it was too good to have been so ineffective.

 

There's no immediate fix, but this team isn't going anywhere until it finds a Quarterback with the talent and moxy to win on any given Sunday. I think Tua gets one more year here, but we absolutely need to draft one of the top 8 quarterbacks in this upcoming draft.
In fact, we need to keep drafting quarterbacks until we find the right one. Without a franchise quarterback, this team will go nowhere. No retreads, no Kirk Cousins, you have to draft one. Caleb Williams is the top pick this year. I would throw everything I could at Chicago for the top pick OR you look at the later round guys like Sanders from Colorado.

 

How would I fix it?
I'd get rid of Tua. I'd sell the farm to get someone better, however I had to do it. Tua is a good QB but he's not good enough to take us to a championship and he never will be.
That's not what they'll do, though.
They'll do the wrong thing because that's their MO.
